I think if you want to find meaning, you should look outside of work for it. Seriously though, I think that some of us have too grandiose ideas of ourselves and I detect some narcissism in the question.  If you turn the question to "Am I helping others with my work?", then most of us can ( I hope ) answer in the affirmative. Physicians and other health care workers also face this.
