Will I Get The New Unemployment Benefits Extension for PEUC and PUA Automatically and Extra $300 COVID Relief Stimulus Payment With a Remaining or Exhausted Claim Balance

This article was last updated on January 6

[Updated with new $900 billion COVID stimulus bill funding extensions] The short answer to the title of this article is Yes. But there are some constraints to be aware of in the recently approved $900 billion stimulus bill unemployment benefits extension as discussed below. Just to recap the legislation passed under the new stimulus bill includes the following unemployment benefits: Eleven more weeks of benefits under the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program and the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program. It also includes a $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) per week supplemental payment to anyone receiving unemployment benefits from any other unemployment program during the coverage period.

Under the PEUC program states can now pay up to 24 weeks of additional unemployment benefits to individuals who have qualified for, but exhausted regular state unemployment compensation (UC). They must also be able to work, available for work, and actively seeking work assuming no Coronavirus/COVID-19 restrictions. An individual is deemed to have exhausted benefits (per DOL guidance) when no further UC payments can be made under any federal or state law because the individual has received all available regular UC based on employment or wages during such individual’s base period; or the individual’s right to such regular UC has been terminated by reason of the expiration.

PUA provides UI benefits to gig workers and others not traditionally eligible for them. Under the law, the end of the period of applicability for the PUA program extends to those weeks of unemployment ending on or before March 14, 2021. For individuals on PUA who have not exhausted their benefit eligibility of up to 50 weeks, the program also provides for continuing benefits for eligible individuals for weeks of unemployment through April 5, 2021.

PUA and PEUC was initially only payable up to the week of unemployment ending before December 31, 2020 (so the last week would be week ending Dec 26th or Dec 27th), but has now been extended under the recent COVID relief bill to March 14th, 2021. Existing claimants will have until the week beginning April 5th, 2021 to exhaust any remaining balances.

Will I Need to Reapply for these benefits or are they automatically applied?

This will depend on state by state basis, but those who have an active claim or have exhausted their benefits will be eligible for the enhanced unemployment benefits discussed above. State UI agencies are responsible for reaching out but given the massive spike in claims this is likely to be a slow process. Some states are automatically extending benefits (even without ongoing certification) for those whose claims have a remaining balance or claims that have recently expired due to delays in passing the stimulus legislation. For those who have not claimed UI or had a claim expire several months ago, then you will likely have to file a new claim or reactivate your existing claim (will vary on a state by state basis). You can see this article for specific situations as to whether a claimant needs to take action or not to get the extended benefits. The table below shows key dates for the extended programs.

States have now also received detailed federal guidance (via the Department of Labor) on the implementation of the stimulus-law extensions for existing UI beneficiaries. Most states like New York, Florida and California have told people who are already collecting unemployment benefits and qualify for the PEUC or PUA extension that they don’t need to reapply to receive the additional $300 FPUC payment.

Notes to table:
1. Table does not include extended state benefits which could mean additional weeks of PUA in certain states (e.g California which includes up to 57 weeks)
2. You can only get PUA if you don't qualify for regular UI or PEUC, so those weeks need to be excluded from maximum weeks.
3. New Claimants or those who had exhausted benefits have to apply and get their claim approved for back dating to December 1st. Otherwise they only get the new 11 week maximum under the extension funding from December 27th, 2020

Note – Under current rules if you stop certifying for continued unemployment benefits, even for one week, your Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim becomes inactive. You must reopen your claim to request benefit payments. You can generally reopen your claim if it was filed within the last 52 weeks. If your benefit year has ended, you must file a new claim.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Extended State Benefits

Independent contractors, freelancers and gig workers who wouldn’t have qualified for claims before will be able to get the same UI benefits as those who qualify for the PEUC program. This act has loosened rules and eligibility considerably and includes:

  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) – Provides at least 50 weeks of benefits for freelance, gig and contract workers who would normally NOT have been eligible for state unemployment programs. Workers who get PUA are not concurrently eligible for PEUC or Extended State Unemployment benefits. Unemployment claims for PUA will be backdated and paid retroactively to the first week during the PUA period in which an employee was unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable and unavailable to work due to COVID-19
  • Extended State Unemployment Benefits (EB)— Provides an additional 13 additional weeks of benefits when a state is experiencing high unemployment. Some states have also enacted a voluntary program to pay up to 7 additional weeks (for a total of 20 weeks maximum) during periods of extremely high unemployment. Note that extended state benefits are only available after people have collected all regular Unemployment Insurance benefits as well as any PEUC benefits they were eligible for. But if the unemployment rates drops below high unemployment thresholds in a state, the EB benefit coverage weeks may drop or cease. See the current levels of EB benefits available by state.

Many applicants with exhausted claims are getting rejected when applying for additional UIC. In this situation state agencies are asking claimants to be patient and re-apply when their systems are updated. States are also obligated to reach out to applicants eligible under the new programs, but per the information above they are so far backlogged that this may take several weeks. For those already on unemployment benefits but close to exhausting their claim period, you will just have to wait and hope your state updates is systems to automatically extend your unemployment benefit coverage.

  1. Hello, I have been on PUA unemployment in Ohio since may of this year and as of November 2,2020 they put my account under review for fraud. I was asked to send in multiple documentation by November 11,2020 and I did all of that. I have continued filing every week since as I’m still out of work and have children who are doing school at home because of the numerous cases lately. My question is why is my account active and the hold payment saying no but I still haven’t gotten anything? I have 5 weeks filed with pending issues on them? I also have a remaining balance of $2,300 and if PUA is to end the 26th of this month what will happen to those funds? Will I receive them? Will I get those 5 payments? I’m so confused. I’ve never been on unemployment before so I’m completely clueless. Thanks for any advice or answers.

    1. Hi Ashleigh, I’m in California and I’m in the same boat, still no answers. Have you gotten any new information about this matter? I’m so confused and desperately searching for answers. Do you have any idea what happens to the remaining balance once funds expire at the end of the month?
Thank you and BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!!

    2. Hello I hope this comment help….. I’ve been on UI since July, was certifying on schedule no problems, then 7 weeks go by with no payments and no mail or email. I finally get someone on the phone and they say ” oh yeah looks like you answered so and so question wrong on the new questions for certification ( I clicked unemployed due to a disaster, but that’s for fires, I was only supposed to click COVID 19 only) let me fix that for you” and boom the next day I had the 7 weeks of missed payments. Since then I’ve gotten every payment on time. Tips for anyone else, call call call and call intill you not only get someone on the phone, but get someone who knows the ins and outs. Also BE FRIENDLY, dead serious, the nicer you are and the more you continue to say ” I really appreciate your time and help” the farther you will get. Good luck everyone

  2. I were currently living in Hawaii, and received UI benefits. I moved from Hawaii on 8/1/20, to the mainland and I exhauated mine UI regular on 10/17/20, and applied for PEUC. I still have not received payments as of 12/1/20. I feel an investigation should be done, I feel they are taking care of those that are still living in Hawaii, this is now going on the 8th week that I’m still waiting. And I still process my bi- weekly claims.

  3. Hi there.
I have been getting money thru my PUA claim which says it ends on 12/26/2020, but I will still have a balance of over $17,000 in there! I didn’t start getting my benefits until June 13, 2020, so I am wondering if:
    1. Will I get all if my remaining PUA $$ despite it saying it ends 12/26/20?
    2. Do I have to call or start a new claim backdated to 4/1/2020 as I was out of work due to COVID then too, but forgot to claim those couple months?
    3. Will I get some sort of extension link once 12/26/20 comes around?
    4. Is it best to try and call, and do you have to ask for a “Tier 3” rep, rather than the UI reps that answer your call 1st? It seems like the UI reps that answer first never have any specific answers, esp related to anyone’s specific claim.
Thanks for your help. I am very stressed and live in WA state. No jobs in the field I work in so I dont know what to do??

    1. Also wondering. My claim year ends 12/26/2020. And I will have over $4,500 dollars left. What happens to it?

      1. Me as well I have a balance of over 4,000 don’t know what’s going to happen? Will I get the rest of the money ?

        1. In short, no.
Remaining balance will NOT be paid out for the weeks after 12/26/2020 unless Congress passes an extension. Pandemic Assistance Period (PAP) is from 2/2/2020-12/26/2020 as of now so if you have a balance, forgot to or didn’t claim any weeks in PAP and are entitled/eligible for those weeks, then you’ll be able to get backdated payments (back pay).

  4. I live in FL. I am receiving UC for the 12 weeks that our state allows (I am grateful, but I still think giving only 12 weeks is a joke).
I lost my job on 8/14/20 and I have only one week left to claim. So I will be at a $0 balance on 11/26/20.
Am I eligible for any other benefits once this runs out? Because I’m starting to stress tremendously, I do not have a job yet, and I have been looking and applying with no luck. I did NOT lose my job due to Covid-19. So that is where my concern comes in as far as eligibility for any extended benefits.
It appears that I might be eligible for PEUC after reading the requirements. If so, will they retroactive those payments and allow for the 13 weeks of extended benefits? Or, if I qualify, week they only allow for me to receive payments up until 12/26/20 (the expiration date on PEUC)?

  5. It says I qualify for the PEUC. I started this after I exhausted my normal benefits. Ive waited 3 months and still I have received nothing. I cant get ahold of anyone on Nevada’s site. Naturally they lie about
“visiting the site for faster service” as the site shows little to nothing.
Then I read in the Las Vegas Journal that thousands are receiving these benefits meanwhile Im over here waiting.
Can anyone in Las Vegas Nevada help?

  6. Mine says when I file each week insufficient wage claim and when I go to my info screen says I’m inactive but I still have a balance of like $1,300 it says so I’m confused and the last six weeks say insufficient wage claim idk what I’m supposed to do? Thanks!

  7. So I just received my final payment for my UI (benefit year has not ended yet), on the same page it states I have PEUC funds available. Will I begin receiving these starting next week? There is also a open PUA claim available, I am not sure which claim will be utilized first.

    Thanks a lot.

    1. Hi Did you receive your PEUC and how long did it took once your UI balance went to 0?

    2. You must exhaust or be not entitled for UI, PEUC, EB first (in that order) before you can receive funds from PUA. If a program ends before your balance goes to zero, this is considered exhausting that specific program.

  8. Maine- If my claim period ended November 1st, why do I still have $2200 balance in my account?

  9. I have exhausted all available unemployment benefits 26 weeks (Reg UI), 13 weeks (PEUC) and 20 weeks FED-ED extension. I am still looking/applying for job, what is my next option in terms of any Unemployment assistance. Thank you very much for your time.
    EDD California

    1. I’m in a similar situation but just finished my last claim for the PEUC in Cali. and waiting now for that payment, and also hope to get some kind of notice or message from EDD about a FedEd extension since it seems like I should get the 20 week extension, next. Did they notify you somehow or did you have to call them to get it? I read on EDD website that after you exhaust you regular EDD 26 weeks, and then PEUC +13 weeks, AND then the Fed Ed +20 weeks, then they can file a PUA claim for you if there is still money from the Fed to fund that program. I wanna say that I heard PUA is ending this month– Dec. 26, 2020. Right? So unless the Fed extends the PUA, then maybe you have no funds left. I believe it is the PUA that is getting hit with all the fraud claims from crooks using fake ID. So. That’s not good.

    2. Danilo, I think your last hope is for EDD to open a PUA for you if that program continues.
Can I ask you a question: did Cali EDD notify you about the FedEd 20 weeks, or how did you get on that? I just filed my last week claim on the PEUC (after getting all 26 weeks of Regular UI); so it seems like I should qualify for the FedEd next but have got no notice from them, although I just filed my final PEUC week claim today. I am guessing when they pay that final week in the next few days, then maybe that triggers them to put me over onto FedEd? So far, no notices or messages about it. What was your experience? Jamb in Cali.

      1. Beware that PUA (as of now, before extension) is up to 39 weeks including any weeks that you receive UI and EB (PEUC is excluded) during the Pandemic Assistance Period from 2/2 to 12/26. Depending on the state and the time you’ve been on unemployment, you may not even have any PUA weeks available before you start filing for PUA.

  10. I live in Florida have run out of 12 week unemployment. I still have not recieved the extended 13 week unemployment despite calling unemployment multiple times. What can I do?

  11. I’m curious I’m gonna start getting peua the 13 week ext. Do I get the $600 extra benefit if I had already got that with my Regular Ui?

    1. FPUC $600 ran from March to July 25 and LWAP $300 ran from 8/1 to 9/5. You’ll get these supplements only if you’re claiming those weeks regardless of what program you’re on (UI/PEUC/EB).

  12. Tennessee- I exhausted my regular 26 week unemployment benifits on the first week of September. I was able to reapply as an exhaustee claim and got a monetary determination for the 13 week extension (peuc). However it has been almost a month of waiting with “in progress” and no change to the status (under review). Has anyone been through this? Did anyone eventually get approved/receive payments?

    1. I know this response may not help, but I am in the same boat. I waited after the 21 days. Called and they sent it for adjudication review. Its been a week and it is still pending. Not sure how long after the review it will take to be approved. Still in a waiting period. Best of luck to the both of us. I called the local American Job Center if that helps. I was able to get someone quicker to send it for review.

      1. Thank you for your reply!! I hope it goes through soon. I was able to speak to a representative on 10/16 and I was told that they would “escalate” the process. It has been almost 6 weeks now since I submitted the application, this wait is ridiculous.Good luck to you!

    2. I applied for the 13 week extension at the end of September. Mine still says “in review”. I have received nothing and it has been like 9 weeks. This is in Tennessee.

  13. Can anyone help me?? I was on regular ui since April 2020 I just filed my last check on last Sunday I was told to file a new claim to get the 13 week extension so I waited until Monday till my balance said zero. Now when I get on my account summary it has all my reg ui stuff but my balance says 0 and my bye date changed to the day I filed for my extension I’m freaking out can anyone help me I don’t understand I was told I would for sure get the 13 week extension and there is no getting ahold of a representative I have called everyday for two months. I live in Ky..

      1. Me too. I got 1300 left but it still says 0 everyweek I claim… it’s been 3 weeks now..

  14. I’m from Kentucky. My regular unemployment is about to stop in a few weeks. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to receive the extension, or do they do it automatically once balance hits 0? Hopefully someone can help me I feel stuck!

  15. I have been waiting for my claim to be released since june 30, 2020 and my current claims are saying processing without payment date. I also have a Code 1 issue on my dashboard which I just found out today what it means.(Abusive Language ) I never put that in my claim nor do I use such words , can some one tell me how can I fix this issue so that my claims can be release.
    Thank you

  16. My regular Massachusetts UI benefits exhausted 09/09/20 and I received this message -> “Your benefit claim balance is now $0.00. To view benefit request history, go to the “Weeks Claimed” page. ” <- however I have not received any PEUC or EB application links since my benefits expired asking me to extend my claims. I read where people were automatically getting "PEUC 1.0" but I have yet to see this.. Has anyone experienced this? What should I do?

