Another $500 Child Stimulus Check For Dependents – Eligibility and IRS Payment Fixes

[August 2020 update] This IRS has fixed certain stimulus payment issues (which were due to a programming errors) for non-filer groups, many of whom are yet to receive their first $500 dependent stimulus credit. The resolved $500 dependent stimulus (economic impact) payments were being seen by several eligible recipients from early August for each qualifying child.

Further the IRS has announced it will reopen the registration period – starting Aug. 15 through Sept. 30 – for eligible non-filing federal beneficiaries (e.g. SSDI, Retirees and SSI recipients) who were eligible for the $500 per child payments but had not filed or needed to update payment details to get their payment. Those who file (via the IRS Non-filer tool) and are deemed eligible should start seeing their payments by Mid-October.

For those Social Security, SSI, Department of Veterans Affairs and Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries who have already used the Non-Filers tool to provide information on children, no further action is needed. The IRS will automatically make a payment in October.

The above is great news for those who were in limbo about their payment and hopefully addresses many of the comments below.

2020 Tax Return Claimants (paid in 2021)

Any beneficiary who misses the Sept. 30 deadline will need to wait until next year and claim it as a credit on their 2020 federal income tax return. If you are not sure of your payment, you can check the status on the Get My Payment tool on IRS.gov.

Update and news on another Dependent Stimulus Payment in 2020

With a second stimulus check now almost a certainty it is also likely that Congress will soon pass another $500 dependent stimulus check to be paid in August 2020. Democrats had proposed that the payment be increased to $1000 but limited to 3 dependents, however it looks like the $500 amount will stay consistent given the increased number of dependents that will be eligible for this payment.

Democrat and Republican proposals, HEROS and HEALS acts respectively, also addressed the main issue with the original dependent stimulus (as discussed below) where it was limited to dependents under the age of 17. This has now been expanded under both parties’ proposals (which means it will be in the final bill) so that dependents under the age of 24 in high school or college will also be getting this dependent stimulus check. This will expand eligibility to another three million potential dependents.

At this stage it is likely that the $500 stimulus will be paid along with a second stimulus check towards the end of August 2020 in the same manner it was paid the first time around.

Stay tuned for additional updates once formal details are released.

$500 Child Dependent Stimulus Check

Updated in May with answers at the end of this article. Several readers have asked questions around the additional $500 child dependent stimulus payment approved under the CARES stimulus bill. This is in addition to the $1200 individual and $2400 couple stimulus checks being paid to qualifying Americans. To get the supplementary child stimulus check payment you must have filed a recent (2018 or 2019) tax return, claimed the child as dependent AND the child must be younger than 17-years-old. They must also be related to you by blood, marriage, or adoption. There is no limit to the number of dependents who can qualify for the additional $500 in one household.

[Updated answer to the 700+ comments] By far the most common comment I am seeing on this article is where parent(s) have received their $1200/$2400 stimulus check but did not get their $500 kid stimulus credit for one or more of their eligible dependent children. This reader comment is a good example of this, “My husband and I filed married filing jointly and claimed our two boys 10 , and 6. We have filed it this way for years! And we only received the stimulus for us and nothing for them! And we have no idea who to call or how to fix this. It was obviously an error. Which is understandable considering all the people they have to do this for. But I just wish there was a way we could get the extra $1,000. Before filing next year.”

You can scroll down to see further examples (and some underlying reasons) like this but at this point there is little recourse for most people to resolve this in the near future as the IRS is not taking calls on this.

This age limit to get the dependent stimulus check is much younger than what is used by the IRS in the qualifying child test where a child must be younger than 19 years old or be a “student” younger than 24 years old as of the end of the calendar year. Hence the confusion being caused for many trying to claim this stimulus payment. So just remember if your child or eligible dependent is 17 or over at the end of 2020 you cannot claim the stimulus dependent payment for them. The full qualifying criteria for this payment is shown below.

College and High School Seniors Dependents

Thousands of college students and high school kids who are older than 17, but are still being claimed as a dependent by their parents or relative on their federal tax return, are unfortunately ineligible for the additional $500 payment based on current rules.

However if you are a college student AND filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return (file for free at Turbo tax), you may qualify for the $1200 stimulus check per standard rules. Note that you can still file a tax return (and must, if you want to get a refund of federal or state tax withholding) AND be a dependent on your parents return. So many 17 to 26 year old’s who filed federal returns will still not get a stimulus payment because they are considered dependents on their parents return (and their parents likely received a $500 tax credit for their dependency on the original return). A parent could technically file a revised tax return in which they no longer claim their college student (giving up $500) that would allow their child to claim the $1200 normal stimulus. This however may take a while to get paid out.

Grandparent, Step Parents and Relatives

It’s not uncommon for a grandparent, close relative or a step parent to claim a child living with them as a dependent. In these cases, the payment goes to the person who claimed that child as a dependent on the most recent tax return. They will still also have to meet the standard rules to qualify for the overall stimulus check payment. Just ensure multiple people don’t claim the same person as a dependent or like your tax refund, the stimulus payment could be delayed a long time as the IRS figures out the right person to pay.

$500 Payment

Most people who qualify for this payment will get it along with their stimulus check payment (direct deposit or check). The IRS has already started making these payments. In special circumstances or where the IRS needs to investigate further, the payment will come separately at a later date. This payment is not taxable and does not have to be paid back. You also won’t be required to repay any of the stimulus check even if your qualifying dependent turns 17 in 2020.

The one exception to this are for veterans or those who receive Social Security retirement or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits or SSI and have a qualifying child. The IRS does not have their qualifying dependent information so they will have to explicitly register via the IRS’ Non Filers payment update tool by April 22nd to receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in these groups do not provide their information they will have to wait until later in the year to receive their $500 per qualifying child payment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I am getting several hundred questions on this topic! Based on the IRS website and what I am seeing across several other reputable sites, I have tried to group and answer some of more common questions. Please consider this informational as everyone has a unique tax and life situation.

If parents or the primary filer does not qualify for $1200/$2400 stimulus check can they still get the $500 dependent stimulus?

It depends and the IRS guidelines are not very clear on for this. The ruling is that eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 will automatically receive an economic impact payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples AND up to $500 for each qualifying child. So it appears that both parents have to be eligible under standard rules to get the dependent stimulus. Note that the entire stimulus payment is subject to the income phase out – $5 for every $100 between the lower and higher Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) range – shown in the table below.

But where it gets a little complicated is that if you have kids, the maximum AGI threshold limits to get some of the $500 stimulus rise since your phase out limit is tied to your credit ($5 of credit for every $100 AGI). This allows you add $10,000 to your AGI limit for every child you claim as a dependent. For example if your income was exactly $99,000 as a single (or $198,000 joint) and you had no kids it would completely disqualify you for the standard $1,200 (or $2,400). But if you had two kids and were married filing jointly in 2019 you would still get some type of the $500 dependent stimulus until your AGI reaches $218,000.

