2019 IRS Tax Refund Processing Schedule and Direct Deposit Cycle Chart for 2018 Return Filings

Below is the latest table showing estimated 20182019 tax season refund payment dates based on past refund cycles and IRS guidelines. It shows the date your refund will be processed and paid based on the week your return is accepted by the IRS. For refund dates specific to your tax filing go to the Where is my Refund (WMR) page or IRS2Go mobile application. Also note that for the upcoming tax season, existing IRS tables and rules are in place.

Note that Jan 28th is when the IRS E-file system will start processing electronic and paper tax returns. Even if you submitted before this date, don’t expect refund processing and payments to take place beforehand.

EITC and ACTC Related Tax Refund Delays (PATH) Update: As in previous tax seasons a number of tax payers will see refund processing delays. The IRS had already announced that it will have to hold/delay refund payments for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) due to additional anti-fraud safeguards/reviews under newly enacted laws (PATH Act). But the IRS is now processing refunds which were originally being held up due to PATH mandates. You should no longer be seeing the PATH message as a blocker to get your refund processed and paid. If held up for other reasons (see below) you will get the applicable message/follow-up action.

The federal IRS refund schedule table below is only for electronically filed returns (e-file) done thorough online tax software providers and assumes your tax return was in order. I.e accepted by the IRS via the WMR tool and status is equal to “Return Received”. Paper filed returns can take considerably longer and would add 1 to 2 weeks to the time frames below. Again, use the the tax refund chart below as a guideline and refer to the IRS WMR tool for specific timeframes related to your return.

Also note that it could take much longer to get your refund if the IRS deems your tax return submission needs further reviews or your identity needs to be verified. This would add two to nine weeks to the date range of your refund delivery date.

For those impacted by tax refund delays (and it will be a lot this year) make sure you also scroll through some of the ~7000 comments below this article from current and prior years for further ideas/support, including some useful tips and tricks to find out your refund status if you are not getting much insight from the IRS WMR tool. So hang in there if you are dealing with extended delays for getting for your federal tax refund. You are not alone.

For those experiencing ongoing issues or delays with their refunds check out this article on “Why is it taking so long to get my refund.” The IRS has said that  phone and walk-in representatives can research the status of your refund only if it’s been 21 days or more since you filed electronically, more than 6 weeks since you mailed your paper return or if the IRS tool Where’s My Refund? directs you to contact them. The WMR tool will also provide an actual refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. If your refund is taking much longer than the above schedule, and assuming your return was accepted by the IRS, please leave a comment below for the benefit of other readers. I can try digging into the reasons if a few people are seeing delays.

Help! My WMR status bar has disappeared – Does this mean by return is still being processed and/or will my refund be delayed?

As many folks have commented, the WMR tracker status bar may disappear or not be shown if your return falls under IRS review after it is received (Status Bar 1: Return Received) because additional information is needed for your return. This can happen even if you previously checked WMR and it showed the status as “Return Received.”  An explanation or instructions will be provided depending on the situation (eg PATH message or see Tax Topic 152 as discussed below)

But don’t panic when this happens. The IRS still has your return but things are essentially on hold until the IRS gets the additional information from you to continue processing your return . You will either get directions on WMR or IRS2Go or the IRS will contact you by mail. Follow the provided instructions and return any additional information ASAP to get your potential refund and reduce any further delays. Talk to your accountant, tax advocate or tax professional if you are not clear on what the IRS is asking for or you don’t get an update after 21 days.

WMR Path, Tax Topic 152 and 151 message

Two of the most common refund related messages showing up on the WMR tool after your tax return is submitted are the PATH message and to Refer to Tax Topic 152. The PATH message relates to the The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH Act of 2015) and is to notify you that the IRS is required to hold refunds claiming the EITC/ACTC until Feb. 15 as described above due to further identity verification.

When you see the “Refer to Tax Topic 152” message it means your refund is being processed and the IRS is directing you its generic refund page for more information. There is not much you can do but wait to see if the IRS finds any issues or requires further verification of your identity or items in your tax return. See the various reader comments below on timing and their experience after getting this and other WMR messages.