    1. John,
I’ll be in the same boat as you come November. Called UI and they said it would be automatic, have you checked your “My Inbox” to see if they sent you any documentation? Make sure not to go in and check banking info as that resets the system and adds another 10 days. Still not sure if the PEUC gives a complete 13 weeks or it stops in December as this article indicates. In your case I would call DUA to speed up the process, it’s the quickest way.All the best.

      1. My benefits exhausted and my benefit year expired at the same time. I’ve called a couple times and got mixed answers if I should file a new claim or wait for extension. Currently, one week of extension was paid out and the other has been pending for over a week. Any opinion?

        1. On the Ma website it states “If the UI claim has expired, a claimant must file a new regular UI claim prior to filing for PEUC. If the claimant is monetarily eligible on the new UI claim, regardless of the benefit rate amount, the claimant will receive benefits from the new claim. If the claimant is not monetarily eligible on the new claim, the claimant will be eligible for PEUC on the prior claim and UI Online will automatically implement that.” I would file a new claim and continue to request extensions.

        2. Thank you so much for this info. In 2018 I was laid off and was able to only find part time work April 2019. This is why I’ve been able to get reduced unemployment. But now that I’ll be filing a new claim, will this be against my current part time employer? I don’t want to do anything to upset them

  17. Okay question y’all. I live in NV and have been receiving UI since May 2020. I filed my weekly claim and it shows that by tomorrow I will only receive $12.00 which is the remaining funds from my regular UI claim. It does however show the EUC 13 weeks being now in the ‘Open’ status. My question is, why wouldn’t it pay me my full weekly benefit amount by using the remaining $12.00 plus funds from the now open EUC funds? Do I have to wait another week to get a full benefit amount? Can’t reach anyone to ask either. Stressed! We all are!

    1. As I understand it, if you have finished your 26 weeks or monies are exhausted (one or the other has to completely end before the SEB will kick in), and are next going to be paid by State Extended Benefits going forward that is being paid out of a federally funded monies and not by your quarterly amounts, it will however be the same amount you were already qualified for, but will not start until your first one has fully completed.
“File your claim online at ui.nv.gov Page 1 of 3 State Extended Benefits (SEB) FAQ’s Last Update: 07/01/2020 Unemployed claimants who have exhausted their regular state Unemployment Insurance(UI) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) Benefits may now be eligible for State Extended Benefits (SEB). Nevada’s 13-week average Insured Unemployment rate is currently 19.5% which by law activates a state and federal program to provide additional extended benefits to qualifying unemployed workers. While these benefits were originally triggered on May 3, with claimants beginning to exhaust PEUC benefits, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation wants to remind claimants of this additional potential benefit eligibility. Claimants who have an established unemployment claim and have exhausted all regular state UI benefits and all federal PEUC benefits, could be eligible for State Extended Benefit (SEB).The following information is important SEB information.
What is the State Extended Benefits (SEB) program? The State Extended Benefits (SEB) program is a temporary program that provides up to 13 weeks of 100% federally funded benefits to claimants who have exhausted their UI and PEUC benefits. Claimants whose UI benefit year ended after May 3, 2020 are eligible for SEB benefits provided a new UI benefit year eligibility cannot be established. Claimants will need to be able and available to seek or accept work once restrictions have been lifted due the COVID-19 provisions.”

      1. Thank you so. Much for the help. So I take it since the EUC says open on my homepage that I don’t need to do anything additional right. Just keep filing my weekly claim? This stinks, now my auto insurance is going to lapse since I’m only getting $12.00 this week and because Nevada decided to wait til the last minute to file for the Additional $300 Fema funds. NV needs to get it together ASAP. So close to being homeless and without a vehicle

        1. As far as I understand it, there is to be a button under the SmartLinks (which is where the file weekly claim is) that is supposed to say “Apply for State Extended Benefits” when it switches over. I’m not sure if yours says it’s already open, I would say if that link is there at filing time you should probably click on that link, but if it just let’s you file your weekly claim just do that, otherwise unfortunately any other info will probably be a call to them. I will be in the same boat after this week cuz my 26 weeks will end this week and I will have a balance of over $2000 and not sure if it keeps going till it runs out or just stops at the 26 week mark (and then where does that money go, you know). But if it just ends (cuz 26 weeks) I will have to deal with the extended as well, cuz I did get the letter from them telling me I was potentially eligible for extended benefits for the 13 extra weeks but not sure when that button will show up or if it will say extended is open like yours, so up in the air for me right now. After you file this week can you please let me know what process you end up going through so I know what to do when it’s my turn, I would appreciate it here (just reply here). Like you I’m financially in trouble too and have to have surgery so all this mess has made my situation worse, and yeah our state officials really messed this up, they knew before the executive order was even given that our state had to get money from Fema to even pay out our unemployment cuz they didn’t have enough money, but not only did they not apply then, they waited till all the other states applied and at least 11 states had already gotten their money and started paying out their people before our state even applied, and Sisolak finally signed the order on Aug. 25th (LATE LATE) and the DETR didn’t even bother to send it into Fema till Sept. 2nd (EXTREMELY LATE) after the other disasters happened so there wouldn’t be any money left for us. And the whole time the Detr and Sisolak did not say one word to us about all of this and just let this happen to us and is still letting this happen to us, and the money is supposed to be retro-active back till Aug. 1st, but they only get money to pay 3 weeks, IF/by the time we would get any money to help us eat, not get evicted, pay our bills, etc. from no fault of our own the next set of any monies will be gone again, and he won’t apply till the 3 weeks is over AGAIN and it will be another 2 months in between getting any other
money if there is any left (certainly not enough for retro monies), and the DETR say their not setting the system up for giving out the money until they receive it (which will take another 3 weeks) cuz their too lazy to set it up now before the money comes so it would be ready to go. SISOLAK AND DETR HAVE LET EVERYONE DEALING WITH THIS DOWN, AND CAUSING STARVATION AND HOMELESSNESS THEMSELVES, THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US ONE BIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I’M SURE THEY ARE EATING AND LIVING JUST FINE, UNLIKE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN NEVADA AREN’T AT THIS POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry just had to get that out!

      2. I applied for the second time and now it’s going to run out and I still haven’t found a job ,can I apply again for the third time?

    2. Brooke, I also live in Nevada (Vegas). My UI just finished last week with a partial payment, but my EUC claim still says open with a remaining balance. Will it automatically start this week, or, do I need to do something? Are we both in the same boat?

    3. I started getting unemployment in April, and then after my 26 wks ran out I started the Pandemic unemployment. As of today I have $250 in my benefits claim balance…but the Benefits Year End has been extended until 3/13/21. My question is will my unemployment end after I do my claim next week, and use the last $250…or will they put more money in my “benefit claim balance”….

      ANYONE KNOW???

  18. Hello, in 2 weeks my 26 weeks for the state of Nevada will end, but I will still have a balance of approx. $2000. I have received a letter that says I may potentially be eligible for 13 extended benefits. So my questions are does my claim keep going till the money runs out or when the 26 weeks run out (which is my states maximum week benefit)? And if it ends at 26 weeks, what happens to my remaining balance? And does the button for State Extended Benefits appear under the SmartLinks itself? Or do I have to contact them? And if so at what point do I contact them, when the 26 weeks end or like the week before, etc? Help Thank You!

    1. Hello Laurie, did you get an answer to your question? I am in the same boat as you and am confused as what to do since I will have a balance of over $5000.00, reapply or continue to file until the money runs out.

    2. Hi Laurie, Im in the same boat as you in Tn, I reached my 26 weeks, with a balance of 727…..what happened in your situation?

  19. Hey I’m a little confused … I received unemployment in 2019 not to sure on how many weeks but my claim expired 5/3/2020 I was told I qualify for extended unemployment I started certify benefits in May & in August they sent me a whole deposit of back pay from like 12-13 weeks … my benefits say 0 & my claim expired and it still lets me certify benefits what does this mean? Does it automatically go to PUA ? Or was the extended benefits from 2019 extended more due to pandemic …

  20. This is all confusing, I use to work for unemployment and it was where when one benefit exhaust another one would kick in . I’m in Florida , My PUA exhausted the week before July 25, and I claimed my last two weeks only got payed for one week and additional $600. I did not get PeUC or any extensions even though the initial letter said I would get up to 39 weeks. That did not happen. You can’t talk to no one or get any responses, so I reapplies and it says not registered . I still am not working and did not get any additional weeks as I have read some people are getting.

When I lost my job last August 2019 I never got an additional $600 from federal some how did people get that because I didn’t. I need all I can get. Anyone have any suggestions?

    1. How did you exhaust your PUA that early? When did you start claiming PUA?

FPUC $600 supplement ran from March to July 25 so I’m not sure what you mean by you never received it since you lost your job in 2019.

  21. I have a question please someone tell me something. I filed a regular hi claim back months ago and was told i was monetary ineligible so I thought i had maybe enter some information wrong so I did a redetermination of wages and have sent several emails but no response except it’s under review. How can i just file for the PUA benifits since I am self employed and. still not back to work. Please help me out

  22. Hello I’m from pennsylvania, I filed For unemployment in March and collected for a few months . I got Called back to work in June and ended up working for an entire month. Than my job closed permanently. I began to file my biweekly claims again. But after the first week I claimed I got nothing. So I reopened My claim. Did I do This correct? I just Filed my bi weekly claim this past sunday

    1. I got a letter saying that I was eligible for the peu benefits. But my balance still says zero do I keep filing. Anyway it says zero

  23. I still have a call back date which is every 2 weeks. My regular UI ran out before July and they stopped giving me PUA the end of June. Since I am still given a call back date, I am active unemployment so shouldn’t I got the cares act unemployment till the end of July.

  24. My benefits were exhausted first couple days of june 2020. Got a letter june 10 2020saying i qualified for the 13 week extension . My claim balance has been $0 this whole time and i have been reopening my claim every week since with nothing happening . It always just says your request to reopen your claim has been received . Allll week til sunday rolls around again. I cant certify, doesnt even give me notifications to. My claim year is still valid til jan 2021. So the extension hasnt taken effect or anything . And its been 2 months since ive received any payment. What now?

    1. i think their systom needs to update. but still file your weekly. if it says open it will take 48/72 hours. if its not open, you should call your ui phone number

    2. You still must request your weekly payments like before. Have you been requesting the payments?

  25. In Arizona I did NOT want to collect any unemployment because my last employer was amazon and I’ve read where they will fight tooth and nail and also at time bring in lawyers but Kia caught fire, a month later this virus occurs uhm I was fired from amazon due to the teenager shifts that a full time father of a 13 year old with add issues and needs a parent there to make sure she’s doing her work! This all fell on me as soon as I started at amazon so after four months I attempted to start a different shift but since I started at the temp agency for amazon I got onto amazon the last month so I didn’t have enough time working with them to be able to have that kind of requests so I was tired literally every day I didn’t have enough time out the day to start a new job like they place drains the life outta ya so they decided after me having to call out as well for my child that they sent a professional letter thru email that I was voluntarily fired uhmmm I did volunteer for that but ok so I attanepted afterwards to work for them again cuz I saw several others when I work their get hired back after walking out the dang job! Plus I had a friend who worked for them a while and was friends with human resource people but as soon as I was to start they would send an email saying I’m not eligible this happened TWICE and they didn’t know why and would make excuses when I would ask why not, so last month filed unemployment ohhhh surprisingly a good amount so I was relieved to be able to have some money for me my daughter. D some bills I kept being reminded everywhere that the extra benefit was going to end this week!!! I heard of people who filed months ago and quit their job and never got bothered by unemployment even some whom cut peoples grass for money under the table but spent the day doing bad things and never got harassed either and collected thousands I overheard by this person so I was like ok I don’t feel that bad plus they were picking out of my old case I had last year but somehow my case expired last week I was notified online so I called them one rep told me oh just file another case just as long as everything is the same and nothing new or if you are still not working you will get your payment and you won’t have a waiting week, money came the next day I kept feeling like they are going to try and invest with others money and hopefully not mines! Just one more week like hopefully they won’t bug, I read in another state one person mention on social media him and his crew that became unemployed due to their company closing down ended up having to pay back! I got nervous and kept my acct but it was ok! Till Sunday I filed my claim and Monday I F****#! See a notification saying their is an active issue! Ugh so I call and like a ton of times cuz they won’t pick up and I spoke to a rep she’s like oh lemme talk to my supervisor gets back on and tells me he said I needed to file ANOTHER claim! So she updated for me without my consent I was like uhhh ok, she said the money should be released the next day, got off the phone checked my acct and I needed to reset my pin I was like what!? So I did that the next day and waited and still no payment I call a ton of times then this rep tells me I need to file a new claim and that my payment should be released next week with the extra benefit if we file before Friday, so I was like ok so he asks me questions that the weekly claims usually asks us, I didn’t believe him when I hung up like I didn’t think his demeanor was 100% so I called back and called back each time being hung up I didn’t want 5 or 6 to come and get hung up on so finally an older guy answers he asks me questions like he didn’t understand why all of this happened so then he sees that my case was sent to an adjudicator and wasn’t sure why no rep has told me and Apologized on their behalf, my jaw dropped I was boiling, I was like their ya go!!! I knew they would make an excuse to not pay the dang extra money this week even though we ended this a week earlier then some states I assume! And I said I bet others had this issue as well so that way they could keep a certain percentage and I bet they harassed the working class! I ended up hanging up on this guy while he was messaging his supervisor asking about the case, he called back tho and thought it happened on accident he was very oroffesional and also mentioned he spoke with the adjudicator to get in touch with me he said it could take 7-21 days or maybe longer cuz of everyone I said WOW so if I somehow get it I get the back pay but I bet minus the extra benefit uhmmm and I have to stress this whole time in the meantime like if this was the case and they actually were not trying to assist the public because mostly half of us probably will get approved for unemployment on a normal basis but I thought oh ok with covid a lot has shut down leaving people without work but the way they are handling it I could only assume it is like nothing has changed since the time ran up so they are being Uncle Scrooge with tax payers money, yes I know it’s the employers insurance but what about the extension!!??? Was that not the other benefit If we were not qualified for regular unemployment? They are totally ignoring that given I was sent a paper stating I was approved for that and saw they placed 3,000 in my case but then when I spoke to the rep and she updated it the next day it was at 5,000 i can almost guarantee if the adjudicator speaks to amazon they are going to say what greedy companies are assigned to say! Uhm so I will be denied immediately but they will still call me speak to me as if they are an insurance adjuster ask questions in a demanding way uhm I have to speak with yes or no and know names of people and go into detail! If what they said and I said add up plus if my reason for being let go is good enough they will grant me the little payments weekly! As a citizen and a dang tax payer always working every year and mostly every month it’s crazy that they couldn’t pay the last payment at the very least then start Behaving this way!!! Or perhaps deny me at first so that way I could know to start pawning belongings and asking relatives for some money to pay bills ahead of time! Yet here I am stressing every day now thanks to greedy Phoenix,az u employment………I feel for y’all that this happened to as well, and sorry this is so long! Haha but gotta explain myself.