Married filing jointly$150,000$198,000$208,000$218,000

Why didn’t I get the child dependent stimulus payment I was expecting

This is by far the most common theme I see questions around. While everyone has a unique situation when it comes to a qualifying dependent here are some answers I found from my research on why you didn’t get a payment or where it was much lower than expected. I have also addressed questions in the many comments below so please review those before adding a new one.

Your child was claimed by someone else according to IRS records. In this case you won’t get the $500 payment and will need to lodge a claim with the IRS (process still to be confirmed).

While you may have qualified for the stimulus payment based on income thresholds (shown above) your dependent child wasn’t qualified per IRS records and CARES stimulus rules summarized below. This is even more strict than the Child Tax Credit (CTC) criteria.

  • They must be related to you (blood, marriage, or adoption)
  • They must either be under the age of 17 by the end of 2020
  • You must claim them as a dependent on your tax return
  • They cannot provide more than half of their financial support during the tax year and must have lived with you for at least half of the year
  • They must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national or a U.S. resident alien

Note if you didn’t qualify for the CTC in your 2018 or 2019 tax return, you will not qualify for this stimulus payment either!

You get Social Security retirement, disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits or SSI. Per the section above you need to take an extra step and explicitly register via the IRS’ Non Filers payment update tool to receive the $500 per dependent child payment

Children born or adopted in 2020 or Change in Dependent status

If you had or adopted a child in 2020 or there was a change in dependent status since your 2019 tax filing the parent or qualifying relative could still be eligible for the $500 payment. But it will not be paid in via the current batch of stimulus check payments and will instead need to be claimed in your 2020 tax return as an additional credit. This is because the IRS is basing stimulus check payments on information from your 2019 or 2018 tax return, which won’t reflect children born or adopted this year, or any change in dependent status.

Past-due child support and garnishment lowered payment

The $500 child stimulus, like the regular adult stimulus payment, can be offset only by past-due child support or can be garnished by creditors once it hits your bank account. Both these reasons could mean a lowered stimulus payment that may look like you didn’t get the $500 additional kid stimulus. You will need to wait for a letter from the Bureau of the Fiscal Service to confirm the offset. For garnishments you will need to check with your bank to see which creditors have taken this payment.

IRS payment errors and missing dependent payments

The most common error I am seeing across the comments on this article is around the following examples:

“I claimed my [son or daughter] for [2018 or 2019] taxes and didn’t receive $500! What’s going on?????

My husband and I received 1200 each but nothing for our 13 year old son. We are under the income guidelines, no child support involved, and he has always been claimed on our taxes. I sure hope there is a solution to this soon. It’s so strange that this has happened to so many people.

We received our $2400.00 stimulus check on April 15, but didn’t get the additional $500 for our son/daughter. Is there something additional I need to fill out?”

So today I finally received my 1200 stimulus payment, which was suppose to be 1700 with the 500 for my son who is 8. I filed my taxes with him as a dependent and don’t understand why I did not receive the 500!! This is pretty heartbreaking that our country is falling apart and the only money I had coming in to support us during this time I didn’t even receive the full amount.

I used the IRS non filers tool to get my stimulus check. I received the $1200 stimulus payment, but did not receive the dependent portion for my 8 year old son. Upon review of the 1040 form I downloaded after submitting my personal information for my son and I, using the IRS Non-Filers Tool. I noticed that the box for the child tax credit was not [✔]checked off. Even though my son does qualify for the dependent stimulus payment. This is definitely an error on the IRS side. Checking the box was not an option when filling out the form online. It was something that had to be done when the form was generated using the tool. Anyway, my theory is that the “box” not being checked is the reason myself and many others did not receive their dependent portions of the stimulus payments.

Readers have left several comments along these lines and at a high level it looks the IRS is either not paying the $500 correctly for qualifying dependents or missing payments for families with multiple dependents, despite the adults getting the standard $1200 or $2400 stimulus.

But even if you do see a clear error or miss in your payments it might be difficult to get a hold of someone in the IRS to correct the issue in the near future. This is because the IRS teams are focused on getting the remaining stimulus payments out and have staffing constraints due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 related absences.

Also note if the IRS is still processing your 2019 tax return or refund it will likely use your 2018 tax return data to process this stimulus payment, so if your dependent information changed between your 2018 and 2019 return (e.g you had a kid) you may have a missed payment that would have been accounted if your 2019 tax return had actually been processed.

Can I contact the IRS for Stimulus Check Payment Issues or Errors?

The IRS has been mailing Economic Impact Payment (EIP) letters to each eligible recipient’s last known address 15 days after the stimulus check payment is made. It was supposed to provide details on how the payment was made and how to report any failure or underpayments (e.g a way to report the missing $500 payment). Unfortunately the letter has been of little help as discussed in this article. It provides a number to call which gets you an automated line that directs you to the IRS website for details. But if you stay on the line you can get connected to an IRS representative (after a long wait) to discuss general questions about the payment and your situation. See details and numbers to call in this article.

Update – The IRS has confirmed that those who did not receive the full amount of stimulus payment they believe they were entitled to – including the $500 child dependent payment – will need to claim the additional amount when they file their 2020 tax return. This is tough news for many families who needed/expected the $500 payment as soon as possible and were hoping to get a supplementary or corrective payment in the mail sometime in the near future. You’ll now need to wait till 2021 when you file your tax return to fix this.

For VA and SSI recipients who don’t have a filing requirement and have a child, they need to use the Non-Filers tool (see above) to have the $500 added automatically to their standard stimulus check payment.

It has also been nearly impossible to contact the IRS via numbers provided in the EIP for your issues with the $500 child stimulus per this article. But also note that the IRS will not contact you about your stimulus check payment details either. Watch out for scams and people trying to steal this information from you in the name of expediting your Economic Impact Payments.

Finally you will also likely be able to claim any missing payments in your 2020 tax return. All this unfortunately will mean delays in getting your stimulus payment until issues are worked through.

Now everyone has different tax and dependent situations so I first suggest you review the above FAQs in this article to ensure you meet income and qualifying dependent criteria per your most recently filed tax return. You can also search for many articles on this website for commonly reported stimulus check errors. Before leaving a comment see what others have written and lessons learned. And most of all, be nice to each other.

  1. I did not recieve the 500 for my dependent child that I claim ed on my taxes the child is 5yrs old and lives with me and I have supported her for all of 2020 but she is not related to me why didnt I recieve the 500 dependent for her the files tool showed I would get it but I didnt

  2. My 17 year old daughter filled her own taxes. Is she eligible for a stimulus check? She is not a dependent on anyone’s taxes.