A Tax Topic 151 message simply means that you’re getting a tax offset which may result in your refund being less than you expected. The reason for this is that the federal government has “offset” or deducted monies from your tax refund to cover debts you owe other federal agencies. You will get an official IRS letter/report explaining the actual offset and adjustments to your tax return, and details on how to appeal this action – but likely it will delay you getting your refund. While not great news, the silver lining here is that the IRS has processed your return and your adjusted refund (where applicable) should be on its way.

If I can order my IRS tax transcript does it mean I am getting my refund soon?

This question comes up a lot and I have seen a few comments on this suggesting that that if you can order your transcript then your refund is on the way. But this is not a factual statement. Yes there is a correlation because to get a transcript the IRS generally has to have processed your tax return (and refund where applicable). But the IRS is very clear that being able to request a transcript does not mean you will imminently be getting a refund and is among the common myths and misconceptions repeated in social media. The IRS’ official line is that checking the WMR tool is the best and official way to check your refund status.

However I have read a number of comments here and on other tax sites saying that when the WMR site provides limited information on the refund, requesting a free IRS transcript seems to be another way of checking the status of the refund. Generally if you can request a transcript, it means the refund is on the way and the IRS has completed processing of your tax return. But this is all anecdotal evidence.

A note about IRS system issues and refund delays

It appears that the IRS is again having issues with processing returns in a timely manner and so a number of people are seeing delays in getting their refunds or updates in the status of their refund on the WMR tool/app. The IRS has said that all system issues have now been resolved but given the various legacy systems they have and volume of processing I would not be surprised to see system problems arise again this year, which mean delays in processing and paying refunds.

See here for average refund amounts in past tax seasons and refund processing times by state

Amended Tax Return Refund Schedule

While the IRS promises to have regular return refunds processed within 21 days for nine out of ten tax payers, it does take quite a bit longer to receive a refund if you amended your tax return. Generally you will have to wait 8 to 12 weeks more for the IRS to process amended returns since they prioritize regular returns. Also note that the standard”Where’s my refund” service from the IRS does not track amended tax return status’. You need to instead use the IRS tool, Where’s My Amended Return.” You can also access the tool via phone by calling 1-866-464-2050.  Only call the IRS to follow up on delayed amended return refunds after 12 weeks. The number to call is 1-800-829-1040.

I will continue to update this article and encourage you to check back regularly. If the information here was useful please consider sharing this page via Facebook, Twitter or your other social media channels.

This is crazy I filed on January 27th and whenever I try and find out all I get is the refund is still processing. I hope the IRS will be adding interest because if we miss paying our taxes we have a fee or a penalty. I have go nothing in the mail and I think this is crazy, if I owed money they would have already gave me my refund after the IRS got what was owed to them. So freaking annoying.

I had to pay H&R Block out of pocket because I still haven’t received our federal and they didn’t release the fee for H&R Block. Apparently you have 22days for them to paid and then they threaten you with collections.
Still saying processing our refund, and we did ours in Feb.

I filed my taxes on May 14th and my return was received on the 15th, but it is now the 28th and it still has not been accepted. I know it has only been two weeks but by the chart it should have been accepted by now. Just wondering why it is taking so long when my fiances refund was sent to her in a week in the mail and my refund is set direct deposit.

My friend filed the 10th of April or so and got her refund back on the 20th/21st (somewhere In there) we filed on the 13th and it still just says accepted. I hate this waiting game and the general tax topics. I do have a number to speak to a live person and also whatever tax service you use, supposing you efiled, you can call them and they can look into it a little more deeply. Especially if you used h&r block. The IRS is just slow. But with millions and millions of people filing taxes you’d have to think it would go a little slow. My little girl turns 5 on Monday. It sure would be nice to be able to buy her gifts or give her a small party with her brother and sister. Don’t let me down IRS!

That’s nothing. I filed February 3. Here it it’s April 24th. Nothing. They told me that I would have received it on the 13th of March. It’s a good damn joke. I unfortunately lost the number/extension to talk with a live person. Or I’d be calling them daily. I’m surprised no one is protesting. If we owed them money, we would be charged interest if we left them waiting.