  26. Hi there,
I was laid off in May 2018. I was pregnant at the time so I was able to spread my time between severance, disability and unemployment. I found a part time job in April 2019 so I was able to receive reduced unemployment which is now expired. I’ve had 6 interviews for a full time job and no luck. My question is- when I go to the certify screen it tells me that my claim has expired and to file a new claim. Below that, I also have the “certify for weeks” submission window. What will happen to the balance I have left over in the weeks to certify if I file a new claim? Should I wait until I’ve exhausted all the balance? Or will it roll into the new claim balance? Basically my claim expired but since I’ve been collecting so little every two weeks since I work part time, I still have a balance and I don’t want to lose that.
    Thank you for your input!

    1. If your claim has has expired you will have to file again, which may impact your claim balance based on the assessment your state UI agency undertakes.

      1. Thank you, I will continue to certify for the weeks left/available and then file the new claim.

  27. Texas here – in January of 2019 I was in a major car accident, no fault of my own. Due to my injuries I missed a lot of work and was let go. I filed a claim with unemployment in 4/2019. I received 26 weeks of benefits. Keep in mind in the last 10 years my annual salary was over $120,000. I am a single parent with 2 small children. I received a total of $13,000 for 26 weeks. I have exhausted all my savings and retirement. After 8 months of looking for a job covid -19 hit, I was in the final stages of the hiring process and would have made about what my previous salary was. Covid hit instinct hiring freeze. In May I received a letter from Texas unemployment stating I was eligible for the 13 week extension. I received 8 weeks and the my weekly claims started to reflect ineligible, but my balance has $2500 remaining. I called Texas unemployment 387 time July 3, 2020 at 7:00am. Someone answered and transferred me to tier 2, I waited on hold for 3 hours and 17 minutes. When I got a representative she was as helpful as I honestly think she could be. She said my original claim from 4/2019 has expired and I needed to file a new claim. I honestly just lost it. I wasn’t rude I just started crying. The woman so kind. She listen to my entire story just as I have present it above. Then she re-filed my claim for me while I wait on the phone. It took 45 minutes because she really wanted it to be right. She advised I keep filing my weekly claim. I asked her I would receive the remaining amount from my first claim, she wasn’t sure. I asked her when my new claim would start to pay again she didn’t know. I have lost my life savings, my retirement, my house, and had to file bankruptcy. I’m not sure what’s next but at this point I’m like everyone else who has a story. Still haven’t received a penny

  28. Need assistance unemployment denied due to insufficent funds in base period, exhausted benefits in 2019 may-october was employed job cut due to covid 19, earned roughly $16.5k from jan-june

  29. Hello everyone i am from Utah and have some questions because i have been unable to recieve any assistance from local Unemployment office, so 2019 i fell on hard times and was on unemployment from may -october 2019 i exhausted my benefit, i returned to work first of the Year to a career i was loving making the best money i have ever made, just for my job to be cut 3months later in april due to covid 19, we where getting a severance pay until june i applied for traditional unemployment and was denied due to insufficent earnings in base period. i made roughly 16k this year from jan-june, do i qualify for the PUA assistance, i am not longer recieving a income here in Utah and have been unable to find suitable work. please reply thank you.

    1. The way I understand it, yes because the virus affected your job. You should be entitled to get it. Apply and see what they say. On line.

    2. Yes, you should be able to qualify for PUA apply ASAP, you may get back pay from the last week you worked and onward. That would be the minimum you qualify based on your previous work history. For example like $119.00 minimum weekly or more plus the $600 FPUC also applies automatically weekly. You will have to file your weekly claim after the application is done and claims, also for any previous weeks there online when you file your first weekly claim to ensure to get that back pay. That’s quite a few weeks to claim at first but worth it to get your back pay if possible.

  30. I am in Virginia. I have received state plus $600 federal for 12 weeks. My maximum benefit amount has been exhausted/0 balance. Do I still file my weekly claim? Do I have to start a new claim?
Will I automatically receive the state and federal 13 week extension? The initial letter states my state will expire after 12 weeks, but will receive an extra $600 per week through 7/25/2020. What does all this mean? tia

    1. Hi Jack,
Same for me (I’m in CA). Late last week I went to the website and logged in and I stated “check back to certify after 7/12”. Yesterday I received a letter from EDD saying an extension for 13 weeks would continue. As far as the additional $600, who knows?
Check the website, I hope you it works out for you!

    2. To my understanding if it’s unemployment insurance that is exhausted because the 52 weeks of your claim year ended… you can file a new claim and receive something in the mail to return by fax or mail if you are qualified for more weeks of unemployment insurance. However one must file weekly claims during this time until approved again for payment. Otherwise, if you exhausted funds entirely you can apply for PUA and get those funds because regular UI is exhausted.

  31. I’m reading many situations that relate to my own. Basically, I am unemployed in TN, but my balance is zero this week and my claim year doesn’t end until 11/28/2020. Has anyone received any news since May of this year on the 13-week extension? I see on my state’s website they implemented it but I don’t see anywhere on the website where I can reapply for PUA. I was on a regular unemployment claim that restarted last January/February of this year. They were drawing from my balance on that. I was nervous about re-applying, but no one was replying back to my emails to them and I figured until my balance was zero, would I know if I could re-apply. The message I keep getting of course is I have to re-apply after my claim year ends on 11/28/2020- have anyone’s state updated their website? I see very little on my own state’s about re-applying for PUA extension and ironically the PUA information says if someone’s benefit year ends OR their balance is zero, can they re-apply. I don’t understand. UGH. Guess I will keep trying to call them to see how I can be on the 13-week extension. I am still waiting for a job to begin training.

    1. Lesie, just send one email asking for pua or peuc. Your extention will be automatically filed a few weeks after you exaust your current benifits.
I just sent one email and maybe called a few times per week. I never got a jold of any one like that but did get the extention several weeks later. They will back pay you. Also there are lots of gig jobs and new employment available you can apply and work and still get benifits as long as we report income.
      Your Welcome

      1. Who do I send the email to. My unemployment ran out last week and the system will not allow me to re apply. It keeps telling me that my money has run out and I cannot re apply until after my year ends in December 2020.

        1. You cannot reapply for benefits until your benefit year is over; however, you can apply for PUA or PEUC. Simply google PEUC and your state. On the site it will tell you whether your state is accepting applications from “any” of the cares act benefits. When you fill out the application for PEUC. you will be given an appication number (just write down for your records). continue to file your weekly claims and be patient. They are working thru a backlog (most states). Starting this Sunday you will need your unemployment PIN to file your weekly claim.

It’s really simple once they start accepting applications. Its a process though. You may have to wait a little time. Hope this helps!

        2. If you were on UI..? Have you tried to apply for the PUA after your funds exhausted in UI? Online states one may apply for PUA once UI is exhausted or denied, it may help to apply.

        3. You can’t reapply until your benefit year jas ended. To receive PUA or PEUC you are not reapplying for unemployment. Those are benefits. If your state has started the PEUC you can go on your state unemployment site and of you are able to receive funding at that time there will be a link to apply. You will receive a confirmation number and your benefits within a few weeks (maybe not all at once either). Hope this helps.

        4. For both Leslie and Kathy,
I was in the exact same situation. The site says to just login and re-apply, but the system doesn’t allow that. I never got a response to any email I sent nor the online issue form. Nor did anyone ever return the phone call when you leave a voice mail.
HOWEVER, I read that Saturday morning is a good time to call. So, I did. And, it worked! I called just after 8am when they open on weekends. After a long wait, someone finally answered. They were awesome and actually filed the extension for me as well back dated a weekly certification so I was caught up. They literally created a brand new claim, with a new start, dated to last the extra 13 weeks.
The site is still messed up, showing only my old claim EXCEPT for the Weekly Certification page. It shows the new certifications with a new claim number. AND, as of 15 minutes ago, the certification line shows a transaction number. So, it looks like I will finally be getting paid for something that was should have been seamless.
I would be VERY nervous to just send an email and hope that the extension eventually shows up. Nothing I have ever done (email, online issue form, Wage Dispute, voice mail for return calls) has EVER been answered over the course of 4 months. But, at least there is hope with that early weekend call.
          Good luck!

    2. i’m currently having the same troubles! my claim benefits exhausted two weeks ago and i still don’t have a job due to COVID. i get the same message everytime saying i cannot file until my benefit year ends, but i’ve had friends refile for the extension and it works for them. i’m still trying to get ahold of anyone from the TN DOL but nothing. i hope you’re able to file!

    3. The pua application is on the dashboard. It’s there on the site. I just did it. Scroll all the way down. It’s a series of questions is all.

  32. My Claim Status is Active. PUA Weekly Benefits is $198 with the Available Balance of $4950.00. Have a direct deposit but nothing been deposit into my account when should I be receiving the funds

    1. Hello, so when I had to apply for unemployment in mid March bc of everything shutting down, I had a seamless process, was accepted as a Covid claim, etc. and was anticipating my benefits depositing, my account would show my full balance, that I was accepted, and payment sent, but no deposit to my account. Your situation sounds similar, what the issue wound up being was that they had incorrectly entered by bank routing and account info so the payment was rejected and so while my claim tracker showed everything being fine w/ my claim, payment issued and pending do to further info needed or something. At the tiMe I was freaking out bc I couldn’t get ahold of anyone at ADOL, and I didn’t know what the issue was and I desperately needed the money. So after a month of spending everyday literally calling non stop from the time they open till they closed, only to get busy signals every time, I saw a comment from a guy on twitter saying he had a similar deal and he emailed the treasurer for the states unemployment and labor department, and within 24 hours it was resolved and his mo etc showed up in his account. So at this point I really coming unglued trying to get this sorted and trying to reach anyone to get help, we’ll sure enough I decided to try his advice on a whim. I found the treasurer’s email address for ADOL online, emailed her stating the issue, and how I had been advised to attempt contacting her to correct the account info and get it sorted, sure enough she responded with in an hour, told me to email her my correct routing and account info, And the following day she emailed to say it was fixed and I should receive my deposit without a few days, and the next day a deposit for several thousand direct deposited to my account (it was my whole months worth of payments). If I had not seen that guys post, I don’t know what would have happened bc this was I the spring when all hell was breaking lose with unemployment and no one could reach any one in any states and the only thing I had gotten was a note saying there was a issue with my information and they needed additional details and to watch for a letter that had been sent and it would explain what they needed, well I never did receive any letter from them about it. I just got lucky w/ this guys tweet and him responding to my message telling me what to do. I shudder to think of how things would have gone if I’d just say waiting for that letter that never came or trying to email or call everyday only to never get through. I had a friend drive 4 hours to Montgomery to resolve a similar issue with her claim bc you just couldn’t get any assistance if even the tinniest snag is hit while your claim is processing. AnywAy, I would recommend you try to see if this is the issue w/ yours and if you can email the treasure at your states dept. of labor to see if maybe you can get some help sorting it out that way. Good luck and sorry for the long response, just wanted to pay forward what that stranger did for me. Hope it helps.

    2. How long have you been waiting for them? Usually they come within a few days once everything is processed, I would double check that they have the correct routing and account info for your direct deposit. They miss enter that stuff a lot, my payments were delayed by a month bc of this and I know of many other folks that had the same thing happen. I would recommend you start there and check that first if it’s been more than a week or two without you recieving payments. Good luck

  33. My question is I have been recieving weekly benefit amount plus the $600 since April I live in alabama and after this week I will have exhausted all my funds so I’m trying to figure out do I need to go ahead right now and try to file again or do I need to wait until it gives me my last payment? Or do you think I will automatically still receive something please help me I’m going thru a divorce and I’m tryna get a car

    1. I live in CA and I Exhausted my regular benefit on March 14, 2020 and right now I am receiving PEUC extension but It’s about to run out. I was told by EDD, IF you don’t qualify for Fed-Ed extension, you can file a NEW claim when your benefit year ends.

I hope this helps you out and don’t worry, just pray that all will work out for you.

      1. Hi! I have a question for you…did the PEUC extension show up on the UI website or did you just receive a PEUC award letter and kept certifying online? Bc I got my PEUC extension award letter but the UI website shows nothing. Please let me know. Thank you!

        1. Hi Raquel, the same happened to me, where you able to certify online ?

    2. My claim year ended and also shows I exhausted benefits. Since I had an unemployment claim activated in May 2019 and was not approved at the time… when I was laid off this year February 2020 I opened my claim and was approved from April 2020 to May 2020. I did not receive a full 26?weeks of UI. My claim year ended May 23, 2020. I refiled my claim with unemployment insurance And have been filing weekly claims and am waiting now still for the payments to be approved. I’ve called Unemployment and the status is waiting on an adjudicator, I may still qualify for a weekly amount if approved. I seen on google that one can apply for PUA once regular unemployment insurance is exhausted, or if one is denied Unemployment insurance. So if you exhausted funds or are denied for any reason the PUA application is available. My friend was approved for PUA and has to file weekly claims… just like unemployment to get funds. I hope this information helps you

    3. Hello, I live in Bama too and I do know the state extension law has been triggered bc of the unemployment rate being over the threshold to cause it to become active. You may see if you would be able to qualify for any extended benefits through that? Hope that helps and good luck.

  34. hello, I applied in June 1 I bearly received a letter letting me know I qualified for PUA and the next day I recieved 10 letters in the mail to certify from weeks starting Feb 2, 2020 do I fill them all out out and mail them back , ive been waiting for my edd number but I never got mailed one ive called several times to see see if I could get my edd number but I still didn’t get iy so I cant complete my online account without my edd number .

    1. Hey Frances I just so happened to see your comment. I just figured this out today its a life saver. So I filed back on May 5th and haven’t received my number but did get the award letter and all those cert forms. I mailed those back but they were never put into the system. Here is a way to get your customer number so awesome. They were about to close my claim if I hadn’t done this to log I to my ui online account. So before 6:30pm pacific log in on the edd website and select the sdi claim basically u create a disability account selecting make a claim and fill out the info required. Don’t worry u aren’t apply for disability yet just making an account. At the end when u submit it tells you your customer number u need that they didn’t send to u. I hope that helps because I had to go through and certify for every week starting in March so good luck. Cheers

      1. Hi thank you so much for replying Im very happy you did, thank you so much im going to try that now because I need to certify as well but the post office is closed until Monday I was worried I wouldn’t be able to sent it out by the 5th which is tommoro, thank you very much im going to try the disability so I’m just creating the account not a claim right.

      2. Jason Mahoney,
omg thank you so much I followed your instructions, it really did work for me im beyond satisfied I tried everything you can possibly think of and what I was worried about was what happens if my certified mail letters would get lost or worst case scenario not logged in the system, im truly grateful I finally got my edd number. Your ausome

    2. Hello Frances,

You can call 855-327-7058 to get your EDD Account #.

      Thank You

      1. thank you so much I will try calling Ive called so many numbers and several times but nothing hopefully I can get through with this number

    3. Have you seen ” Apply for for Unemployment Extension Comp” below your Claimant Homepage? If do so, you should click the apply extension an answer necessary questions. When the eligibility appear in your homepage you can now file your weekly claims.