      1. I had a baby in 2019 and file my taxes every year. He didn’t show up on my 2018 taxes so I didn’t get a check for him. Do I need to fill out the non-filers form by Sept. to get a check this year?

  3. I’m told my check is to be mailed 8-14(today). I used non-filer because I haven’t had to file taxes for 2 years. Do I need to use that tool again to get the 500 dollars for my son? I tried to find the amount being issued but haven’t had any luck.

    1. Yes they deposit my$800 on the 5th if Aug but should have been $2000. So i called about 8 times between 90-180 min calls and last one the guy was extremely nasty.. didn’t understand what i was saying telling me i looked about getting the $1200… I said No i said i didn’t get the $1200 on my ssi card like everyone else, they put that on the card i specifically put in for the dependents. Nasty and kept telling me you have to wait and if you don’t get it by 12/31/20 to file taxes !!! Umm one i don’t file taxes and second why am i being penalized like people that didn’t bother to fill out for the dependents? Irs and news both said TAS were helping irs with calls for people who were sent wrong payments… Problem is if you even get a person on the phone they refuse to get you to the TAS !!!! Really crazy. I told him no problem next yr i will start filling FRAUD schedule C with millions of other people and then i will get the right payments on top of fraud taxes! Like come on now. Crazy to me that i filled out day it opened before a deadline was announced and they are reissuing payments they messed up but there’s still no way to let anyone know it’s still wrong! The amount they sent isn’t even a dependent amount! Then to check irs get my payment and that stupid thing still has the April 29th on it!

  4. Are they sending the $500.00 to kid’s that are 17 to 24 that was claimed as dependent’s? Or is this for the first stimulus check. I have read some news articles that say if your child is 17 and younger then they should have gotten the $500.00 stimulus check. The article’s didn’t say under 17. They said 17 and younger. So I am just wondering if we will be receiving a check for our 17 year old son. We still support him and he is in school. Can anyone help answer my questions?

    1. Under 17, college kids who work, cannot be claimed on parents tax as dependent, that’s how I read it, I too am waiting because we didn’t get it at the beginning, tried the other method before july 5th 2020, didn’t get it then dow we wait maybe sometime this month August, if not December this year?

  5. What if I filled out the non filers form before May 17th, the deadline, but it was processed later?? Will I still get the $500 for my dependents?? I received my stimulus, but not for my dependents and I don’t see an update on payment status..

    1. As far as i know as long as you filled it out before May 17th you should automatically get the dependent money. Now i did on April 10 th got only $1200 on April 29th and nothing for my kids… Well on Aug 5th i had a deposit of only $800. So either they were thinking i got 1200out of my depended and only ones me 800 , which is fine but that mean i never got my $1200.. and of course irs knows nothing…i had to tell them about the deposits coming they didn’t even know and they work there i don’t. So i heard on Monday the TAS will be helping people who got wrong amount stimulus…so i would invest the two hours on phone to get help…i am calling also cause everyone else got right amount we should too

  6. I received 500 for my daughter that was 17 and 500 for my grandson whom I had in my care then. They went by my 2018 taxes because I hadn’t filed my 2019 so how do I rectify that?

    1. Hi Lisa,
According to Q68 of IRS FAQs (current number at any rate, the number can change if new questions are added), the money is yours.

A68. No, there is no provision in the law that would require individuals who qualify for a Payment based on their 2018 or 2019 tax returns, to pay back all or part of the payment, if based on the information reported on their 2020 tax returns, they no longer qualify for that amount or would qualify for a lesser amount.

For example, you received $500 for your child who, based on your 2018 or 2019 tax return, met the qualifying child requirements. That child turned 17 in 2020 and no longer meets the qualifying child requirements. You will not be required to pay back the $500.

Or, for example, you received $500 for your child whom you claimed on your 2018 or 2019 tax return. You do not claim the child on your 2020 tax return because the child’s other parent claims the child. You will not be required to pay back the $500 even if the child’s other parent claims $500 for the same child on his or her 2020 tax return.

  7. Missing $500dependent payments?? I read that Rettig and Mnuchin testified in court that they were going to send out the missing payments to the “non filers” that used it between Apr10-May 17 due to “the government losing info” ? Funny thing they lost info but the card they sent mine to was only set up and activated for the “dependent payments” ! So you loser everything but the bank info? So for almost 3 weeks i keep searching for answers and can only keep finding they they are sending the ones out by end of July!!!!! Ummm its been the end of July! Has anyone gotten this supplimental payment? I filled out for a family member who has early dementia about two weeks ago (if that) and she got a date of Aug 5 th online……. Yet i have 4 kids live on my ssi check and can’t fix my only vehicle. Don’t worry all these people with fraud sched c tax returns got their dependent money and blew it gambling and buying hair and nails. What a shame. It’s usually the people who use it for the child that never gets it. Curious if anyone ride has seen this testimony from irs nd treasury director!?

  8. Hello all not sure if this is good news but I posted back in April with the same issue as everyone else, I used the non filers tool as I had not filed taxes 2018 or 2019 I received my portion of the stimulus but not for my son however I got an alert from my bank and only just checked it this evening and the $500 from the stimulus was deposited, I’m praying this happens for everyone and you all receive what is owed, I’m hoping the IRS is working on this issue and distributing the funds to everyone

    1. Wow. Awesome to hear and looks like the IRS is finally catching up on processing. Thanks for letting us know.

      1. I’m hoping that’s what is happening everyone needs their money for they’re Children it’s a small relief but it’s needed! Hopefully the next stimulus package won’t have this issue

    2. I ALSO just recieved a notice for mine being processed and to be deposited. I also commented about not receiving using non filers. Way to go IRS!!!! Thank you! Seriously, its more of a blessing now then it was than!!!!!

      1. Great! Yes it’s definitely a blessing to receive the money when you least expect it. So happy you got what’s owed to you and your family, I’m hoping everyone else has the same outcome soon.

    3. I have seen that Mnuchin and Rettig said they were getting us Non Filersrs the missing money by end of July !! Mine is a card that can’t hold it so soon as it is sent it goes to me, the reason i got my$1200 4/29 but most other ssi people not till 5/13. I hope they are sending to all because my vehicle is ready to be useless and my son started football and school starts this month so i could use their payments for them! Happy already you got it coming, it mean a glimmer of hope for us all waiting!!

      1. I as well received mines April 27, the stimulus for my son I received July 31 but I didn’t know until I checked my account the next afternoon. I’m hoping you’ll get yours soon I know it’s needed for us parents for our children, Hopefully we don’t have this issue with the next stimulus coming.