E-Filed April 3. Can’t remember the date it was accepted…either the 4 or 5. Bars went away and says “Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.” References Topic 152. I do have an offset, but I’m in Illinois and I still haven’t received my State refund!!!! I’ve had an offset in years past and even if I hadn’t of had it by now, I would at least have a status bar telling me about my refund date. I have nothing besides that message. So i call after my 21 days and still no letter or nothing. i call and speak to an agent… She informs me that at the time i submitted my taxes their system malfunctioned, so therefore it has to be entered manually through their system. today is 4/28/2017 and i still have not received anything. no letter from them and no taxes.

5/6/17 UPDATE: My status bar finally came back this morning and I have a refund date of 5/10. I did call the IRS on day 21 and spoke with a rep whom was helpful. At that time she told me because of the offset, it was being delayed, it was just delayed more this year than ever!!!! So as much as we all want our money, it does require a lot of patience. I would thoroughly suggest calling them if it’s been 21 days.

“We cannot provide any information about your refund. Be sure to
    verify your filing date.”

Not sure what this means but I also sent a paper copy to IRS by mail 2 weeks ago. Lets go Feds pay up already. If the ball was on the other end, we would be fined and imprisoned.

Hello everyone! I am glad to see other people are having issues as well receiving their refund and not just me! I have filed by paper beginning of February and it doesn’t even come up in the system. I even mailed in my check for the small amount I owed to state. It’s really close to the dead line and I am getting worried I might get a letter. I don’t owe anything, but you never know with the government! I’ve tried calling 3 different phone numbers and they all say the same thing. I can’t talk to an actual person. Does anyone have any numbers where you can talk to a representative? Or should I re-mail my tax information in and send in a new check? I’ve made copies of my tax forms so I have proof I did my part and so I can re send them. Thanks for your help!

It doesn’t matter if you paid the State. State and federal are handled by different agencies. Federal is handled by the IRS, State is handled by your state’s department of revenue.

Thanks for the twelve week info. I been waiting 8 weeks now. I see no reason for them to hold in what I loaned them all year. It’s my money not theirs. This makes me consider not withholding at a single rate any longer. Mine says tax topic 152. We received two letters a couple days apart saying they need more time to process. I called and all they could tell me was they needed to verify income on my 1040. Well it’s all the same info submitted from both sides me and the employer. I triple check all info. They got tax payments from my checks in a timely manner so why am I still waiting on my money back?

I e-filed using the IRS website on March 2nd. Here it is now April 7th and WMR still at “your taxes have been received and are being processed”. This has been stuck like this since since March 10th. There is no excuse. I have not received a single letter in the mail or a call asking for more information. I received my state tax within 10 days. However, my federal is still in limbo apparently. My husband and I have way too many expenses we need to get caught up on, so this is devistating.

I filed and return was accepted Jan. 23, 2017. WMR has shown “your return has been received and it is being processed” ever since. I have had the same job for six years, same dependents and filing statues for 10 years, and do not itemize. It has been well over 60 days and I would like to know where my return is? This is highly unacceptable as the government takes their cut out from our earned wages weekly with no hesitation and now that they owe people money they are taking far longer then stated in their own published schedules. Whats the hold up?

Yeah, you do know that if you got your federal but not your state that you should be calling your state Department of Revenue, right? I mean, they mail the state return checks or directly deposit the money to your bank account if that is the option you chose. You don’t call the IRS for state refunds. At least use common sense.

I filed mine on Jan 11th and it was accepted on Jan 23rd. WMR has been showing “We have received your tax return and it is being processed” since around Feb 1. Here we are 11 1/2 weeks later and it’s STILL “being processed”. I called the IRS a few weeks ago and was told SOMEONE is working on it, but there is no timeframe or additional information available. My attorney then advised me NOT to call the IRS because they will delay your return even longer each time you call. Real nice….

She took down my number and said that it could take up to 30-60 days to hear back. Wtf!

Good Morning, I have the same problem with receiving my State refund which I filed online (Tax Act) I was approved for both the day after I filed.(Feb 19th) Got the same runaround you got with the IRS and WMR. My bills are piling up and I just bought a new car almost 4 months ago and I made a loan through the bank of my insurance company. My bills are piling up as well. This could potentially mess up my credit(which is in excellent standing-for now) and get my car repossessed. I am so angry right now. They don’t realize that there are REAL PEOPLE WITH BILLS TO PAY behind those numbers!