  35. I’ve been on unemployment for the longest I could and my benefit year expired Jan 15, 2020 and then lucky me, the clouds parted and I just happened to have found a job that was supposed to start Feb 11, even though I couldn’t seem to find one for an entire year. But then Covid-19 happened (ugh, the timing) and now I can’t work. But I did get to file for PUA because I don’t have enough wages to qualify me for regular unemployment. I didn’t even have to show my tax return. Lucky me again, because I don’t file tax returns but I’m getting PUA anyway because all I did was self certify and say I was starting a job on Feb 11 but couldn’t because of Covid-19, even though Covid-19 wasn’t an issue here in the US at that time. Can I backdate my claim to Feb 2 because I just realized I made a mistake and that’s when I was supposed to start working? Remember, that’s the job I suddenly found after being unemployed for the whole year and collecting the max time I could squeeze out of unemployment. When this claim expires do you think I’ll get an extension? I’m sure something Covid related will mess it up again, I just want to be prepared because they owe me! That’s MY money that my employer paid into the system!

  36. Hi guys please help. I had a 4,629 balance with $167 a week. I did my claim in March 2020, and was paid no problem until now! and I received a letter for extension and my balance was going to be 7,652! With $258 a week. I went to certify and it says I’m now on 3,200 claim balance with $258 a week on 2018 extension?! What? And my weeks were disqualified. Do I need to open a new PUEC claim? I called someone yesterday and she said someone would fix it or call me if more info is needed. But I got a letter saying it would go automatically

    1. Hi I spoke to Edd happened to me same , thing they toll me I’m getting 13 more weeks extension , Edd is going yo go if automatically, they are sending us a letter

      1. Hi i have this one week left on my UI claim in California will i automatically start getting the PUEC claim starting next week? i need to know im nervous and a single dad.

        1. Hi James,

I’m in California and when I was automatically extended benefits in April when I exhausted them. The site said, “You have claimed all payable benefits to you at this time and no extension is available.” It said this for what I thought was eons as bills started stacking up and I was going to be homeless again!? (But thats another story)
Finally around June 13th I received the back pay from April and my pandemic benefit which is less than usual because I’m on a school extension. Its a C.T.B approved program but don’t ask me what the acronym means because our system has just lost it for now.
Furthermore don’t let it scare you because I work seasonally at a huge food processing facility and we are laid off every year and exhaust our benefits every year! So if I’m not in school or working another gig between my seasonal position I can go thru some pretty hard times.
Your story caught my eye because I’m a Dad too. I don’t live with the baby mama but maybe one day for being a good dad and person to my little family I will earn it. Its not all that easy for some of us men in life and know that in your journey the struggle is only the beginning and eventually life will always balance my friend.
          Cheers to you for checking!

        2. EDD Automatically files it for you. My suggestion to you is to contact them through the website to make sure they do. when you login, it’s on the contact us tab and send them an email reminding them your balance has run out. They will send you a message when they filed your extension

        3. Yes James, they will automatically file it for you. Check your inbox, they will send you an email regarding PEUC extension, keep certifying for work search.

        4. James be sure to check your UI account online, they sent me a message about renewing my claim that i filled out online, and then the PEUC kicked it. But nothing they sent me ever mentioned “PEUC” per se. But it was for 13 weeks and I just filed for the last week of that. Hoping that they will put me onto FedEd next. Waiting for a notice, checking online, looking for mail. It’s a waiting game. If not, you must call in which takes forever I hear. Crossing my fingers for you. jamb

    2. Hey I have a question, so I’m on the last of my Benefits for the PUA I have 220$ left in my claim which is only one more payment but I was wondering if I will still continue to get the 600$ payment till the end of July?

      1. You do need $1 of regular state UI to get the state UI. Have you gotten the 13 week extension (for a total of 39 weeks in most states)? If you get this you can get the $600 for a longer period.

        1. Hey I am having same issue and got 13 weeks of extension, but the amount didn’t change to add up number and also the remaining balance is payment is for one more payment, before the end of july ,
          please assist

        2. So if I don’t have anymore benefits in my regular claim I won’t be able to get the 600$ Without the 220$ still till the end of July? Or does the 600$ stop before the end of July if your regular benefits run out?

        3. Yes I got the extension but I’m on the last payment of my actual benefits but I was wondering if I would still be Able to collect just the 600$ PUA benefits without my regular weekly benefits?

      2. Hi Joshua, it depends on your week certification, if you have a week certifying up to July 25,
you will still get the 600.

  37. I received my first payment through Pua in the beginning of may. Everything went smoothly with retroactive then I got another payment for the prior week but now I’m waiting on 3 weeks and Everytime I call they tell me they don’t know how long this verification process is going to take. Mean while I’m hurting bad I applied for food stamps they told me I’m not eligible because I’m on Pua but I’m not getting my payments because of delays i am so stressed out I can’t even order a freaking dam pizza.

    1. Hi

I have read if you are denied benefits to keep trying . It should get approved.

  38. Hi so i was wondering if i can still get the pass weeks of PEUC, since i only got the mail today about them extending my benefits. I just did my certifications and i saw that i only got the one for this week period.

    1. Hi Michael, just certify the weeks that are available online, check the payment status after 1 hour and check again if you have another week to certify, keep doing that until no more weeks are available to certify.

  39. Hello, I filed my California UI claim in October 2019 (claim periid would expire in October 2020). My last regular UI payment was in early May 2020 and EDD stated I had exhausted my benefits. I tried to contact EDD via telephone and email (unsuccessfully) re status of the federal extension. On 5/27/2020, I received an electronic message that the EDD was determining if claimants were eligible for the PEUC extension (13 weeks) and would send out letters in 1 to 2 weeks. Today (5/30/20) I logged onto my EDD account and was advised to certify for the prior 2 weeks. So the California EDD has apparently started implementing phase 1 of the PEUC extension. I hope this information helps. Thank you to everyone for sharing information.

    1. Did you receive $450/week for 13 weeks or $450+$600=$1,050/week for 13 weeks?

      1. $1,050.
$6,030 was in my account Last week for the retro. I was exhausted on 4/11.

        1. I was exhausted on 4/11 but no retro maybe something I did wrong only got one week $600…

    2. I got a letter stating I qualified for the PEUC and the two weeks of certification ending 04/04/2020 and 04/11/2020 was available to certify in my online account. I certified and it showed disqualification for those weeks. I don’t know why and what to do about it as I can’t get ahold of anyone. Should I Appeal or wait?

      1. I would call in repeatedly until you get someone. You didn’t say what state? I heard about a woman who called Calif EDD 600 times in 3 days and got through 12 times but only 3 of those times, got to a place where a human would talk to her. She eventually got helped. Good luck call call call. Maybe you just answered one of the questions wrong.

    3. Im in the same boat…waiting to hear back. and hoping that i get my extension. i had uneployment since nov.. and it went up at the end of june. so you didn’t do anything it was just there?

  40. I tried to apply for the PEUC in South Carolina. When I try to submit it I keep getting a SCUBI Error code. Anyone else had this problem?

    1. Hello again,
I just happened to look at my UI page (for what seemed like the hundredth time!), decided to login and BAM!, was able to certify for multiple weeks beginning mid March through 5/24!
My UI benefits had expired 2/20/20 with the year ending 8/20. I was losing hope….

Now lets just see when I will receive the funds.
Good luck, keep looking and hoping!

      1. Hi,

My benefit exhausted March 15, 2020 and my certification status is Disqualified. I did receive a notice in my inbox regarding the PEUC. It says to continue to certify, yet, I am unable to certify for benefits.
I’m hoping my status changes soon so I can look forward to finally start receiving payments.

  41. OK Listen up guys, I’ve been in here griping for over a month. I live in California and exhausted my benefits on 4/16. Today I was allowed to re open my claim, I got a text message to the site. I was either getting CTB or Pandemic because I had a CTB application in before the COVID19 started.

So I basically am receiving a 16 week CTB Extension of $4.200.00

  42. I live in CA. I ran out of my benifits on 5/9/20 and my claim is until 10/20/20. I have not been able to get in touch with Edd through the phone to apply for the 13 week extension PEUC. I still am currently unemployed but actively looking for work. I have bills coming up and have heard nothing from unemployment. I see people saying they will automatically apply these benefits but I have not received an email or any notification. Am I not eligible? Can someone please help me if they have any info on my case? Thank you in advance this is very frustrating being that I ran out of benefits during this coronavirus pandemic.

    1. Hi Joe,

I’m in CA… Exhausted my benefit on March 15, 2020. I have not received any payment since and unable to pay my rent or bills right now.

My claim certification status is Disqualified right now, but I just received a notification in my EDD inbox saying….

      DATE: 05/27/2020

Re: Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) Extension

You are potentially eligible for a Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) extension under the CARES Act of 2020. The PEUC extension provides an additional 13 weeks of UI benefits. If the EDD determines that you are not eligible for a subsequent valid UI claim, then the EDD will automatically file a PEUC extension on your last valid regular UI claim. You should receive a notice by mail within the next 10-14 business days. Continue to certify for benefits as weeks become available.

      Thank you,

Please find on EDD help box, type PEUC and the info below will appear.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) provides an additional 13 weeks of benefits if you’ve used all of your Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. To make benefits available as quickly as possible, we will be adding the extension in two phases:

      · Phase 1 – On May 27, we will start automatically filing PEUC extensions for those who used all benefits on claims that started on or after June 2, 2019. You will get a notice in the mail about 5-7 days after we file the extension. This notice will have instructions on certifying for extension benefit payments if you are still unemployed. Check the inbox of your UI OnlineSM account for updates.

      · Phase 2 – In early July, we will start mailing notices to those who used all their UI benefits after July 2018 who were not included in Phase 1. If you are still unemployed, you can apply for another UI claim in UI Online. We have to make sure you qualify for a new UI claim before we can file an extension.

      Hope this helps out.

    2. Hello,

My benefit ended in the first week of March and I was losing hope. Today, I got a text message from EDD telling me to check the update on UI website, then I was able to certify under the 13 week extension.

Perhaps you can wait a few more days and get a text message hopefully..

    3. They implemented two stages and I think you will be in the second stage. Go to edd.ca.gov/unemployment/text-alerts to view the dates in stage one and two. I would go look for you but afraid, I can’t find your comment again.

  43. I finally got an email today regarding the 13 week extension. Yay!! I hope all who have been waiting got theirs too.

  44. He I I’m in Tennessee and I have exhausted fund two weeks ago and started receiving the additional 600 the two weeks prior to exhausted benefits. As of now my end date is 12/21/2020 but my funds are exhausted and even though I received the additional payment and I certified every week after it says in process for 0 dollars state website says to refile my claim but there is no portal to refile in the web page JOBS4TN and neither can I file a new claim since my ssn is already active in my existing claim what do I need todo please help me someone here please I have called the hot like the office for three weeks now everyday back to back and get no where please someone give me Info

    1. I am in a similar situation and also live in TN, where my regular state UI benefits claim exhausted just a couple of weeks ago and it would not allow the weekly certification process to complete or so it appears so for two weeks I’ve been trying to contact someone about the extension. No there is not any link on jobs4tn site, but additionally it will not permit another claim to file until like the end of the year!! It’s crazy confusing plus I have not received any information on the mail.

    2. So did u get an andwer to all in this?
Im in the samd bost i have claimed zero balance weeks for 3 weeks but no deposits. Im going crazy

  45. Hi,
Thanks for the updates. I just checked my inbox and received this:

    “DATE: 05/27/2020

*My UI claim originated 8/2019 and ran out 2/20. Here’s hoping that relief is FINALLY COMING! We’ve all waited for what seems like forever! Wishing you all luck with this and good health! *

    1. I got the same notification in my inbox today. My claim originated 9/19 and ran out 4/20, and I was able to certify today for 2 out of the 7 weeks they owe me.

      1. Mark,

I was able to certify all weeks post dated up until this most recent week. The screen refreshed after the first 2 week certification; then allowed me to continue certifying two weeks at a time. you may want to check again. I went to my inbox and then back to home screen after each two week certification had been completed. At that point screen was refreshed and allowed next 2 week certification.

        Hope this helps!!

        1. Thanks Kaila! I was able to certify for all of the weeks, however my certification is still pending. We’re you already paid for your certifications or is yours still pending too? It’s been about a week so I’m getting concerned.

        2. Hi,
I was able to certify for 8 weeks as of last Friday. Only 4 of those weeks went directly into my checking account which I had previously set up. The other 4 went into B of A debit card. They said too many weeks were certified at once, hence the split deposits. Grateful to have received anything!

        3. Barbara,
It allowed me to do up to 8 weeks as well but it shows it as PAID which its not. Did they give you the full amount $450 plus the $600 total $1,050 weekly? Also how long did it take to receive your payment from the time you filed?

        4. Hi,
Once I filed for all 8 weeks, it showed some as paid ($450 + $600) the following business day on the EDD site, then a day or so later, the others showed as paid. 4 of the total 8 weeks went directly into my checking account while the other 4 went directly into the BofA EDD card. Let’s see how the next certify date goes which should be on 6/7 . Good luck!

  46. Hi everyone,

I’m posting what I saw on EDD site today..

My question is… EDD Rep Misfiled my claim. He filed a PUA claim and Denied me and I was told to Appeal. I do not qualify for PUA. Due to his mistake, my claim status is Disqualified. He was suppose to file a PEUC claim. Will EDD automatically DISREGARD the misfiled claim?? Does Anyone know?

    Thank you

    1. Hello, will you please provide the link to where you found this info on the EDD site? thank you

      1. Hi Kaila,

If you go to EDD site, you will see a blue box on lower right side, “EDD HELP Box, click it and it will open, type PEUC in the message box and the info will pop up. Also, check your inbox, cuz I finally got a message like the others above.

        Hope that helps.

        1. Thanks so much CK! Yep you are right–after checking my inbox all day, I finally received the PEUC notification :):) It definitely relieved some stress.

          Blessings to you

        2. Ck, I was also able to certify for weeks this morning! so hope you can too!

        3. Hi Kaila,

Thank you for the blessings…I really need it. I’m glad I was able to help you. Right now, my claim certification status says, Disqualified and I’m not able to certify for benefits so I am very concerned how it’s going affect me in getting my money and how soon. I’m in such despair not getting paid since March 15,2020.

  47. Hi, I am in CA… I Exhausted my benefit on March 15, 2020.

People who are unemployed, please know the difference which benefit you need to file. My claim was misfiled by EDD Rep and now it is delaying me to receive my payment. The EDD Rep filed a PUA claim and Denied me and I was told to Appeal. I do not qualify for PUA, I NEED PEUC benefit.

Right now, I am seeking assistance from my local State Senate Office to help me resolve my case.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) is for people
self-employed workers, freelancers, independent contractors, and part-time workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) is for people
who have exhausted their unemployment compensation benefits to receive up to 13 additional weeks of benefits, provided they “are able to work, available to work, and actively seeking work.”

  48. I’m in Texas, and I’ve exhausted my benefits back in February. To reapply for benefits I have to complete one year, my years comes in august 25… I have been calling in to teleserve to update my status’s every 2 week and still nothing . I have called in plenty of times to speak to someone and nothing I don’t know what else to do.