    4. I submitted the non-filer form in May and finally got the $500 for my child in my direct deposit account on July 31. I’m glad IRS went through with it. I hope the amounts keep coming for everybody.

      1. That’s great news! Hoping everyone gets their dependents stimulus package in the next few days, the IRS is definitely working on it.

      2. I filled out my non filers form in April.. I received my stimulus check, but nothing for my sons.. There’s no update posted either.. Makes me wonder if I’m even going to get anything for them

    5. Are you receiving SSI? I am asking because I read the article about SSI beneficiaries who used non-filers getting the dependent money reissued, but I am trying to find out if everyone who used non-filers who didn’t receive the dependant money will get the money as well. I am low income and do not file taxes, but I am not SSI. I am hoping they will do the right thing and reissue for all who used non filers with dependants.

      1. Yes i am ssi. Every article i can find says that if you used the non filers site between 4/10 and 5/17 they are re issuing the missing dependent payments out !! So i tread couple people have pending $500 in their Bank and couple had a date of aug 5th. My issue is the account i opened just for the dependent payments is a green dot card and don’t accept deposits ir anything on sat, sun or holidays…so I’m hoping i wake up to a deposit my vehicle is depending on it along with my sons football equipment and back to school extras that always put me in a hole. Im not sure if it’s just ssi/ssdi/va/rrb prime that used it between the dates or any non filer that did. I Google “missing eip dependent payments being sent out July” and there’s about 4-5 diff ones. I even found the 41pg court order that rettig and mnuchin testified to sending it to us end of July! I called irs back in May and after almost 2 hours on phone they couldn’t verify my identity because i didn’t remember the exact day i was approved for disability!!! Crazy

        1. Kat Owens, I only have one child and still waiting on mine. I am hoping we see deposits this week.

        2. Ok. Thank you. I was just trying to logically figure out the system LOL. I see again people commenting that you have to wait and file 2020 taxes next yr. I know what i have been following and feel like posting the articles and court order but all anyone has to do is search and read you know. So i see proof of what i read so hope we all do soon. **Anyone else– this is for people who used the non filers tool online between April 10 & May 17th since the Irs lost info supposedly and are re issuing incorrect payments. If you didn’t fill out for your dependents yes you have to wait till taxes. Irs page FAQ #57 will show… Also Google Rettig & Mnuchin sending missing eip dependent payments end of July.

        3. So a little update . On my one card i have a pending deposit of $800. Great news! But thing is i have 4 kids and myself. So i think they believe the $2000 for kids was shorted $800 which would make that deposit correct, but then that also means i still haven’t gotten my $1200 like everyone else did back on May 13th! Crazy. I’m grateful for some of it but in all reality the people who got many shouldn’t have.. The ones who NEED and use for kids and repairs don’t…! So I’m hoping everyone owed missing payments gets it by the 5th!

        4. I still never got my two kids money from the first stimulus money. They’re 13 and 14 I tried using non filers but never could get it to work. I get ssi and don’t file taxes. I’m not really smart enough with the internet to find anyone to help me even. I’m glad that others are starting to get theirs tho. The times are still hard for everybody.

        5. There has been many many issues and glitches with the non filers tool. I just filled out for my aunt with dementia and she got a deposit date 2 weeks later. I think it doesn’t work on cell phones, when i filled it in April i had to log off and go back in to do it on a tablet. Many people have issues with filling out on cell phones you can’t see everything on there to do. Hope this helps. If you have a tablet or a local library or family member that has one then i think you should be able to fill it out. Just make sure you have kids socials and a card routing n account number for direct deposit

      2. No I don’t receive SSI but because I hadn’t filed my taxes 2018 or 2019 I was told to use the non filers form to make sure I received my stimulus direct deposit not knowing this issue would happen, I’m hopeful everyone will get their dependents stimulus package soon.

      3. FYI, I’m not on SSI but on low income like you. I filled the non-filer and finally received the $500 dependent a few days ago. So yours may be on the way.

        1. Thanks. I hope so. It’s just nerve racking that there is no way to get any info. Yes i understand it’s”free money” but some of us need a little boost or help. I did have a great job before my physical issues and getting tan over by an 18 wheeler so to me it’s just some of my own money back. I appreciate all the info anyone has. I would think they would start sending it by date like apr10- apr 15th then apr 16-23 etc (just an example) but it seems like everyone who has gotten w deposit over the weekend Friday/Saturday all only have one child? Has anyone else gotten their deposits that has more then one child?

        2. Thank you, this is good to hear! It gives me hope to see people are starting to see the dependent deposits in their account.

    6. Hello everyone, the $500 dependent money was deposited into my account yesterday so looks like they have been fixing this issue. I hope everyone starts seeing their deposits this week.

      1. I got direct deposit of 1500 stimulus dependent money for my 3 kids today. I think IRS is sending stimulus money for dependents. I hope everyone will get their kids stimulus money by end of August.

        1. Great to hear. Looks like several people are finally getting their $500. The IRS must be processing backlogs, getting ready for the next stimulus check.

      2. Hello everyone I just got my money for my 2 son today I’m so happy they fix it I did my in April as well so hold on if your file it you should get it May god bless everyone

      3. That’s great to hear! Everyone should be getting deposits soon we’ve waited long enough

      4. Yes… Between Friday and today many many people have been getting the$500 deposited. Has any with more then one child gotten the correct amount?? Again out of 356,000 people who got no payments, i again didn’t get correct amount lol. It seems to be they deducted the$1200 i got in April from the children’s total which would leave 800 and that deposit i got. Now that means i got no$1200 also the irs has no clue it was even happening. I was on phone yesterday over 2 hours there woman even looked up all info i gave her to verify to help other callers but they knew nothing about this lol. Only problem now there’s no one to tell if it’s still wrong. While i am grateful to get something,. I can’t get ahead or breathing room loving on just ssi. So in mean Time i chose again between vehicle repairs or school things for my 4 kids. If anyone has any contact info or info at all let me know. Again glad everyone is stating to see something

        1. Yes, I got 3 kids.. my children dependents stimulus money was deposited today morning. I hope everyone will get their child stimulus payment by end of Aug.

      1. Hi Faith, no mines was deposited July 31 I didn’t realize until the next day, hopefully you’ll get yours very soon a lot of people in this forum let me know they’ve got theirs deposited so stay alert with you account

      2. Some people were on the 31sr and first and most pending for the 5th… according to what i have read and the irs they are doing them until the middle if Aug. Then they said i have too Dec 31st. Which if you ask me is stupid. I did my part like many others.. While im glad i got some of what i should have gotten back in April still hard to do things in dribs and drabs… Longer i can’t do repairs on my truck more im going to need to do! Plus school for 4 children. So hopefully you’re will come also. If not start calling irs not that 919 number the regular irs number and ask for TAS starting tomorrow they are supposed to be helping the irs help people who Stimulus was wrong. Actually today, Aug 10th. Good luck. If i find any more info i will update. I check everyday online to find what i can.

