Chelsea Clinton’s $2 Million Wedding – Extravagant or Expected? Plus Other Good Reads

Chelsea Clinton Wedding Pictures
I promise to spend as much as Chelsea wants!

I remember getting married many years ago and was stunned by how much one night of dinner, drinks and dancing with 100 of your closest friends and family could cost. Fortunately my parents helped with paying for the wedding, and even thought it was a relatively modest affair it would still cover many a college education. However my wedding costs would be chump change compared to those being reported for Chelsea Clinton’s upcoming nuptials. I realize off course she is the daughter of arguably the most powerful and influential couple in the world, but still $2 million for a small wedding by celebrity standards is pretty astounding. Here’s how the costs breakdown according to ABC news:

Catering: $750,000
Flowers: $250,000
Music: $40,000
Wedding Dress: $15,000
Photography: $35,000
Video: $25,000
Lighting: $75,000 to $100,000
Hair and Makeup: $20,000
Invitations: $40,000 to $50,000
Party Planner: $175,000
Rehearsal Dinner: $250,000
Security: $30,000  (probably much higher!)
Miscellaneous: $50,000 (valet parking, wedding cake, welcome gifts, favors and anything else that’s been forgotten)

Personally, I think security will be much higher given the high profile nature of the wedding (especially if the President makes a surprise appearance) and the need to keep all the paparazzi at bay. Also, travel costs and the like need to be factored in and I think at the end of the day the wedding will cost nearer the $3 million range. Now that’s  a nice stimulus for the wedding industry and celebrity gossip magazines!

  1. Gross. That is the only thing I can say. In this struggling economy…to stage what is being called a “royal” wedding. White trash Clintons.

  2. This shows the unrealistic life led by our “leaders” and their families.

Why is it seemingly impossible to elect a President who is not already filthy rich? Why does one have to be incredibly wealthy to lead our country?

  3. I know the rich are different from the rest of us, but $2 million is too much pressure to put on a marriage, surely?

If I ever get married (extremely long shot – and extremely long story! ;) ) it’d be in a bar in Ibiza near the sea and windmills and olive groves, where wine is cheap and the waves are inviting, and any money leftover will go on buying a round of drinks for the locals, who’ll all be welcome to join in.

    • I like your marriage setting. I had the traditional/standard marriage setup, but your’s looks like way more fun! As one commenter said, at least it is their money (and not a bailout). $2 million = Former President Clinton giving about 4 speeches.