    1. I am in Florida with the same situation and I have documentation of calling the DEO every day for over 1 month and I get different answers from everyone. No one knows what they are doing. I had a link on my CONNECT on March 15 to reapply, which I did and was denied. I am not eligible for PUA since I have exhausted my Unemployment and cannot get a job due to the pandemic. Then Unemployment tells me I am not eligible for the $600.00 Cares money because I am not eligible for unemployment. Vicious circle of them not knowing their right from left hand. No one is willing to help. I even completed an application on PEGA and the claim number assigned to me they claim doesn’t belong to me. I told them it is not a Claimant ID, it is a Claim number that I completed an application.

    2. I am also in Texas, I just exhausted my benefits. I received an email on May 4th saying I was elegible for the 13 extra weeks but I never heard back from them. I make over 50 calls a day and my call wont go through

  49. I finally got through to a live person at EDD. I had read on a post here that someone said they called the number (833) 978-2511 and after hearing “Welcome” they press 9 and it would say “Thank you…..unable to take calls…” then after the 20th time it went to music and they were on hold for the next available person. I had to tweek her suggestion. Every time I entered 9 after hearing welcome, it would said, “Your call cannot be completed at this time.” So instead I listen to recording up to the point where it said to press 1 for English. So then right after hearing press 1 for English, I pressed 1 then I pressed 9 and it would go to the “Thank you….. unable. I kept doing this and on the 86th time I called in after press the 9 it went to music and from there to a live person. I got through at 7:50 pm. She filed my paperwork and said I would get a notice in the mail within a week to let me know if I qualify for the 13 week extension. My original claim ran out on 5/12/20 which was when my funds went to Zero. Side note the previous post about this said they got through just before 8pm also. Maybe less calls that late. About 25 out of my 86 calls were through out the day and all the rest were from about 6:30 pm until I got through at 7:50 pm, one right after another. Hope this info helps. Good luck.

  50. I have a question about the 13 week extension and why i was determined Not Eligible. I was let go of my job March of 2019 and filed for unemployment May 5th 2019- receiving benefits until December 2019 i believe (with the end date being May 2nd 2020). I was sent a notice saying i was eligible for the 13 week extension so as soon as the site let me reapply, i did. I think the date i applied for the extension was maybe May 7th? Anyways, i received a notice today saying that i was not eligible.
“The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has DISALLOWED the claimant’s application for unemployment compensation benefits dated 05/07/2020. The claimant did not have at least twenty qualifying weeks of employment that was subject to an unemployment compensation law or did not earn an average weekly wage of at least $269 before taxes during the base period 04/01/2019 to 03/31/2020, as required by Section 4141.01(R)(1) of the Ohio Revised Code. This decision is related to qualification for regular UC benefits.
The issue on the current claim is the same as was adjudicated in a prior benefit year and, therefore, cannot be re-litigated. A previously issued determination ruled the claimant’s separation from (Previous Employer) to be non-disqualifying.”

First off, can anyone explain to me what this even means?? If i was receiving UE benefits, how could i have the qualifying 20 weeks of employment? I want to appeal the decision but i’m not even sure what to say because i do not completely understand why the decision was made. Please, an help or advice would be greatly appreciated! I’ve already had to contact unemployment once and it took 3 full days waiting on hold to be told someone will contact me, which still has not happened.

  51. I was able to give my call back number and name, I then called three hours later and the rep I was to speak to hung up… Customer Service, it’s normal. There’s a company that’s contracted tjru the federal Government to help with the unemployment overflow of calls.

  52. I was Working part time and collecting partial benefits. My year of 52 weeks exhausted but I still have funds available.
Am I able to re-open a claim to collect the remaining amount even though it’s on my present employer?

  53. What if you were on a CTB extension and you exhausted all your benefits? Can you qualify for PUA? Because it tells me my claim expired and if I’m still unemployed to apply again. But what do I apply for regular benefits or pua I’m so confused. I have been unemployed since May of 2019 and got an extension in November 2019 and it ended last week my claim is at zero. I don’t know if I qualify they don’t answer the phone every time I call. It tells me to apply if I’m still unemployed but I don’t want to start the application without knowing exactly what to apply for.

  54. My benefits ran out earlier this year but NY informed me that I could continue to certify my weekly claim and I have been receiving my benefit. I am working part time so I only get a partial benefit each week. I work two days so I get half the benefit which also means it should last 26 extra weeks. That would be the normal 13 weeks spread out half each week for 26 weeks. My issue is because I am only getting a partial benefit the extension will go beyond my 52 week claim. I stopped working June 30, 2019. NY says I will need to file a new claim. 1. Will it be automatically approved to allow the full 13 week extension? 2. If not, will a new claim be approved because I am only working part-time under the CARES Act?

  55. My last payment was 2/2/20 and my benefit year ends on 7/25/20, I believe I am eligible for the extension but cant find anywhere to extend it. I haven’t been able to get ahold of anyone, I am running low on funds and am getting worried about paying bills. I am a single mom with little help, should I try the family one? What can I do? What numbers have worked for you guys in regards to being able to speak with someone? I haven’t received anything in the mail either.

    1. Hi Kendra,

If you exhausted benefits between 2/2/20 and 3/21/20 you are eligible for PUA, which they are already distributing benefits for. You would need to call EDD and apply for PUA over the phone, and I believe they can set you up to certify immediately (Make sure you are speaking to a Tier 2 Rep), otherwise you need to wait for them to send you paperwork to fill out. Anyone who exhausted benefits after 3/21/20 is in a separate program called PEUC and EDD will file extension automatically starting 5/27/20 (Yes payments are retroactive).

Please see below from CA EDD website:

If you have run out of benefits but you are still within the one year that your claim is good for, and your benefits

Scenario 1: Ran out before February 2, you are probably not eligible for PUA. (You would have to show that you are unemployed because of COVID-19.) You may be eligible for the federal 13-week extension. We will notify you about what to do.

Scenario 2: Were for weeks you spent unemployed between February 2 and March 21, we will send you a form to fill out to supply information not already in your claim. When you get the form, fill it out and return it.

Scenario 3: If you received your last payment for weeks you were unemployed on or after March 21 and are still within your benefit year, we will automatically extend your claim for 13 weeks. We will notify you that we have done that and when you can certify.

In your case, you would be scenario 2. I know it says you need to fill out and return the form when received, however you are also able to apply for PUA with a live agent.

Side note: Call the 833-978-2511 line, and immediately press 1 then 9. If you get the message asking you to call back, hang up and repeat until you are added to the hold queue. I always get through but you may have to dial them 30-40 times (or more) to get into the queue.

      1. Hi Mark

I hope you could help me.. Im in CA and I exhausted my benefit on March 15, 2020 and as of May 24, 2020, I have not received any payment and I am soo scared and worried that I can’t pay my rent and bills.

I called EDD and spoke with a EDD rep and the guy filed a PUA claim and processed it DENYING my claim without my knowledge or consent. I told him I was unable to go to job interviews due to stay at home order being enforced. He said that my reason was not directly affected by covid 19 and he denied me.

When I called EDD again and asked to cancel the claim so I can refile the PUA claim, I was told they can’t. All I can do is to wait for the mail to APPEAL the claim. Then as I waited, I received a letter from EDD stating “Notice of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Award”, Also, i received a certificate to certify so I filled it out and mailed it in. Then, I did receive the PUA Denial letter as well after the Award letter. During this time, EDD online certification was updated on my claim and I was able to certified online as well. Then, few hours later my claim said I was Dissqualified for the weeks ending 5/16 – 5/23/2020. I called EDD again, I was told again, I have to Appeal the PUA claim. I was also told, the “Notice of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Award” letter does not mean I was Approved. If I wasn’t approved, how come on my notification page on claim summary, it shows my claim balance amount total and weekly benefit amount of $167.00. Yet, I am dissqualified…im so confused….

I desperately need help, can you help me, what can I do to get paid ASAP.

        Thank you

      2. Mike, thanks for this info on the phone call. Today is Dec 20 2020. It’s a Sunday. At 3:15 in the afternoon I got through to someone using this method–on a Sunday afternoon! Wow!! So grateful.
I inquired about my FedEd extension, which I believe will follow my PEUC, since I just filed my final claim week on PEUC (and already got the 26 weeks of regular UI in Cali.) However, on my home page, the notice just says: Maximum Benefits Paid
You have received all benefits payable to you at this time. You cannot file another California Unemployment Insurance claim until your current benefit year ends.

Well it seems like that is a standard notice that gets posted when you file your last claim week. But it has not yet actually deposited into my BofA card yet, nor does it show on Payment History. However, the status on that week it says: Paid. Which means they are processing it.

The rep said that the Cali EDD will send out a notice to me in the mail, but that I may also see a message online about Fed Ed and to keep checking. He was really only able to tell me that it does not say Denied, which made me feel better. So I called too early. But now I can sleep better tonight.
Thank you! Jamb in Calif. 12/20/2020 3:48 PM pst.

  56. Hello all,
I finally got through to UI after 18 phone call attempts, was put on hold for 30 min, spoke with a rep who when looked me up and said “you have no identity issues” so now I will transfer you to a specialist”.
I waited on hold for another 25 minutes and finally spoke with a gal (both these rep’s were adept) who said I was eligible for PEUC (pandemic emergency unemp. compensation) since my benefits had expired 2/24/20. They saw no “holds or flags” from my previous claim.
Then she said there are 2 ways you will find out IF I will receive the benefit:
    1) you will receive a link on UI website (I’ve checked this daily for what seems like forever), or,
    2) a form will be mailed to me
They began mailing these out May 2nd (today is the 15th)
If nothing comes of these 2, “keep looking and hoping”. These if’s, hope’s, fingers crossed have gotten so, so OLD!

Wishing luck to all of you and to stay healthy!

  57. I have contacted Gov DeWine and Lt Gov Husted, about this very dilemma of trying to speak to someone or get answers about unemployment extension (repeated calls to the toll free number, and getting hung up on) since mine ran out in mid-March.
I go to the new PUA site, and cannot get past the 2 general questions.
There isn’t a site for EPUA (emergency assistance).
I have reached out to them twice, and I really hope they will respond with an answer!

  58. Luckily, I could speak with a live person yesterday after 10 times a call and 45 mins on hold, however, I’m still nervous and I cannot do anything until I get another appointment call from Edd today.

No idea what time they will call me today and I can feel anything is not easy in a life.

  59. I started getting unemployment insurance October of last year(2019) after I ETS the Army and just recently I was getting the extra pandemic insurance $600 weekly for about six weeks but noticed it was coming out of my claim balance but didn’t think nothing of it but now my claim balance is zero and I’m getting a notification that I can’t reapply for insurance till my year ends in October of this year(2020). I feel this is not correct and I can’t not get ahold of EDD customer service, what should be my next step?

    1. This same thing happened to me. I am having a real difficult time getting a hold of a representive

    2. Appeal online! DOL offices are not taking calls due to the high volume. Make sure you print your paperwork before you submit it. I had to do this and to my surprise it worked. Good luck!

      1. Theresa, mine started in July 2019 exhausted Jan 2020 then the pandemic. I was still unemployed. Had read not to worry if you were unemployed before pandemic and remain unemployed because of pandemic I would qualify. I was told by EDD Cust Svc that I qualified, today I received a letter of Denial. Who to i APPEAL to online for quicker response. Swear they don’t understand what they are doing, they are disqualifying because they are back logged. Not a good enough reason, right? Especially when told the opposite and I read online about it and of course didn’t save, didn’t print, have gone through history and cannot find.`

  60. I don’t even know how I was lucky I reopened my claim March 13th as I work as an event coordinator in a restaurant…..my claim year ends August 2020 as I opened last year August 2019. I was immediately given the $369 I was allowed for my weekly benefits along with the extra $600….per week. I have been lucky each claim period to receive benefits for biweekly claims which are continuing until August when my balance goes to zero….HOWEVER my husband has been waiting 6 weeks for his benefits…he received one week claim 159 and one $600 extra on his claim and all the others are still pending. We have written the gov and called a million times to the EDD with different suggestions using special numbers and nothing. He is 74 and on social security worked part time. We are struggling…..

  61. I got mine automatically I didn’t apply or do anything. It just added on to the normal 450

      1. I exhausted my California ui benefits on march 1, 2020. I was hired March 6, 2020 at The Cheesecake Factory Restaurant as line cook 2. March 18, 2020 when I reported to work I was informed that I had been furloughed. I keep signing into my ui benefits accounts and there is nothing there other than ‘you have exhausted all benefits for this claim year’. No links for PUA benefits no link for extension benefits. I have been using contact EDD kinks since April 6th. No reply other than automated ‘EDD has received your message’. Calling in says that the call center has been to busy to answer… basically

        1. I have this same issue…my benifit amount was exhausted the 2nd week of Feburary 2020 as I filed October 2019. I log into UI online but all it tells me is my benifits have been exhasted. No link to reopen, or any of the afore stated links. This has become ridiculous for the most advanced, wealthiest(world’s 5th largest economy is California the last time I checked)however it’s also one of the most mis-managed, partisan chest puffing political nightmares as well. Things shouldn’t be this difficult or complex at these times

        2. There is no doubt that EDD is intentionally avoiding this. An open claim already has all the needed info. We’re locked out.

        3. DOLs offices are not taking calls. If you need to appeal, do so online and remember to print before you submit. They will not send you any warning but eventually you’ll receive a response via UI. It took me about 2 weeks before I received a response in relations to what my benefit amounts were going to be. Good Luck!

        4. I’m in same boat my benefits exhausted march 8 and I have sent 6 messages with no reply

        5. You should see on your home page that you need to file. They put together Ui and pandemic . First you give all your personal and income related information. Once you finish Ui filing part, pandemic is coming.but I saw that in order to file pandemic, you should be laid off during the pandemic time or if you have to be at home because your kids at home etc. Start filing, you dont need to submit. If you can answer pandemic questions, you will be qualified or you can file only Ui. I was unemployed, there was no question that , I can fill, I was not able to find that job or I was affected by covid. I wasn’t able to get pandemic, but they send me a letter that I was awarded for ui. I certifeied, status is still pending for payment

        6. Because of the date you exhausted your benefits, I believe you fall into the next faze. July

  62. My benefit year ends 05/16/20. I have only used a 5 weeks of benefits, and still have a high claim balance. Does the 13 week extension apply to me when my benefit year ends in a week? Or am I obligated to file a new claim?

  63. Hi. I’m in California.
I received all my regular Edd benefit last week. But I still see benefit year will end 10/19/20 but benefit claim is $0 since I received all based on my payroll.

I messaged Edd if I can get 13 weeks federal pendemic assistances $600 weekly.
    They messaged me not exact.
“ You have $0 balance and receive all benefit. You can’t open a new claim until benefit year is ended”

    I’m very confused.

Is federal pendemic payment automatically added if Edd benefit Year is still valid with exhausted benefit amount?

    1. I’m in Ca. My benefits were exhausted 4/4/20. I’ve sooke with 4 different reps and they all tell me the same thing that there’s no plan for extension.