        1. Sorry about the typo …. My phone keeps changing words and i didn’t notice.

  9. It isn’t fair that with the first stimulas check my son turned 17 the same day they signed the bill. Now with the second round of checks my step-son just turned 17. They are still in high school and dependents on my tax return and they don’t work because I rather they focus on their grades so they can get into a good college. Having the cut off age at 17 wasn’t right. My boys needed the same things any other child needed at the time, and I was like most parents at that time. I went from being able to have my bills paid, a roof over our heads, and food on the table and having a small savings account to losing my job, school being closed and now I need to feed my boys at least 3 meals a day. There should’ve been if their 17 and still in high school you’d get the dependent help but if they were 17 and out of school then you don’t. That would’ve been more fair. So I really hope they change the dependent guidelines with the second stimulus check, because now they’re both 17 and will be going back to school in less then a month and will need school uniforms, shoes, and school supplies just like every other school age child. Parents of 17 year old children who are still in high school should be able to get finical help. At 17 they aren’t legally adults and by law if a parent wasn’t taking care of them then that parent would be in trouble. If your child has already graduated or dropped out of high school then I can understand them not qualifying.

    1. They expanded the dependent age limit to 24 so, if it passes as is, you will get the stimulus for both boys.

    1. Pfffff. I never got the first $500 for my daughter. Not holding my breath on this one.

    2. No. I jist filled out for my aunt ( she is like 52) suffering from early alzheimers/ dementia barely 2 weeks ago and she had a date of Aug 5th on the portal last night!!

  10. My mother claimed my oldest daughter on her taxes for 18 and 19 but I have had her and I receive ssi I don’t understand why I wouldn’t have gotten the 500 for her and than I used the non filter tool for me and my youngest witch I received mine but not my youngest daughters I’m not understanding what is going on

    1. The stimulus is using 2019 (or 2018 if 2019 hasn’t been filled).

If you are claiming your oldest on your 2020 tax filing, this qualifies as a change in dependency and you should receive the stimulus then (your mom may have to repay the $500, not sure how the IRS is planning to handle this situation – I have it only in reverse).

My understanding is the non-filer tool didn’t capture any dependents but you will receive the stimulus on your 2020 filing. Doesn’t help now unfortunately.

      1. I’m in the same situation with my daughter and I haven’t received anything for my youngest daughter I’m not quite sure what to do because I don’t file taxes so how would this work for me

        1. I would like to know this as well. I don’t file taxes so how are we supposed to claim the $500 next year?

  11. I filed threw the non flier tool and i recieve ssi and they didnt give me my money for my son5years old or stepdaughter 14years old which is bs we really need the money we are struggling too pay bills and keep up with rent. Its really stressful and depressing to not recieve the money for my kids i was planning on using for bills/rent but as u can see they can care less i actually called the irs and was on hold for 2 hours too hear oh the irs is working on fixing this issue total bs i have no faith in this system whats so ever its been a let down and will continue too be a let down its ashame cause people that really need the money didnt recieve the money for there kids..Its just sad the government is giving out such little money with the worst year and crisis in american history that money is already gone before it even comes but watever god bless too all and hopefully they do get it right and help the american people until then keep praying lets see how that works out

  12. So I receive SSI as do my husband and 16 yr old son. Like all of you here we did not receive any stimulus for or disabled son. I also used thIRS filers tool and claimed our son and did it before the 1st deadline. AsI see here almost a thousand comments I assume that the govt did not plan on giving “every man, woman and child” the money promised. No mistake of anyone here and no mistake ofthe govt or IRS, it was done purposely!!!! I am so disgusted with our govt that I am ashamed!!!! Only working people who file taxes and claim a dependant get $500 per up to three children and the hell with the people who live on the lowest possible incomes in America and our veterans who have fought for and defended our country even get the shaft. How utterly disgraceful!!!! Are they trying to decrease the surplus population by letting the the sick, the disabled and the heros of this country starve to death while the rich get richer and fatter??!!! I do not believe we will ever see that child stimulus payment…not even next year…they had not planned on doing it at all. They wonder why people stockpiled food and supplies, why people arent paying their rent or their bills. This country that I love has gone straight to hell. Instead of protesting black lives matter, gay rights, changing names of teams and food products, boycotting books, movies, tv shows or tearing down statues, what we should be doing is protesting ALL lives matter, all people need help right now and most of all our crooked govt that forgot they are all adults voted in by the people to serve the people. I dont give a damn if you are a republican or a democrat, step up and help the iminet desperation of your country and stop the childish bickering. Stop giving illeagal immigrants, inmates and deceased people stimulus money and give it to the people that were promised it!!! Stop giving the irlines money to build new planes hen people are dying by the thousands, losing their homes, cant pay bills nor feed their families!!!

  13. I have split custody of my child with claiming her as a dependent every other year. I didn’t claim her for 2019 my ex got the $500 child stimulus. He has no intention of splitting this with me although we have a true 50/50 split time. Is there a way to get the half I should have received without taking him to court? Is there some kind of stipulation for this kind of situation?

    1. When you claim your child on your 2020 filing, you should get the $500 as this is a change in dependency. Your ex may or may not have to repay the $500. I’m guessing the IRS is going to take it back.

  14. What or who should I contact if the person that claim my kids on 2019 taxes received my stimulus 500 for my kids and no longer has permission. How do can I file for my dependent stimulus payment if I already did a non-filler. I don’t want miss out on the next round she does not provide for my kids and My kids needs this.

    1. This falls under the change in dependency. When you file your 2020 tax year forms, you will receive the stimulus for your child. Despite all the information saying people don’t pay back if they received too much, that is only based on income level changes, not dependency changes. The person who received the stimulus amount for your child now will most likely be required to repay it when they file for 2020.

    2. I have the same issue. My ex has filed using both of my daughters as dependents for two years and he has not given any support. I also filed as a non filer and my dependents were rejected. I have even called the irs and they said it was a civil matter. I refuse to take that as an answer. I am currently trying to report him for tax fraud by trying to submit a paper non filers form. That is the best thing I can figure for is to do at this time.

      1. If your ex claimed your children fraudulently, then, yes, report him for fraud. You really should have reported it the first year it took place.

In Nichole’s situation, she doesn’t say the person who claimed the children in 2019 did so fraudulently. Only that the children are her dependents for 2020. This doesn’t constitute fraud. It is a change in dependency.