I filed my return on 2/23/17, lost my bar on 3/11/17, I began to worry and called IRS, Agent advised that they needed my 8962 and 1095 form and that it’s OK for me send the forms before I received the letter from the IRS. I faxed the forms on 3/14/17, received the IRS letter the next day. On 3/22/17, I lost my refund amount on WMR but Topic 152 is shown. I called IRS and they could not confirm with me if they have received my fax. IRS Agent advised to fax it in again, this time with the letter sent from the IRS. Refaxed on 3/24/17.

Has anyone been in this situation? I just really want to know if they’ve received my fax and if my refund is coming anytime soon.

I truly believe that if one filed the EZ form or 1040 but minimal deduction ( such as only tuition and or deduction for being, say, an educator), those refunds were processed and paid out. The more complicated and detailed the 1040 (e.g., lots of deductions, credits, mortgage and property expense deductions, tuition and educator credits, licensing tax deductions, spousal injury claim so one spouse doesn’t have to be responsible for other spouse’s tax debt), the far less likely you’ll see your refund anytime soon. I filed Feb 1, 2017. Accepted Feb 2. It’s now March 23, 2017. No refund. 9 weeks and going strong without a refund. Lol.

I feel for everybody here. I put my paper return in the mail on 2/13 with delivery confirmation (I didn’t file earlier because I am claiming both the EIC and the ACTC). It was confirmed delivered by the post office on 2/15, and a week later the WMR tool showed received. It stayed that way for 2 1/2 weeks when the bars dropped off and the generic “still processing your return” showed up. Thankfully my amount expected never went away. I am a pastor and our ministry taxes are a nightmare to begin with (literally have to create our own forms because the IRS doesn’t have one for us) being an employee for income tax purposes and self employed for social security purposes. I say that because my taxes always take a little longer, but this year is ridiculous. I usually have a week wait between the time the bars fall off and the refund approved. We are beginning our third week since the bars fell off, and as per my phone call I have to wait 6 weeks rather than 21 days since I filed paper return (even though they received it). It’s frustrating for me because I can never file electronically so I will always have a longer wait. Like everyone else, I made purchases expecting my return within a month, and my wife had a car accident that caused more repair bills. Now I have payments to make while waiting on my return. I feel for all of you guys and I pray your wait comes to a quick end. My only advice is the advice I gave myself for next year. I am adjusting my withholding (for a pastor that means changing my estimated tax payments) to a level that makes my refund minimal (or nonexistent) if I take the earned income credit and child tax credits into account. That puts more money in my pocket now, and makes this process less stressful for me next year because I won’t be expecting this huge amount of money.

I am sick and tired of checking the IRS Website daily only to see the same ” Your returns are being processed” verbiage. I have no dependents, so why am I still waiting for return. For the last 15 years I have filed the first week of February and always got my refund in 3 weeks. I guess this year is different?? Maybe this is a IRS SLOWDOWN while they gain interest on our refund money? Call the IRS and get a computer telling me what the refund website already says. Something smells fishy here?

Okay you poor guys!! I feel all of your pain. So i filed on 2/25 and was accepted literally that same day. I claimed my son for the Child Tax Credit and of course i recieved the EIC. Im totally stressed. I live with my terminally ill mother (whom i take care of) my 7 year old, my husband, and i am avout 6 months pregnant with my daughter. I need this money to get out of an enormous hole of debt caused by a car accident on January 26th that has left me a pile of bills. Im so stretched to the limit and so i am very very frustrated by now. As i said, i filed and it was accepted on 2/25.. my WMR tool has not budged at all!!! It just is stuck at “return received” and the very annoying sentence regarding the 21 days it usually takes for refunds but “may take longer under certain circumstances”… what a load. Then i get the “topic 152” and a bunch of the same information over and over. I have tried to get a hold of the IRS and finally spoke to someone who told me “it hasnt been 21 days and if you dont have anything by Monday (March 20th) please call us back”! I am so frustrated! I have never had a tax return take so long. I have college expenses on there like student loans and a pell grant but i dropped out of college when my mom became ill. So im confused. Is my college holding it up? Is my EIC holding it up?? My CTC?? Or is the IRS just doing this for no reason and making me dig deeper and deeper into debt. I would appreciate anyone who can give me answers and or advice. All i havd been told is “be patient” well anyone who is like me and stretched to the limit on their finances can understand thay patience flys out the window when you are desperate and everyone around you has been getting their returns! Just for extra info I filed 2/25 using Turbo Tax Free and i live in Nevada where we do not get state taxes.. and again my return was accepted maybe an hour after i filed on 2/25. I appreciate all of your help, and again good luck!

