slight problem. Locking gas caps only slows down the thief a little.

They can also cut your fuel line as well as drill the tank itself.

All the costs associated with gas thefts may not be covered by insurance since the amounts may be below the auto deductible

Wow. The locking gas cap is only a deterrent to would be gas burglars. Sounds like you have a much more serious criminal problem that definetly needs more serious solutions. The one aspect of your problem is that the gas tank replacement will be covered by insurance, whereas the fuel will not. Still, you are right, the cost and headache of replacing a gas tank is much more.

We are coosing NOT to get lockable caps, as the thieves are now drilling through the gas tank. Replacing a tank of gas is cheaper than replacing a gas tank AND a tank of gas. (At least this is what's happening in my area).