Yesterday I got papaer mail from EDD. It says that I am now required to show weekly work search.

Go home EDD , you’re drunk.

    2. Katt,

If you have exhausted your benefit, you have to call EDD and file a PUA claim. It is not automatically added to your benefits. If they tell you to file a NEW claim, that is WRONG, it is PUA claim that you must file in order to receive further benefits on your claim.

Im in CA and exhausted my benefit on March 14, 2020 and I have yet to receive any further benefits or extensions. I have been calling and calling EDD with NO luck as well as getting the run around from people from EDD which is delaying me to get my money. EDD sucks!

      1. Hi, Ck.
        Thank you for reply.
I also keep calling Edd and sending messages but no one picks up.
Phone only tells me that due to high volume calls, call later.

        This is really tough.

Everyone impacts Covid 19 and it’s hard to get a new job.
How nice Edd, federal, gov, have all jobless Americans Receive Edd pandemic payment automatically.

      2. Hi. I called Edd 50 times yesterday and today 10 times.
Until I hear next rep will be available on line, I also doubt Edd is actually working for PUA.

Still can’t believe they answered a phone.

I had to hold a line for 45 mins and I finally talked to actual person.
She only collected my info and inform to call tomorrow for applying.
I just still can’t sleep tonight for nervousness.

What are they asking when they call back ?

        Anyone knows here?

        Everyone here.
Have a patience and keep calling Edd
Then you will get PUA applied.
        Good luck, everyone.

    3. YES! See I exhausted on 4/11/20. With a zero balance they have no way of paying us in the currents systems format. I hear they have to build a whole new system to handle the work load. I can’t imagine how long it took to implement the one we have now as it seem to be holding.
They have to help, it may be late but they have too. I can’t do Uber right now, Lyft not in service? Can’t run food can’t work for Census so it is all bad. BUT I know if we exhausted our benefits and have a zero balance as of 4/20 and your claim is still good till 10/20 you should be getting paid.
Me too but nothing since my last payment on 4/16 of $600

      1. I have the exact same situation. My Last payment was 4/14 and under the CARES ACT, which I read very carefully, those who have recently exhausted their claim and have zero balance, yet their benefit year is still open, are entitled to the 13 week extension. Edd is handling this very poorly in leaving us hanging. At least update your website and give some guidance to this 13 week extension issue. It seems to be one of the most confusing of all.

      2. Hi, we have the same scenario, I went to the website & I’m not allowing me to certify anything coz I’ve a zero balance on my account (they need to put money on the account in order for us to claim something). I’ve received only two $600 on April 13 & 20, since then haven’t received anything. Sent them an email but no response at all. Not sure when this 13 additional weeks will be effective. Pls let me know if you hear anything.

  64. I applied for EDD on March 11, 2020 and haven’t heard anything back. I can’t contact them to talk to a live person; it’s only informational the numbers provided. Have anyone contacted EDd and spoken with a live person?

    1. No! Grrrr 1 minute past 8:00 they put on a recording that says they have more calls then they call handle, sorry and that’s it

  65. I exhausted my benefit last week. I tried to certify yesterday but it told me I was exhausted. So I won’t get my regular benefit. However, I got the 600, so does that mean that they are still paying the 600 each week before they fix extensions? I’m in New jersey.

      1. Well I’m waiting on extension. If the 600 was for previous week, don’t I have to certify for last week this week?

        1. The first payment they issued was on April 14th. That was for the week ending March 29th. So this weeks payment was for the week ending April 19th.

        2. Yes but in order to get it you have to certify. The regular ui has to be certified for too, I never got to certify this week, which is for last week. But the on a was there. Should be couple weeks before extension, but I’m just wondering if they are extended without certifying

    1. Bro, get ready bro there gonna cut you off! I’m in da valley of Cali and my last payment was $600 4/16/20.
We are awaiting going back to work, lots of us have jobs right NOW we can go to but can’t cause shut down plus no extended benefits.
Be patient, I hear we got 16 weeks of help coming till we get back up and running.

      1. My benefits expired 3/15/20.
I’ve been certifying for benefits weekly even though I have exhausted my benefits. It says no benefits are payable at this time. What do I need to do to get these benefits? I cannot open a new claim because my previous claim was dated 6/6/19
        Someone please help!

        1. Thinking this week….says Employment will just add the funds. Keep calling I guess people are making more progress like that it seems.
          I can’t get a hold of anybody. I have Bill’s!!

        2. I am experiencing the same situation. I am a restaurant cook. I had exhausted my benefits on March 1rst. I was hired March 6 at CheeseCake factory. Furloughed on March 18. UI account offers no PUA or EXTENSION links anywhere. No messages in my Benefits online inbox, I have sent 6 messages via Contact EDD. Nothing. I’m qualified for extension, I have been directly impacted by the COVID19 pandemic. Where is EDD? Why can’t I get thru on the phone? All offices are closed and have been closed. I’m feeling like all this PUA business is going to come & go without my ever having opportunity to an extension or the $600 stimulus relief payment. I doubt if all the applicants are even legit. I bet the system is backlogged with fraud applicants. This is totally unacceptable and I feel like suing EDD. Or The State of California. There are people receiving UI Benefits that were not even a part of being directly effected by COVID19

        3. You can try to apply for PUA online portal if you exhausted your unemployment funds or denied unemployment… just make sure to file all weekly claims for back pay when you file first claim week.

    2. I’m in California but.
I also exhausted my regular Edd benefit on 5/03/20 but benefit year is ended on 10/19/20.

Did you exhaust all your Edd benefit?
So do you mean you have $0 claim?

I wonder if you receive $600 federal pendemic Edd payment automatically?

    3. Hi. Mike Turtle.
      When did your benefit exhausted?
      When was last week?
Is your benefit year still valid?
      Did you apply for PUA?

After your benefit exhausted, without applying for PUA, without calling Edd to extend, did you receive $600 pandemic payment automatically?
Or did you receive $167 weekly for PUA with extra $600?
      Are you in CA?

  66. I have an extension through the California training benefit. This means that I am getting training/schooling funded through the workforce and therefore my UI is extended since 02/28. Will I be getting the CARE Act?

  67. Hi Bonnie.. Can you clarify, the number sequence you provided is for the 5616 number or the 2511 number.

  68. Hi, I’m in New jersey, I ran out of benefits last week, the dol site says if you are already receiving benefits and exhaust, you don’t need to do anything, it will be extended auto. On my claim status it says “filed”, with an Arlington the wbr, even though balance is zero. According to what does my status mean, it says when filed and dollar amount in wbr, i just need to certify each week. But I can’t certify, cause when I do it tells me I’m exhausted till end of 2020. So, does anybody think it will be added anyway, or do I have to do something different, like reapply or apply for pua?

    1. Posting this in case anyone is in a similar situation.

My claim balance reached zero on 4/25, but my benefit year is not expired until September 2020, because of this, I am unable to file a new claim. Here is what I did: I called EDD at 833-978-2511, as soon as I heard “welcome” I pressed 9. The goal is to hear music after you press 9, if you hear music, you’re on hold to speak to an EDD rep. If you hear “Thank you…” then hang up and try again and again until you hear the music. I did this 20 times before i got the music. After 30 minutes of waiting, an EDD rep was able to help me. I told him my situation and he had me file for PUA over the phone with him. He said this weekend I will be able to certify for past two weeks. I will now be getting $167 per week plus $600 which is less than I was getting before, but it’s better than nothing. Remember to be respectful and kind to your representative. If you get unlucky and the rep is not able to help you, ask to speak to a level 2 rep, or hang up and call back until you get someone who can. Good luck to everyone!

      1. Thanks but I’m not in California. It says on my cell that I don’t need to do anything but continue to certify but I can’t cause when I do it says I’m at zero. But my status is filed, and dollar amount is in and box, which is supposed to mean I’m ok. But they won’t pay if I can’t certify

        1. All the system are similar. In california we just don’t have access to any claim form with a zero balance. EDD is set to hopefully get this fixed I hear by the end of this week.

        2. We have a site that you enter your ss, and email, and it tells you your claim status, then a document to explain what your status means. Mine says all I need to do is certify, but it won’t let me certify. I wouldn’t mind if I knew I’m going to get it eventually, it’s not knowing is the hard part

      2. Thank you Roxanna, I am in the same situation my UC $$ claim max reached on 3/16. I called the 2511 towards the end of the day (6:40PM) and reached the EDD rep. The EDD rep took all my info
and opened a ticket for a callback by a Tier 2 claims specialist to assist. I was told up to 7 days or sooner for a callback. Waiting now.

      3. Thank you Roxanna the information you shared is invaluable! Peace and more thanks,

    2. Vanessa, I have the exact situation as you because I also have had a claim that recently a week ago went to zero. In see the same info on the Jersey site that you see, and no luck on my end either getting through to get some clarity. If you have found out any more since, please let me know. My claim started back in November of last year. Im still waiting for some answer that makes sense. I did get a mailing telling me my benefits were about to run out and no extension was available. But it didnt address The situation about the Cares Act. So who knows!!

  69. Hello! I have exhausted my benefits on March, 16, 2020. I have continue to file my claims every Sunday. MDES keeps telling me I have exhausted my benefits, and not eligible, until July, 20. Can I file for PUA????

    1. Should be a week or so I hear. Some people have been able to call in and access a tier 2 employee to file a claim for then.
I was issued my last pandemic payment 4/16/20 and exhausted my benefits 4/11/20 recieved $613. $600 was a pandemic payment. I just got a flyer today saying to keep an eye on EDD web site. If emergency keep calling.

  70. Just got off the phone with EDD after waiting almost an hour only to have her tell me that I called the technical support line and she only deals with people having trouble signing on. I hardly seeing that that’s high on everybody’s problem list right now. Most people know how to use a freaking computer. What I see everybody in need of is information on the 13 week extension which nobody seems to want to address. And this is the new 938 number they’ve told everyone to call. The one that’s been expanded from 8am -8pm, and it’s only to help people sign on to a computer?? Give me a break!!! She took my social, name and date I filed which was 10-20-19. Then she said “ oh so this is nothing to do with the pandemic”….
Jees! Do any of these people answering the phones even know what the CARES ACT is? I’m so frustrated I can’t see straight.

    1. I’ve got through on both that tech line and the 5616 line a couple times. Both reps told me to call the other number. They’re unqualified and incompetent. They’re like reverse telemarketers who will say anything to get you off the phone. It’s ironic that they’re working.

    2. Cynthia,
You need to ask for a tier 2 representative/agent.
Last night I spoke to 4 different agents , the last one added me to a call back list. I started calling at 6:37pm tonight and the 3 rd representative finally was able to help me. My benefits exhausted on 4/12/2020. Tonight I was able to certify for the past 2 weeks. So keep calling that number and press 0 until you are in the holding que.
      good luck

      1. There’s got to be thousands of people in this situation that will never be able to get ahold of a competent rep who’s willing to help. I’ve spoken to 4 different reps with no success. I’ve invested many many frustrating hours.

Did this helpful rep give any indication that EDD might pay us willingly?

      2. There’s got to be thousands of people in this situation that will never be able to get ahold of a competent rep who’s willing to help. I’ve spoken to 4 different reps with no success. I’ve invested many many frustrating hours.

Did this helpful rep give any indication that EDD might pay us willingly?

        1. Between the 7 reps I spoke to, only one gave an estimate regarding the 13 week extension. He said 7-10 days. None of them were on the same page ..

        2. 7-10 days from when a competent rep makes it happen for an individual who’s tenacious and lucky ?

Or 7-10 days until EDD fixes this issue?

          Thanks for the info btw.

  71. I live in NY and I exhausted both my benefits AND my benefit year from my previous claim ended 4/19. I completed a new claim application online 4/20 but it said to call to complete my claim, but when I call, the recording says I don’t need to call them and that they’ll call me. I received 3 messages after that saying that all information required to complete my claim has been received, but I was unable to use the online system because I’ve only partially completed my claim and that I should call to complete my claim!

By some miracle I was able to certify for benefits for the past week online just now, with an option to file a new claim. Unfortunately I exited the application before completing it and now I’m back to the “call to complete your claim” page!!!!

I don’t know if it was a fluke that I was able to certify for last week’s benefits… My question is, will the 13 week extension now be applied to my previous benefit year (which ended in April)? Or do I still need to keep trying to file a new claim?

  72. I have exhausted my 52 weeks – year benefits , however I still have funds available.
When I try to do a biweekly file it tells me that my benefits are established however are inactive.-
    Then on a different page
Says do not submit a new claim just keep following the biweekly file until you can get through.
How do I know if they will open my remaining claim?
    It’s only been a week .

    1. I’m similar to you.
I checked my claim , and it had today’s date 5/8/2020 and Said as of 5/5/2020 the status of your claim is as followed.

      Claim stays:
Your claim has been processed .
Please file your biweekly claim as instructed.

I take this As I continue filing and hopefully I get paid.

      1. Can you let me know if you get updates? I’m curious because my benefit year ends 05/16/20 and but I still have $9,000 in unused benefits. I’m in CA and I’m wondering if I will have to file a new claim- or if there will be a 13 week extension from the time my benefit year ends.

  73. Claim expires in July and $ ran out in April. Spoke with someone at CA EDD on the 2511 number. Not much help other than confirming that the 13 weeks will be added on at $167 per week (not the $450 I was expecting) + the $600 CARES, when it comes online. She said she thought it would come online May 10th. When I asked if that was something she knew and she wasn’t sure why she had that date. I told her I don’t mind waiting as long as I knew it would be retroactive. She could not answer that either. EDD is doing a very poor job of communicating regarding the 13 week extension. Because of this, I will still continue to try to get a hold of a tier 2 person, who can supposedly do an extension.

    1. I am in the same boat as you. Balance ran out on April 25th and I am still within my benefit year until September 2020. Did you ask if you are elegible to file for PUA? I am curious about that.

      1. @ Roxanne,
Your state EDD has run out, and exhausted benefits. The PUA is weekly of $167 and $600 CARES, which brings it in the total of $767 weekly for April to July. (Federal funded) I wouldn’t complained about the amount, and you had a capable EDD Representative to assist, as this is better than zero amount since you have exhausted the benefits. We should count our blessings that we are the lucky ones that was able to get EDD Representative to submit the PUA claim on the behalf. There is many people on this email string is getting ZERO amount benefits and talk to many EDD representative that can’t even help them. Thank you.

    2. Were you paid $450 per week before the $ ran out? If so did she explain why it is $167 per week instead of $450? And will getting a hold of tier 2 person change the amount? Thanks!

  74. It sure looks like those who’s benefits ran out 3/15 or later are just getting ripped off and ignored. I’ve spoke with 4 different agents from 2 different phone numbers and they have nothing for me. I’ve messaged EDD twice a day for 3 weeks inquiring about extension. I finally got a reply saying “we have no plan for extension”

Levy and Julie Su just bold face lie to the public. Levy said she’d have an answer “in a day or two” on 3/28/20. I’m going to be very bitter about paying these crooks when they swindle money from my weekly paycheck in the future.