The number I have found will not give me a real person, just a computer that tells me what I already know “return still being processed.” I too have a child and EIC but was accepted the end of January and even with the processing not starting until February 15, should have received my refund by now!

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: “Refund”, or it will send you to an automated phone line. So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for “personal income tax” instead. Then press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.

      2. Ashlee

18008291040 okay so this is a process. You have to call and press 1 for english.. then press the option for PERSONAL TAX INFO not the one for tax status or anything like that. Then the option for tax history or payment and then the option for all other questions. It takes a lot of button presses to get there and finally you will verify your ssn and info and get a live person. Probably a rude one at that, which is what I got. Please note that all they will say is “sorry i cant do anything” if it hasnt been 21 days.. personal experience..

Wow, I thought that I was waiting too long for my refund until I came on here. Some of you have been waiting way too long. I filed both state and federal on 3/7 and for federal, the message changed to your return was accepted with one bar. 3/11 the bars disappeared and now it says your return is still being processed and a refund date will be provided when available with article 152. I feel so helpless, not knowing what is going on. My state website just says checking for errors and nothing is required from you at this point. If I don’t receive either my state or federal refund by Monday 3/20, then I will be calling someone. This is ridiculous. It’s my money and I need it to pay for bills. It’s a decent amount of money too. Why does the middle class get so screwed these days? Screw this country.

For federal yes it’s 21 days but it doesn’t say that on my state website, and even if they try to tell me that, i’m not taking no for an answer. My mother got her state refund in 5 days. Monday will be day 11 for me.

Why is it that the honest and legitimate people have to suffer because of the many dishonest.people. How many of us are waiting for our money and we need it now, not tomorrow. I know we will have a long wait and this is the first time due to financial hardship that we will have to miss our mortgage payment.

Me too! Filed and accepted Feb 11th. Called after 21 days And was told I was under 60 day review. Received a generic cp05 letter around March 10th. Tax advocate had me send in my w2’s because it looked like my employer failed to do so. They were submitted to IRS on Match 17th. Also received I’d verification letter on March 17th. Called and completed that… the nice lady on the phone told me she cleared that part but there is still a freeze on my refund because the IRS is not finished reviewing it. Here we are March 24th, still no update. The tax advocate office said they should be finished by April 23rd!?! Really? What was the point of asking them to step in?

I filed my taxes early February and was given a return date of March 2nd. At the end of February I received a notice stating if I didn’t file 2013 taxes my 2016 refund would be withheld. So, next I filed before March 3rd overnight through USPS and haven’t heard anything from the IRS. Also when I call I never get an answer.

My son sent his in 1/30 and got his back by 2/16. No, neither of us filed any different as we usually do so there is a problem somewhere! Return was e-filed with TurboTax and accepted Feb 8th. Have not received an update as of March 14th. The IRS site still says “your tax return is still being processed, a refund date will be provided when available.” On March 10th, I called a number that actually connected me with a real person at the IRS and after a vigorous verification process ( tax returns have multiple addresses because I’ve lived many places) they still couldn’t tell me what was taking so long to complete my processing. No letter, no anything.

Then gave the same response they always give which is wait 30 days to call again and it can take another 60 days………Needless to say it still says processing and no date given. I called and answered specific private questions only i would know. they said it was great and they would process it. I called back when no change. I spoke to a woman that said the first woman didnt verify correctly and id recieve another letter. I called back again and they said the second lady was wrong and it was verified correctly and id get a letter after the 13th of march. I recieved it and it said i have to just do nothing and wait till april 27th now. It states after that ill get a check or another letter.
It seems to me they have their heads up their butts and are trying to just buy time because we dont have the man power or smarts working for the irs. So two letters and three people spoken to and all its saying is wait. It really dies suck that nothing can be done about it.