  15. I would appreciate opinion or help. I received my 1200 from non filers but not 500$ for my daughter . She is tiring 17 this month and wondering if she can apply for her own stimulus now ? She is not claimed on anyone’s taxes . Yes I put her name on my irs non filers form but didn’t receive 500 for her (like everyone else ).any info appreciated thanks !

    1. If she files taxes this year, she can apply for the stimulus payment in her tax return assuming she meets all the income criteria.

  16. Update: I just received my non-filers stimulus check today (June 3). I received the $1200 but NOT the $500 for my eligible son. So the IRS has still not fixed the glitch.

    1. I got thru to a IRS representative, I used non filers tool on IRS WEBSITE! She looked up my 1040 and said she remembered what the problem was back with the stimulus package years ago. THE CHILD TAX CREDIT BOX IS NOT CHECKED. I DID MINE ON MY PHONE. BUT MADE SURE THERE Was NO DIFFERENCE USING A PC. THERE IS NOOOOO OPTION TO CHECK THE (CTC BOX) USING NON FILERS AT IRS.GOV. IM GOING TO LOSE MY HOME MISSING $500 PER MY 4 CHILDREN!!! SHE further said at this time , nothing they can do. They’ve recieved no guidance on moving forward or over riding it. She spoke as tho it was my mistake! I provided all the correct information after quadruple checking if I was able to check this box. Now when you go to print you can see the box, and that it’s not CHECKED. AND THERE IS NO WAY TO CORRECT IT USING THEIR TOOL! MY OPINION, SHE SAID SAME PROBLEM AS LAST TIME. SO HOW MAKE A TOOL, AND NOT CORRECT THE MISTAKE ON THE SITE AGAIN! NO IM NOT LAZY, IM ILL AWAITING, FIGHTING DISABILITY! BRAIN SUEGERY DONE ONCE ON THE RIGHT, WAITING on doing THE LEFT! THIS NO DOUBT IS NOT OUR MISTAKE! I promised my landlord money I was promised and DID NOT RECIEVE, MAKING ME LOOK BAD! SO WRONG!!!!! How will we recieve it in 2021 if once again the disabled, VETERANS won’t be filing in 2021. But will be most likely too late by then!!!

      1. I’m so sorry for your situation. You are 100% right. The IRS made a huge mistake and they have no intention to fix it. It is indeed IMPOSSIBLE to check that box. I can’t believe she said it was your mistake. Not a single person in the country who used this tool has received a penny for their children. This is absolutely ridiculous and the IRS has no accountability for their mistakes and incompetence. But if we make a mistake on our tax returns and forget to pay them even 1 cent, you can bet they will be contacting us in a hurry. What a joke.

        1. Just sad. My payment was based off of my previous tax return for 2018, not the non-filers form and they did not pay me for my two qualified children that were claimed then.

        2. Exactly! IRS made the mistake and has screwed everyone who has used the non filers tool for the dependant payment.

      2. im sorry this happened to you i also got backed up on rent as my landlord assumed i would get help for my children i also did everything i was supposed to before there was a deadline i am on ssi i have 7 kids and expecting and its not right we follow all there rules only to be over looked whats the point of getting it next year what are we supposed to do now how is there no way when this wasnt are fault it was there mistake and should be fixed i hope everything works out for you many people dont see how hard it can be with a disability you cant change or the struggle because knowing as parents we will not fail are kids we dont know how but for are kids we will find away god bless and dont lose faith

  17. I don’t agree with the way they decided who receives it for children. My stepkids mother passes away November 2019 so we have had them since then. Her non-working husband filed her taxes and claimed the kids (which is correct since they had them 10 months of the year). I believe that we should have gotten the stimulus money for the kids as they have been in our custody since November, not their stepfather.

    1. This is under change of dependency. When you file your 2020 taxes, you will get the stimulus money for the children. Most likely, the IRS will require the stepparent to repay the money. All info about not having to repay if you received too much is based on income changes not changes in dependency. Payments sent for people who died prior to disbursement is required to be returned, so, if he received money for the children’s mother, that has to be paid back as well.

  18. Have any of the recent users of the non-filers tool had any luck receiving their dependent’s money? This would mean the glitch has been corrected. I’m wondering if even a single person in the country has received the $500 dependent payment via the non-filers tool yet.

    1. No one I know, including myself have gotten the dependant money after filing non filers. We can’t claim next year on taxes if we don’t even file taxes.

  19. We received neither the $1200/person (prorated) nor the $500/child stimulus but I think we should have gotten the per child stimulus. Our AGI is over the $198k max but our 2018 1040 included our then 1 year and our then 3 year old. Do you ONLY receive the $500/child IF you are a jointly filling married couple with less than $198k AGI?

  20. If my dad claimed my son as a dependent then who is supposed to get the stimulus check. Me or my dad?

    1. If you claim your child for 2020, this will be a change in dependency and you should receive the $500 at that time. Your father may have to pay it back.

  21. I Received the $1.200 dollars but dint received my two children stimulus check the extra $1.000 dollars Im tax exempt the President Promised a stimulus check the IRS said to submit and to up date deposit account information with my dependents information and nothing happen Im a veteran and submit two times to the IRS to update my direct deposit checking account information that has been set for long time on the 22 nd off April and also submit for the second time via the Vet system direct deposit on may the 5th and still have not received nothing for my children its really very un sat the promised so what else I can tell you I cant file taxes so for me most likely we wont get any at the end of the lane.

  22. I have custody both of my children and they’ve been living with me since the divorce. My ex husband wrongfully claimed one of my kids on his tax return 2018. After I filed amended return, took awhile for me to get that money back. Anyway, I think he did the same thing this year, calmed her on his tax 2019, that why I only received 0ne of my kids stimulus check. I tried to call the IRS but no away to get hold of them. Can anyone tell me what I have to do to get that $500 back? Thank you!

  23. why is my handicapp son is not eligibility for the 500.00 dollars when he is eligibility for earn income credit on my taxes . no one can answer my question.. I have filed for it but there is always something wrong since birth (handicapp) born 1965 I know he is over 17 but I file him as a special need with dr. statement why are they not mention nothing about this ? can not get no one on the phone!!!!!

    1. No dependents over 17 qualify for the EIP. I don’t know why it was wet up this way but it is what it is, unfortunately.