    1. @ Jeri: does any of these items below applies to you? the EDD Representative doesn’t know what they are talking about. It is clearly stated that if you have exhausted the benefits and extended benefits, you are qualified for the PUA. I would call back to EDD again and get a representative that can help you with opening the PUA application.

You have collected all unemployment benefits for which you were eligible and remain unemployed or partially unemployed as a direct result of a COVID-19 reason. This means that you were qualified for regular UI but have exhausted those benefits, as well as any extended benefits.

COVID-19 related reasons for being out of work include the following:

You have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and are seeking a medical diagnosis.
You are unable to work because a health care provider advised you to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.
A member of your household has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
You are providing care for a family member or a member of your household who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
A child or other person in the household for whom you have primary caregiving responsibility is unable to attend school or another facility that is closed as a direct result of the COVID-19 and the school or facility care is required for you to work.
You became the breadwinner or major support for a household because the head of the household has died as a direct result of COVID-19.
You have to quit your job as a direct result of COVID-19.
Your place of employment is closed as a direct result of COVID-19.
You were scheduled to start a job that is now unavailable as a direct result of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
You are unable to reach the place of employment as a direct result of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
If you work as an independent contractor with reportable income, you may also qualify for PUA benefits if you are unemployed, partially employed, or unable or unavailable to work because the COVID-19 public health emergency has severely limited your ability to continue performing your customary work activities, and has thereby forced you to stop working.

      1. Yes I’m eligible. After a month on the phone and 4 long debate sessions with these incompetent reps, it’s a little discouraging. An entire day on the phone with no success at reaching a rep is common. I guess I’ll make it an even 5 debates and see where it goes.

        1. @ Jer, I would try on weekends, the callimg traffic might be lessend and start at 7:59 am. Please stay optimistic and your find EDD representative can help you.

        2. I called 500 times today. Got through to the automated social security entry 11 times. Couldn’t get a rep. EDD is a huge fail.

        3. Here is another date from member, you need to get level 2 EDD representative to open a new PUA claim for you. Good luck! It does work because my weeks were open for me to certified.
So keep calling that number and press 0 until you are in the holding que.
          good luck

      2. Im in CA … and i have exhausted my benefits as of March 14, 2020 and it was not covid related, just unemployed. In which Im still unemployed during with covid crisis. Since, the covid 19, we are to stay home so I can’t go out on interviews like normal. EDD told me that I am not directly affected by covid 19 and I do not qualify for the PUA benefits.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do? or all I can do is wait for extensions to roll out, which we don’t even know when that will be and I have no money.

        1. Hi all,
This drives me crazy reading that we don’t qualify for PUA benefits when those of us who can’t interview, have exhausted our UI benefits, and in need of some kind of $ coming in, can’t!
Where is our government, what are they doing to help those in dire need and have been struggling DAILY to figure something out?

    2. I too spoke with someone yesterday and she said they have “no direction” regarding extensions. They are going to be extending, but they dont have direction on when that eill take place. I CANNOT apply for PUA! The number that you are supposed to call to reopen a claim or extend keeps hanging me up. The number ending in 5630 says there’s no details on my account. I cant believe they would just leave us hanging like that. I mean the least they could do is have a generated letter saying something. I am very disappointed and frustrated. If you find out something please post!

  75. Unfortunately, my last payment was on Jan 21. People in my shoes will never know if they are eligible for anything…

  76. My unemployment benefits exhausted May 2, 2020. My balance is zero. Do I qualify for the 13 week extension?

    1. You’re eligible. They’re not paying us though. Open claim means you’re getting ignored by EDD.

  77. I got laid off in August and exhausted my benefits in February. I finally got a job in March 2020 but it was contract work to turn into regular employment. unfortunately they had to let all the contract workers go in march 20th and tried to contact the California Unemployment Insurance Department but they won’t answer. I tried calling almost everyday and finally gave up calling at the end of april. I also tried sending them messages thru the system and the systems says that they received them but no answer from a regular person. I feel like the system is failing us. Governor Gavin Newsom said that he had place a new PUA team to help in April 28th but you just get an answering machine and it hangs up on you. It’s really frustrating.

    1. Hello Francisco:
I feel your pain, however, I went through the same crap and been calling for 60 days. However, I was able to get through to EDD on Sunday at 8 am PST and the EDD Representative file the PUEA claim for me and I was able to file on Sunday and got all my back payment today at the bank, to at least make rent this month. Please make sure you have exhausted your EDD benefits between Feb 2nd through March 21st.

      1. If you received your last benefit payment for weeks you spent unemployed between February 2 and March 21, but are still within the one year that your claim is good for, you could be eligible for PUA benefits for the weeks you are eligible for between February 2, 2020 and March 28, 2020.

      1. So I’m definitely calling in daily. My last payment is 4/14/20 & was $600 pandemic payment.
Maxed benefits on the 11th recieving $613.
I was suppose to start a Census Position that ceased due to the virus!?
I believe I fall into category #2 for 16 weeks. We just have to call in low if you really need it cause the web site is lagging.

  78. I filed for unemployment on 8/20/19 with Ca EDD. I was approved for the CTB program and started a Welding class on 2/23/20. I exhausted my UI benefits on 3/7/20 (didn’t actually get paid until 3/29/20 as I certified later). My benefits are now extended through until the class ends or 8/20/20, whichever comes first. My account balance went from $0 balance to $11,000.00 as a result of the CTB extension. I have certified for UI benefits all the weeks and am getting my $450.00 a week. I have not received the $600.00 boost though. My question is, do I get the 13 week extension as my original claim year ends 8/20/20 but my class ends 10/30/20. Also, will I be receiving the $600.00 boost. Anybody have any info regarding the pandemic boost and the CTB extension? Can’t get through on the phone and haven’t received response to e-mail. They have no info on the website pertaining to this situation. Any input would much appreciated.

    1. The career center staff told me that people who get CTB extension are ineligible for the $600. However, she also said that $600 was for contractors/self-employed–people who have 1099G…which doesn’t sound right to me.

      1. Thanks, I finally got someone on the phone at EDD. Don’t think they were the most qualified, but they also said the same thing, CTB extensions do not qualify for the $600.00 boost. So when my money was exhausted March 7, the CTB kicked in. The thing is, the school shut down the following week, at the time they said 2 weeks until they figure out what’s going. Then on March 30, they said the school will be closed until the fall Semester. The class went online after that, but it’s a welding class so not really doing much except book work, 70% is hands on training. Now we are set to resume the class on August 15 and finish October 30 (instead of June 12). With the mess that’s going on, I don’t want to rock the boat, so I certify every week to get my $450. I’m thinking that technically I’m not going to school, so I shouldn’t be collecting CTB money but should qualify for the 13 week extension along with the $600 boost. The 13 week extension should tack on to the back end of my original claim end date which is 8/20/20. So my CTB should kick back on when I resume class and cover me til the end of class with the 13 week extension. At least that’s how I see it. If I tell them my class stopped then I risk not not getting anything and who knows when they’ll get this mess straightened out with the 13 week extension and $600 boost for people that exhausted their money in March. So what to do?

  79. I’m in a similar boat as everyone here! I am in CA and my benefits were exhausted January 11, 2020. I started a new job on January 22, 2020, but was laid off on March 15, 2020 due to the pandemic. There’s nothing on the EDD site to file for the 13 week extension or PUA. All it says is that my benefits have been exhausted, but my claim doesn’t expire until July 4, 2020. Are we supposed to just sit and wait for EDD to contact us? I’ve received nothing via email or mail and have tried calling the number but have had zero luck. Please help!! Any advice is appreciated!

    1. Hi KC:

Reopen your claim, if you still have benefit funds lift, when you exhausted the current benefit funds, it will switch to the 13 weeks PUA fund. Hopefully, you can do that by logging into UI Online, reopen the certification, you will be eligible for EDD if you meet the earning requirements, if not then you will have to go through the PUA claim with UI on-line. Good luck!

      18339782511 EDD- CA – 8 am to 8 pm PST- Mon-Sunday

      1. Thanks Bonnie. I used all of my benefits so when I log in, there’s nothing to do. I tried calling the number you provided several times and it’s just a recording and hangs up at the end (even when pressing the numbers you suggested). If my claim is completely exhausted, but doesn’t reset until July – do I just wait for someone at Edd to reach out?

        1. Hello KC: I have been calling EDD for 60 days and was able to get through this Sunday at 7:59 am PST, I would keep trying and redial all through the day.
When you do, they will create the PUA claim for the 13 weeks extension, when they create this, you will be able to certify right away, they will give you $176, plus $600 and retro for March&April. Or you can wait until the EDD figures out with their IT staff on automatic extension, I don’t guarantee when that will happen. However, just keep trying.. one day you will get through, I always called at 7:59 am to get through or at 7 pm, all through the day. good luck

New EDD Line: 8 am to 8 pm PM- If I would you call @ 7:59 am PST @ 833-978-2511. I have been

  80. My Unemployment b exausted on Sept 2019 I couldn’t find job so I went in a school program provided by workforce, now with the pandemic going I have to stay Home with my 3 children, do I qualify for Unemployment benefits? Also I apply for unemployment on apr 13 and i have a confirmation # but have not received any letter or email how long does it takes to send me letter or email? Or to be approved for UI?

  81. I current collecting unemployment and only have 900 remaining how do I apply for 13 week extension unable to contact anyone and online no tap available.

    1. Hello All:
If you are in CA and exhausted your benefits and need the 13 weeks extension. I was able to reach EDD representative at 833-978-2511, this is the new number from 8 am to 8 pm- Mon-Sunday.
The EDD file the PUA extension for me via phone so I was able to certify for March and April, and the payment is already being processed. So, I would recommend everyone to keep calling the EDD line for California. I wish you best of luck, don’t give up, as I have been calling them everyday since April 28th, you will get through. Thank you.

      1. I ran out on April 11th. I received an email today to certify for benefits. Looks like they are automatically doing it.

        1. I just clicked on your phone number link, got through and they don’t have any info for me. They told me to call the 5616 number on Monday. I kept this one on the phone and gave her the whole long story. Once again… kick rocks.

        2. Hi Jer, there must be an issue with your UI online that requires the EDD specialist to extend 13 weeks. The EDD representative was able to open my claims to certifym Sorry to hear. Below is the prompt number to press to get to the EDD EDD representative. Good luck tmrw!
On the prompt by typing in the number 1, 6, 7, 3. So, let the automatic voice talk then type 1, after the voice talks select 6, then 7, and 3. If you don’t do this, it will hung up on you. Tel: 1800-300-5616

        3. Hi Ginger, when your balance reached zero, did you get a message saying that no extended benefits were available to you? My balance just ran out on April 25th and I just got a message saying that no extended benefits are available to me. Now I am wondering if I should call or just wait and see. Thank you.

        4. Im in CA and I ran out of my benefits on March 14 with no money and I received no email notice to give me some hope. Ive contacted EDD by email and Ive been told there is NO extension. I thought if we have exhausted our benefits, it would think our claims would be filed automatically during the crisis. Can someone tell me what I can do?

          Thank you

        1. Hi I exhausted my benefits in February and the same thing no one answers or responds. I sent letter to one of the senators in california.

        2. @ Francisco: is your unemployment period when you exhausted between the dates on bullet point #1. if it is before Feb 2nd, you might not qualified. However, you will qualified if you had an job offer but was laid off due to cov19. Then you can call EDD @ 833-978-2511 (M-S from 8 to 8 pm PST) to file for the PEUC benefits. Hopefully, this is helpful.

Unfortunately, the complex web of eligibility requirements established by the federal government makes this very challenging for impacted workers looking for immediate financial help. To help navigate the mandated requirements, the EDD provides the following guidance to assist workers. It all depends on when you exhausted your benefits, and when your benefit year expires.

          1. If you received your last benefit payment for weeks you spent unemployed between February 2 and March 21, but are still within the one year that your claim is good for, you could be eligible for PUA benefits for the weeks you are eligible for between February 2, 2020 and March 28, 2020.

While you will not be able to apply for PUA through UI Online, the EDD will send you a Notice of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Award and a separate document you’ll need to complete to give EDD additional details that we don’t already have from you to meet PUA requirements. Watch for further updates soon.

          2. If you received your last benefit payment for weeks you spent unemployed on or after March 21 and are still within your benefit year, you will not meet federal requirements for PUA. But the EDD will automatically file an extension claim for you as soon as it’s available since we will already have your information needed. You will receive a notice from EDD when that claim has been filed and when you can certify for PEUC benefit payments.

          3. If you ran out of benefits before February 2 and are still within your benefit year, you most likely will not be eligible for PUA because you have to verify your unemployment is a direct result of the pandemic. However, you may be eligible for the new federal 13-week extension. The EDD will notify you of how to apply as soon as further details are available.

          4. If you have run out of your benefits AND your benefit year has expired, you are encouraged to reapply for benefits through UI Online. Based on the information you provide, the EDD will determine if you qualify for a new regular UI claim based on wage data or a PUA claim.
          5. If you are unable to collect regular UI benefits due to a disqualification (such as you voluntarily quit, were fired or discharged from your employer), or you are serving a false statement penalty from a past claim, you could be eligible for PUA benefits. As with group one above, you will receive a Notice of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Award and a separate document you’ll need to complete to give the EDD additional details that we don’t already have from you to meet PUA requirements. Watch for further updates soon.

      2. Hi,

I called the phone number you mentioned and the guy I spoke with did not do anything for me. All he told me was to wait for new updates on EDD site and hopefully soon I may be able to get an extension or possibly get it automatically. Yet, he didn’t seem to be sure about anything he was saying or when I can see any payment coming my way. I am so worried and scared, my benefit exhausted on March 2020 and no money since and all I can do is pray that it all works out for me soon.

        1. I would call again, shared with them you need to apply for the PUA and you are looking for the 13 weeks extension, if he can process the claim for yeah, as one of your colleague had the representative did it. I would call back until you get someone who is seasoned. As I got this done on Sunday AM @ 8 am, the Representative was so efficient and solve my problem. It was really nice to get funds to pay rent. I wouldn’t wait and not sure how long will EDD get the system updated, in the meanwhile, you are the sitting dock.

      3. Hi Bonnie,

Just curious, was your benefit period still open, or did it end? My balance is currently zero but my benefit period does not expire until September 2020.

        1. @ Roxanne:

I have exhausted my EDD benefits on March yth, but the benefit period is opened until August 2020.
my balance is ZERO. So the only way for you to get the UI online to have weeks open for you to certify, you have to call the EDD Representative to submit the PUA claim, as you qualified under the PUA. I was able to submit March & April claims and got paid today for it. So, you have two choices, if you want to wait until EDD fixes the issue to extend automatically or if you are urgently need to get $$ for the extension. I would recommend you call 1833-978-2511 – open 8 am to 8 PM PST – EDD CA and they process the application for you on line and open the weeks for the certification. Good luck.