Filed my taxed on 2/3. Was unaware that my husband still had his health insurance after we had canceled it the year prior, but it was valid until mid year 2016 without our knowledge. The refund bar disappeared like 2/20 or so. Received letter on 2/24 asking for 1095 A form and 8962 form. Faxed it on 2/25 with the accounting firm that I had originally done my taxes with. Was told it would take 6-8 weeks for refund. As of 3/11 the topic152 link appeared and the amount that was originally stated there disappeared, wasn’t like that on 3/10. Yes bills are still being paid and I know I shouldn’t count on it but I need to get my new glasses. Mine been taped up for 3 weeks now!

Filed my sons the same way, had to file and amended federal return because he got a w2 for a short job we forgot he had and he got his direct deposit AND his paper federal correction amount check by mid-Feb. My fiance on the other hand….filed his taxes Feb 4 with TT, was rejected once because of a typo so I fixed if and it was accepted the next day. He got his state refund a week and a half later…..but here it is March 10th and all the WRM app keeps saying is that his return is “being processed”. No code, nothing. Hes getting frustrated and so am I.

I received that letter where I have verify who I am as well. So I called and verified who I was March 1 and I asked why do I have to verify who I am because I had to submit stuff for them to continue processing my amended return for 2015. The young lady told me that I was randomly selected and that everyone does not have to verify who they are. But we did the verification process and I was good to go and that I should receive my return soon. Well I still have not received it. So I called this morning and a nice gentleman by the name of Gary told me that my federal taxes was received and then placed on hold until I verified who I was. When I called and verified and passed verification, my refund began processing. So now I have to wait up to an additional 9 weeks before I receive my refund.

In all honesty, the IRS does not care about rent that needs to be paid or any other bills. The IRS does not care that you are homeless or anything else. It is sad that it has come to this because people are out their committing fraud on their taxes and the rest of us honest people have to suffer because of their actions. I served my country for 12 years before being medically discharged due to injury. I worked hard for my money and I pay my taxes. We honest should not have to go through this!

I mailed them out the next day. I called the IRS a few days ago to see what’s taking so long as it’s now March 9th and they could not even tell me if they received the forms or not. They did however tell me that the WMR tool will never change until the date I get my refund under this situation. They told me that there is nothing they can’t even research what is going on with my refund until 8 weeks has passed if I still have not gotten it. I feel like I’m in Limbo.

This happened to me last year, and turbo tax assured me that this year it would not be an issue and it will all be attached to the return filed electronically. which it seems this year i did not have this issue. But last year the irs suggested when I spoke to them on the phone that to fax it only with the letter. I suggest you call and get a tax advocate and have them check for you. Dont fax it now until you know from the advocate that it is not there.. My son’s is in the same wait like you. His 1095A was incorrect so we entered the info the correct way and called marketplace to send an amended one to the irs. They had it stated he had marketplace insurance longer than he did so we could not show the tax credit for those months or it would of came back as more refund in his case which they down the road would of caught. so now the consequence of doing it correctly is wait on still a letter which you did get but he has not yet! Hope your processes soon and refund is sent.

I filed my taxes 2/17 with HRBlock.com, with direct deposit for my refund. As of 2/18 they were showing as accepted on the HRBlock website. I checked a few days later on the WMR site, it said processing, no bars, nothing else. It has been that way ever since. It is 21 days today, nothing. :(

I called the IRS international number as I am currently in Mexico City. I’m actually stranded here and without any money. The IRS accepted my return on 1/17. My WMR has said “We have received your refund and it is being processed,” since 2/15. I did have the EIC so I’m aware refunds weren’t to be received till the week of 2/27. The representative said I should have received a 4464c letter in the mail last week. I have not. My housemates have been checking for me. He also said no action is needed an my return looks fine. I asked to be referred to a Tax Advocate for a 911 situation. He did so and was very thorough and helpful. I should be hearing from an advocate in the next few days. I’ll keep you all posted. Fingers crossed for everyone to get the money they need in the time they need.