  24. Big question answered by the IRS… “where is my $500 per child that I followed the specific guidelines of having to fill out for non-filers before a specific date of April 25 then it changed to May 5th that had to be filled out for non-filers?” So I have been calling the 800.919.9835 and 800.829.1040 for days and poof I finally had a live person answer. The live person was extremely nice and explained to me that not one… yes I said Not one single $500 child dependent payment has been processed as of yet. All she could say was that if I don’t get the payment this year I will have to file next year to receive it. So then I asked will the payments for $500 per child be sent out this year and she just kept on saying if I don not get it this year then I will have to file next year. Then I asked will any $500 payment be processed this year. She then said she has not seen any update on whether any payment will be processed this year but if I do not receive it then I have to file next year. She also said this is all new to them and they have no format or procedure in place on when or even whether any $500 payment will be made this year at all…. so my conclusion is that for everyone that has followed the guidelines of carefully taking the time of filling out the information on the IRS non-filers tool hoping to get a payment of the $500 child dependent, well think again because they told us one thing and did not even follow through with what they said they were going to do. I feel they should be honest with us about not paying the $500 child dependent money to us because it would surely save the public’s own sanity of having to try and call daily to get an actual live person on the phone. And also save the IRS from having to pay the people that answer the phones for all the people with the same question… Hmmmmm maybe they feel we have to much time on our hands and want us to call in and keep this never ending cycle of going round and round… Question to the IRS or Power that be… please just tell us if it’s going to be paid this year or if you are just out of money from sending the money to deceased people, or $1,000,000. to people on accident… by letting people know this up front will save on out sanity and know that we will not expect the money this year as it was intended to help us feed our kids….

  25. I am a single father and my 12 year old daughter is on disability. I recieved my 1200 because I filed 2019 taxes with her as a dependent but did not recieve the 500 for her. I have been trying to find answers for the last 2 weeks and coming to no solutions can someone please tell me what is going on.

  26. I receive SSDI I have been for 6yrs and both of my children receive also. We all receive monthly money on my Direct Express card and again have been for 6 yrs but I only receive my $1200 I used non-filers tool April 29. It was received and approved and I was given a submission # . I have tried using all of their tools to find out where it is. I have went back to look at Non-filers form and their is an option to check status of your file. When I typed in my information it says my form does not exist even though I received IRS approval and sub. # it is still saying it doesn’t exist. I have 2 pre-teen boys and we live off of our small amount of SSDI and I don’t file taxes and can’t wait till next year for money I have to feed these children. The food banks we were going to are closed. Is there any other way of finding out where it is ? That money will help us eat !!

  27. I get SSDI and have 3 qualified children. Used non filer on irs.gov on April 10, 2020. I did not receive $1500. Why did I not receive the money? The money was set aside for parents to receive now. Why do we have to wait until 2021? And since we probably will have to wait how do we file for that money if we are non filers? Can’t the irs go to the non filers site and fix the problem and pay us now since the site has all our information?

  28. Hello. I did an error on my stimulus check but it was sent to the IRS. How can I fix it?

  29. I am trying to find out how I can report some who got a stimulus payment for a child that no longer lives with them.

    1. You can go to IRS site and look for a place to report tax fraud. But note re the $500 payment, if it has been made then there is no provision to return it.

      1. It’s not fraud if the child was legally claimed on their 2019 (or 2018) tax filing. This is a gray area and actually affects me because I had 3 foster children in 2019 (placed with me in Nov 2018) and they reunified in late December 2019. I have the money sitting in the bank waiting for how to handle this from the IRS.

      1. Unless the child was fraudulently claimed on the other person’s taxes, you will have to wait until you file for 2020. This is a change in dependency. The person who received the money will most likely have to pay it back to the IRS.

  30. I received my 1,200 payment, but not the 500 for my five year old daughter. My ex claimed her on his 2018-2019 tax return since he and I split up at the very end of 2018. He has never paid child support or helped at all with her. I have been the one to provide for her the entire year of 2019 and thus far in 2020. Does that mean he will get her 500$ payment instead? If so how can I fix this? And does that mean he will also get her next check if it goes through??

    1. Yes he will get this. You can try and claim this in your 2020 tax return however and ensure you claim her on your return. There is little you can do for the IRS to ask for that payment back and send to you. You could take legal action but that would cost you more than $500. Note if he does owe your child support, the payment should have been intercepted.

  31. This is definately an error on the IRS side. Checking the box was not an option when filling out the form online. It was something that had to be done when the form was generated using the tool. Anyway, my theory is that the “box” not being checked is the reason myself and many others did not receive their dependent portions of the stimulus payments.

    1. The same thing happen to me and I know they got the non filer form I filled out cause I but my bank info on that form and my 1200 went direct deposit but not my extra earned this is not fair to us

    2. I too saw this exact detail on my Non-Filers print copy I made. I also went back to see if it was my mistake but as you said, it was not an option when filing with the online tool. I think this is why the smarter thing would have been to file using the paper form and sending it in through the mail. Unfortunately, I did not do it this way only because of the hurry for the 5 May cutoff I thought I was on, but did not apply to my situation. I also wondered that because the 4 kids I care for are grandchildren to me and they are on California welfare system, because their only parent is in prison, I wondered if it was because of this that I did not get funded the $500 for each kid, but I am convinced this was not a factor since welfare it appears is not a disqualifier for the stimulus. So now I think all I have left is to make a print of all that was submitted and I even got a screenshot of the IRS online tool where the child credit option was not available so that when I file next year I can hopefully still get something for these children.

    3. I notice that also when I printed it out. I went back and double checked it online and it was not an option. Can we print it and send a letter letting them know it was not an option on their website. The number they said to call didn’t help at all.

    4. This is 100% percent correct. I triple checked and it is impossible to check that box, no matter how hard you try. The box simply does not exist in the online form.

  32. yes i am writing this because i have an issue about an idenity pin and i cant get it reissued please help me

  33. yes please help i have been issued a pin number due to idenity theft last year so i cannot receive it the new letter stating my new number got misplaced in a move and last years tax records burned up in a house fire and i cannot get it reissued what in the hell am i suppose to do i have tried everything

  34. My grandson came to live with me in February of 2020. His mom signed a Declaration of Parental authority (DOPA) and I will be claiming my grandson on my 2020 taxes. His mom got the $500 stimulus check for him as she claimed him on her 2019 taxes. I’m wondering if there is anything I can do to get any future stimulus checks that might be awarded for him since he is now living with me?

      1. Thank you for your reply. I’m just afraid that the check again will automatically go to his mother since she claimed him on her 2019 taxes and he will not get the benefit of the funds. she kept the first $500 stimulus money that she received for him even though he has been living with me since February.

    1. You will get the $500 and any other stimulus amount when you file your 2020 taxes. Mom will have to pay it back on her 2020 taxes.

  35. Good afternoon, i receive SSI and SSD i filed April 11th to claim my children. Yes i received my payment but have not received theirs please explain why? It is needed for them. Thank you and God bless.