      4. Hi Bonnie,
Thanks a lot for the information. When you got through, besides the $600 PUA, they only give you $167 instead of $450 for the extended benefits? I was paid $450 weekly before the $ run out, and I read from the news that we should get paid the amount we were regularly paid under the UI program…so just curious why it was reduced to $167…Thanks a lot!

    2. This is good news for us who are still waiting for the Exhausted benefits extension…Hoping we they gonna process asap!!!

  82. I worked here in California last Dec.3 and my Company already lockdown last March 2020 related of the Covid-19..but then I apply EDD here in California but then I’m not qualified..In my last 18 months I worked in Alaska but then my Unemployment is already Exhausted in the month of last week of November 2019…Their advice in Alaska is file and file until they gonna process the Exhausted Unemployment..My question is Am I qualify for the Exhausted Unemployment and if so when they gonna start give the Exhausted Unemployment..

  83. Hello everyone with the same problem I have. Make that, had. I just got through to EDD. They finally have guidelines to except PUA Applications. This has to be done with them calling you. The tricky part is getting through to them in the first place but, once you do, they will take your information and supposedly call you back, to take your application over the phone, within 72 hours. Best of luck.

    1. I just got off the phone with them and gave my name for the list and they said it will take a week for them to get back to you. I’m so worried because I have so many bills due.

  84. Hi ,
Just wanted to give an update that I received from calling the senates office this morning . Regarding California unemployment 13 week extension
I’m just going to copy and paste from the email they sent me at 4:45 pm today

Workers who have exhausted all available unemployment benefits

The EDD has a dedicated team working to build the new 13-week federal extension of benefits established in the federal CARES Act called the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). Some workers who have run out of all of their available benefits will be eligible for this extension, while others may qualify for the new PUA program.

    Hope this helps

    1. Thanks for that info. So far this is the most descriptive and informative bit of information I’ve seen on this debacle.

      1. Jer D,
Of course. Please post if you here anything more.
        Toni Duran
District Representative | 39th Senate District
Office of Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins
She was so very helpful and emailed me shortly after my initial call this morning.

        1. When is this supposed to happen? My last regular UI payment was 4/14. I finally got hold of a live person who could not answer my question on the 13 week extension. She said I would get a call back in 24-48 hours. That was 4 days ago. So, they’ve ramped up their call center so they can lie? What a travesty. Does ANYONE have any accurate and truthful answers on this 13- week extension??? I’m about ready to scream!!

    2. Hi Janina,
Thank you very much for those valuable an clear information. If you receive any news regarding to the new 13 weeks extension. Please post it. Much appreciate for your kindness.

    3. Hello, I have been trying to submit a claim for a month plus. My original claim cannot be reinstated until May 16 this year, therefore it has not allowed me to do an extension. what do I do. Can I file a new claim for the Cares Act. And my biggest question is where can I find an application on the internet to do so. How will someone contact me of this nature. Thank you

      1. Hi. How do I read your whole response? It only shows the first 1/2

    4. I just watched the interview with Julie Su, and it’s amazing that in a 20 minute interview, she still danced around the question. She never gave an answer for folks that have an open claim /exhausted Benefits after 3/29/20. It appears as though she’s not aware of the info that you posted. Totally incompetent.

    5. Hi Janina,
I am so worried. I received my last benefits payment on February 9th. Although I may qualify for the PUA, how will I apply? In the email it is mentioned that we might receive a Notice of Pandemic Assistance Award. How will they know to generate that email to me and is there any confirmation that I will get it? I feel like a sitting duck. I was also placed on a call list for my case to which they said they will call me in about a week from an unknown or private number.

If eligible for PUA benefits, will that automatically grant us the 39 weeks from PUA or only the 13 week extension that is not yet in effect?

I don’t know what to do or what the next steps to take are.
I did find a job at an event rentals company on February 14th but that was short lived because they are now closed until further notice because everybody started cancelling their parties and events. I worked a total of 3 days and was promised 40 hours a week. I then was paid in a Zelle transfer for those days. Will this cause any issues?

    6. Hi Janina,
Thanks a lot for this helpful information. Yet I don’t quite understand the part “1. If you received your last benefit payment for weeks you spent unemployed between February 2 and March 21, but are still within the one year that your claim is good for, you could be eligible for PUA benefits for the weeks you are eligible for between February 2, 2020 and March 28, 2020. “. Besides the PUA benefits between Feb 2 and March 28, are these people eligible to the PUA benefits all the way till the end of July? Are they eligible to the extended UI benefits payment? If people who run out their benefits in Feb are eligible to the extension, there should be no reason that people who run out their benefits between Feb 2 and March 21 are not…
      Thanks a lot!

  85. I live is California. I also have exhausted my UI benefits, but claim is active until 10/2020 therefore I cannot reopen a claim or file a new claim. I was on the phone for 3 days, finally got in the cue, waited on phone for 2.5 hours, but I did speak to someone with EDD. I qualify for the 13 week extension, I don’t have to do anything else, my name was placed on a list. Apparently, even though we qualify for the extension, it is not operational as of 4/29/2020. My only hope is that it “kicks in” soon. Good luck to everyone here and stay safe.

    1. Hi Mandy,

My benefit exhausted on 4/15/2020, my claim is active until 10/1/2020. Your name was placed on the list, because you talk to the EDD. How about my name will be on the list or not? or I need to call EDD to put my name on the list? Thank you vey much for your post.

      1. Saying a prayer for all that are suffering from the fall out of COVID19. My prayer is that God will provide in spite of this governmental chaos. The United States needs to get rid of incompetence!!

  86. Extensions do not have anything to do with a zero balance on your original claim. Extensions are issued when the employment rate reaches an all-time high and has nothing to do with your claim being exhausted to zero. These people working at EDD must have been dragged in off the street and thrown in a chair and not given any details of the CARES ACT. They’re doing absolutely nothing to quell the fears of all these people who are suffering because of no money.

    1. Updated today 5/1 on EDD CALIFORNIA
If you received your last payment for weeks you were unemployed on or after March 21 and are still within your benefit year, we will automatically extend your claim for 13 weeks. We will notify you that we have done that and when you can certify.

  87. I was layed off on March 14 so I immediately did my application for unemployment and yesterday the 27th Of April I finally got approved but I was only paid one week because it was before DeSantis put the waiting week is voided so I had to wait the week and only got paid one week, I didn’t claim my weeks because the portal told me I didn’t have to claim them because DeSantis waved it. But now I find out that didn’t go in affect until March 15th, so one day early. So now I’m inactive and cannot figure out how to reactivate it. Will I be able to claim the next available weeks to come? They will pop up in my portal around the time when I need to file right? I don’t know what to do. This is so scary waited a month and half and only recieved one 275$ payment because it was before the extra government money went into affect. Can I be compensated for the past weeks I stayed unemployed and was entitled to the money and the system incorrectly directed me. Does anyone know what I should do please help

  88. I finally got a response from Ca Edd. I’ve been messaging them twice a day for weeks now. My claim is active until September but I’ve got $0 balance.
I got $600 tacked onto my final payment and now evidently I can kick rocks.

    This is their response….

“Your Pandemic Additional Compensation (PAC) was authorized on 041520 for week ending 040420. At this time, no information on when extension are going to be filed. Please continue to visit the Department website for information. Thank You“

  89. I live in California and my benefits were exhausted on April 4. I received one $600 payment on the final check Everything I have read says I should be able to apply for the 13 week extension tue 04/28 when I go to my UI online homepage it does not allow me to file it’s just says you received your maximum benefits no co-vid page nothing anybody else having this problem as well. I read The program is up and running I got hungry kids to. If anybody knows anything please post God bless

    1. The same exact thing is happening to me. Nowhere to apply for the 13-week extension. Great job EDD.

      1. Many of us going thru the same situation … waiting on that 13 week extension is so frustrating. I dont know what else to do but wait. ‍♀️ Good luck every one !

    2. I’m having the same problem! There no way to file a new claim, extend the claim I had or just apply for PUA benefits. I’ve called and called. Finally got into the waiting cue. The on hold music stopped after 30 minutes of waiting. I hung up after an hour cause I wasn’t even sure I was still connected. Really need some help but the is NONE to be had!

    3. I’m in the same boat! Same state, same date my benefits were exhausted, and only received one $600 payment with no information about the 13 week extension. Stressing beyond belief. Fingers are crossed that our State get’s it together asap.

    4. When you log in to your account before it gets to the page that had your claim info and notifications it should give you the option on the left to file or reopen claim and on right manage account. My advice is click button on left file new claim for pandemic UI. I did the same for my husband yesterday and he already has the minimum $167 on there back dated from February, course you have to certify to get those prior dates.

    5. Hi William,
I am in the same situation as you did in California. I got the additional $600 in my last pay check on 4/4/20. It always showed max. benefit paid now, I don’t know what I need to do. I got approval for the CTB program until August, suppose I got the benefic of the Training Extension (TE). But nothing happen. Do I need to re-apply a new claim for those 13 weeks extended? Thanks.

      1. Soon as the system is up and running to handle the additional claims I assume. Crazy.

  90. OMG I have been on the phone 2 days and the computer. Cant get anyone to help and I just keep going in circles back to the same spot that says Ive exhausted my benefits, the end My benefits ran out the exact same day.

  91. I recently applied for the pua in Colorado but it would only allow me to apply if I’m out of work because of covid 19 but ive been out of work since Sept of 2019 and exausted my regular Ui. Now the job is disputing it because I wasnt let go because of the virus. I didn’t know how else to apply but I notaded I had exausted my benefits and was filing for an extention. Now I may be turned down because of this. How am I supposed to get a regular extention. It says I was supposed to apply how I did and I waited all the way till the 28th to be able to even apply. I’m lost and can’t get a straight answer

  92. I made a mistake when I filed my PUA UI claim. I’m a Realtor and I misread the Disaster Section Reasons and answered ‘No” and I cannot contact anyone to correct my mistake. Do I have any other options? If i’m denied because of my mistake will I have the opportunity to re-apply?

    1. Where did you locate the area on the EDD website to apply for PUA? I can’t find it anywhere

      1. It is only showing up for people that dont have the one message saying “you have exhausted all benefits at this time until your benefit year ends.” For all the rest of us guess they didn’t think about how to let us apply for PUA :/

      2. There’s no special button for PUI file a normal claim. Read questions carefully click yes to being affected by a disaster covid19, when it asked for your last employer click no employer if you read carefully it says if you wish to list wages and employer then your applying for regular UI, no employer PUI.

    2. File a brand new claim. That’s all there is too it. I did the same thing. I’m in CA though. I messaged and messaged they never responded. File a new claim click disaster and follow all directions for each question as it relates to PUI not UI.

  93. per my reading of post, this was information on the Californian’s whom has exhausted their EDD benefits and requesting on the 13 weeks extension on the PUA guidance, that is eligible to us. We just have to wait until Californian’s EDD work on the on-line to work on this exhausted population.

“Yes right now the only thing we can do is wait it out. The California labor secretary tweeted early today “For those who have exhausted regular UI and asking about the UI extension. We hear you. It is a top priority and we will have a timeline for you soon” so hopefully the 13 weeks is implemented very very soon.”

    1. What if your benefit year is set to expire in May and they don’t have it up and running? Do those applying for PEUC get the $600?

  94. I live in Memphis and my funds are at 0 but I still did my weekly certification and it accepted it hopefully my 600 will still load

  95. Here in CA…I got through to an actual person on the phone today. I gave my ss# and explained that my claim is open until September and that I’ve got a $0 balance. I asked if I’ll be receiving 13week PAU. I was told in no uncertain terms “I don’t know”. I was told to call the 8-8 number. I explained to the person that that number is for UI online tech assistance. I guess it could be worse. They could be implemented fines on me.

    1. I called the UI online tech assistance phone number! It just plays a message…not even an option to speak with someone. Who are we supposed to contact to get help?? My husband’s last benefit payment for was week ending March 21st, and that exhausted his available funds. But he can’t get a job now! So, it has been over a month since he has been able to bring in any money. What do we do?? I have read that he should get a 13 week extension, but I can see no where to apply for it. He went to our local Social Security office, and they told him to “just reopen his claim.” But there is no option to do that when I log in to his account!

  96. I can’t in touch with unemployment to ask for a extension is it going be automatically continue me to file even if i don’t talk to someone but I’m eligible

  97. Same story here in Ca. Balance went to Zero 4/4/20. I got my first $600 on 4/14/20. UI online says my payments are exhausted and I can’t file a new claim until 9/29/20.

I’ve messaged EDD daily for weeks and wasted several hours every day on the phones. Nothing but crickets from EDD. Keep in mind we were forced to purchase this insurance. I wish I could’ve just kept my money.

    1. OMG I have been on the phone 2 days and the computer. Cant get anyone to help and I just keep going in circles back to the same spot that says Ive exhausted my benefits, the end My benefits ran out the exact same day.

      1. I got an actual unemployment employee on the phone today that flat out told me that she doesn’t know. She has no information for me.

A few hours later I got a response from my 32 messages I’ve left over the last couple weeks. The message says they have no plan to implement extensions yet….. Thank you

        1. THAnks I’ve sooken with 2 different reps on the 5615 line since my funds went to 0$ On 4/4/20.

This rep sounded surprised that I couldn’t click a link simply seal the deal.

Like I said, I explained in detail to her that my claim is open until September and that my funds were exhausted on 04/04/2019.

We danced around all the possibilities and probabilities… theories and conjecture until it was just crickoand we both agreed that I’m the one coming up short on funds.

        2. @ Jeri, I would call back again and get another EDD representative that can process PUA clsim so you can certify April and on. 18339782511 EDD.
My EDD CA was exhausted on March 7th, this am process the PUA claim and ask me questions and was, able to open the weeks for March and April to certify the weeks. Then the new extension claims reset to March 8th to Dec 2019 for 13 weeks of approx 6k. Sorry to say, the EDD Representative didn’t know what to do, the lady in got in the phone process it and took about 20 minutes on the phone. I would try this EDD EDD representative number again, verse the 5616 for the EDD EDD specialist, I had no luck with that number 5616 for 2 months.

        3. @ J Drumm…you have to tell the EDD CA representative to open a new claim for PUA. This week has been very nutty for EDD. I was very luck to get an EDD representative that knows what they are doing. The EDD Representative needs to open the PUA claim for the 13 weeks extension. My was exhausted on March 7th until August 31st. When EDD will create a new cycle for PUA, for mine was from Mar 8 to Dec 2020, until I exhausted the 13 weeks amount. Good luck.

        4. Hi. Bonnie.
I was also lucky to talk to a real person in Edd today.
I hold the phone for 40 mins and spoke.
She got my personal info today and she extended a benefit year but she said Edd will call tomorrow to process For PUA.
I don’t know what time they call and what questions they ask me.

Can you share yours with me ?

  98. I live in California. Lost job in September last year and have exhausted my UI on March 14th this year. Log in this early morning, did not see any link or guide to apply for PUA.

    1. I’m in the same situation as you. So much stress! I’ve heard conflicting things about the extension on Facebook groups and EDD reps all seem to have different reposted to the same questions. I hope we get our extensions soon. If not I will be homeless.
