Investable assets of 1 million dollars would represent only a fraction of the value of a typical public employee pensions in the USA when viewed as an annuity. In that case - and these are guaranteed real world returns with annual COLAs - there are literally tens of millions of High Net Worth Individuals in the USA. A priveleged class of multi-millionaires, many who never made it past high school - all being supported by the US taxpayer.