    1. The IRS site crashed and most people who use the nonfilers tool didnt get anything for their kids or nothing at all or higher or lower amounts its a huge mess and they first said file next year then said they will correct it LIES LIES WHO KNOWS

      1. So I also receive SSI & have a Qualifying Dependant, As well I filled out the required NON-FILERS INFORMATION section on IRS.gov site on 04/16/2020, on 04/30/2020 I received the $1200 EIP stimulus for myself via direct deposit but I did not receive the $500 for my dependant. I waited thinking maybe they would send it within the weekend or at least by Monday the 2nd of May or latest by Tuesday the 3rd of May… & NOTHING came so, I filed again on the NON-FILERS info area of the IRS.gov site thinking maybe they somehow didnt get my info although I do have confirmation via email text & screen shot that my info was received and accepted on 04/16/2020 or possibly some other type of overlooking or issue may have delayed the dependant payment. So on Tuesday May 3rd 2020 I filed again o. the same NON-FILERS info area of IRS.gov site again receiving acceptance & confirmation of my info to IRS… so NOW 0518/2020 I sit wondering what the heck is going on & when will I see the $500 deposited to my bank account. I checked again just before writing this & still says same thimg my info has been accepted etc. so my question is AM I GOING TO HACE TO FILE A TAX RETURN IN A YEAR / 2021 TO RECEIVE THE $500 OR WHAT? As Ive NO idea why or what could have held up the paynent for my 1 qualified dependant whom before my receiving SSI I Have been the ONLY PERSON to EVER claimed the dependant on ANY tax returns EVER, so shouldnt be any type of confusion on that part. Also if my child is owed child support via Income withholding by non-custodial parent Will the offset be sent to my child or to the state child support office?
Thank you for allowing this discussion & q& a board… it has helped me to clairify a few things on this matter.

      2. Did you know that the nonfiler tool online did not have the child credit option on the form? It probably would have been better to file using a printout and sending it through the mail. Unfortunately, now we all have to wait to claim this next year… What a mess-up… don’t know if this was on purpose, but it sure looks like it… from my view.

        1. Yes the Nonfiler tool does have an area for your child’s info it ask for the child’s name date of birth social security number and your relationship to the child

        2. I think it is too ..and what id like to where is all that money the we didnt get for dependants and i think its bullshit we have to wait til next year

    2. Just wanted to add for those who think they made a mistake on the non-filers form – that is most likely not the reason you didn’t get your credit for your children. I filed taxes, so they went off of my most recent tax returns (last year) when I had claimed my two children (1yo, 2yo). They still did not give me any credits for my kids. I’ve given up on them doing the right thing and correcting this.

  36. i did the non filers tool on time got accepted got 1200 for my self and nothing for my kids

  37. so in april no mention of a child tax credit so now there is?? it stated everyone with a dependent under 16 would receive 500 not every tax payer will receive a child tax credit of 500 way to get out of giving it to those you forgot….. that was wrong of the irs they never said child tax credit this upsets me bigtime not so much as the money but of them flipping the script

  38. This was total BS, a dependent is a dependent, so my millionaire brother and his wife who dont work both get $1200 each, but a struggling single mom with a 17 -24 yr old dependent, or people with an elderly dependent doesnt get it, TOTAL BS!

  39. I have not received my kids $500 check and there is nowhere to call to check what to do? I have 2 kids

  40. Have 2 kid that I didn’t get the $500 I was expecting it for Bill’s and now I have to wait tell next year when I probably would not need it I need it now that makes no sense to have to wait that long

    1. I have two kids and did not get it for them both under 17. Even tho I did the non filers Apr 10th or the first day it came out I think was the 10th. Now they say we can just wait til next year?? Remind me again what it was for,, Money to help with the corona pandemic.? Yeah I thought so. I understand it was a terrible time and everyone was busy sending out money and that takes time. But we were told to put in our information to avoid having to wait till next year so we did what was asked of us. And we still have to wait? It is what it is, they don’t care that they didn’t do what they said. It’ll be the same thing next year, somehow we will have waited to long or didn’t do this or didn’t do that. We won’t get it.

  41. Is there info on how to actually claim the missing money amount in the 2020 tax filing?

    1. It can be claimed as a special credit. Most tax filing software like Turbotax will update their software to allow this to be claimed (like the EITC, CTC etc)

  42. Have 4 kid that I didn’t get the $500 I was expecting it for Bill’s and now I have to wait tell next year when I probably would not need it I need it now that makes no sense to have to wait that long

  43. Missing dependents stimulus, also. Filled out the required form for non-filers correctly. Is there any email address to contact IRS or government about the missing money?

    1. If your on ssi or ssdi gobto the ssa website and click on the top of the page where it says covid 19 updates. It will tell u what u need to know as far as ssi and ssdi people

    2. i have the same question i filled out the right info on the non filers i got my stimulus money but not my kids

  44. Same here…my 3 girls (11,13, and 14) and I get survivors benefits from my husbands passing. I filled out the non filers BEFORE the 4/22 deadline, was told it was “accepted” by the irs and yet NADA for my kids…I put my direct deposit info in correctly (I checked multiple times)…I do feel slightly better it’s not just me only bc maybe then they’ll fix it before NEXT YEAR!!! What a joke! “Oopsies! Our bad! We messed up BIG but just wait til next tax season n we promise you’ll get it then k?! …riiiiight…smh .. was it extra money? Yes. But at this point I wish I never thought it was coming (before the year 2021) bc it’s just making me more upset during an already super stressful time. If they were just gonna ignore tens of thousands of kids til next year, they shouldn’t have given all of us a false sense of security just to then basically tell us your beat til next year. Ugh, its just SO FRUSTRATING!!! I thought, “ok I’ll wait for the letter and I’ll be able to fix it” but nope! No recourse til NEXT TAX SEASON!!

    1. Yes they testified in court they were sending the “missing payments” to all the non filers by end of July! I saw one person say there’s is pending in the back as of Saturday, my aunt had a date online of the 5th but i haven’t heard about mine .. Google Rettig to send missing eip dependents payments end of July .. free different articles should come up. It’s crazy that the poorest of everyone”non tax filers” info got supposedly lost. Hopefully we all start seeing it m yes it’s “extra” money but some of us need it desperately! Good luck!

  45. Me and my 3 yr old son get ssi n i got my 1200 but he has not got his check n he is supposed to get it automatically cause he gets ssi n his income goes to my diredt express card n i got mines there but not his n i also put another bank account number and still nothing not even through the mail, what’s goin on what can i do to get his check, im my sons payee n my son didnt get nothing, how can i get his check all the check status say is the he was accepted and thats all, whats going on?

    1. me and my daughter also get ssi her payments go to my direct express card with my payments but i didnt get her stimulus payment and i filled out the non filer application