I filed and it was received and accepted on Jan 17th. It’s now march 9th and still nothing. Says it’s still processing. I called and talked to an IRS rep. And they said there was a system error on their end. Nothing wrong with return and can take up to 8 weeks to fix itself. But no action can be taken until then which will be April 19th. It’s 8 weeks from when the error occurred which was on feb 22nd.

You can call the IRS 1800 # ending in 1040 and talk to a rep and the will let you know if the. 8962 form corrected your return. And from the date it was corrected it will take up to 8 weeks for your return to finish getting processed. They say its usually not that long. I just had the same problem and sent the correct paperwork back to them on Feb 15th and it got corrected by the IRS march 8th which was yesterday. Im hoping its not a 8 week wait. If I don’t recieve my return my may 3rd. The IRS said to call back. We’ll see fingers crossed. Hope this was helpful.

I waited until today and then called…she looked up the status of my case created for me on last week, and told me that the IRS had already responded to my case yesterday, and removed my hold this morning and inserted the code for the deposit (846) THIS MORNING AS WELL!!! She said it takes about 4 to 5 business days for WMR to update with date after code has been inputted..by next wed I should have a date (or money) and stated to call just to follow up! I am going through the same thing, only its my 2013 they are waiting for. I was able to fax in my 2013 though since I mailed my initial 2013 1040 to the wrong IRS address. I would call and see if they accept a fax for your return. I was told that as soon as they see I don’t owe anything on my 2013 they will immediately(the IRS’ version of immediately) release my 2016 deposit. The fax takes 5-7 for them to receive, mailed in can take 6 to 12 weeks for processing.

You should have received a CP63 letter. There is a number in the right upper corner of the paper that has a number to call. I am not sure if the number is the same for everyone but since your issue is like mine, this is the number they gave me 1-866-897-3315. The rep was nice and helpful. HOWEVER, I was on hold for over 2 hours. You have to ASK them what you want to know, they will not give you information.

I decided to call today and they told me it was under review but they’re done and suppose to be releasing my funds today, a hard check for some reason. Even though they released my funds it doesn’t mean they’re gonna cut a check today and it could take up to 4 weeks to receive it. If I don’t receive it in 4 weeks I was advised to call back . Was just informed by IRS that my returns are held for identity verification BUT they said they sent the required letter to the wrong address–and I have to wait for a new one (2 weeks to send), wait for an appointment, and then 9 weeks to process. I’m now three more months away. Unemployed, overdrawn, broken. The only option to provide the money to take care of my kids is my life insurance–I have to provide for my kids, by any means necessary. I’m afraid this is my only option–I’ve have thought this through and see no other way. I did everything the way I was supposed to, but they didn’t–and now my family is going to pay an incredible price. I just can’t do this anymore.

The posts in here have been helpful–thank you. I hope everyone’s issues work out and refunds start appearing–and I truly hope none of you folks feel compelled to take such drastic actions as I have decided to. Best of luck.

David….I’m not sure if you have a relationship with God but I just want you to know that God is a provider. Keep your head up and trust and believe that death is not the answer. Quick money goes fast. A life insurance policy payout will not sustain your family forever, but you as the head of your family will. God is amazing and your life is more valuable that money. I must say, suicidal thoughts is from the devil and the Devil is a liar. Hold on, your money is on the way. In the mean time don’t give up. God has a plan for everyone and if you haven’t gotten to know him, try him. He’s a great friend, doctor and provider. I hope and pray you are able to receive this message in time and know that life is more valuable than money…..May God bless you and your family with all that you need.

Just got off the phone with the IRS about 10 minutes ago. Finished return on Jan. 19th via Turbo Tax. Cust. Service Rep told me that they didn’t start accepting returns this year until Jan. 29th (first I’d heard of that.) Also was told that I should have a letter any day now requesting an additional piece of information, but of course she couldn’t tell me what that was and it couldn’t be handled over the phone (would have been too easy.) All the while I’ve been checking WMR multiple times per day and have had the same message since Feb. 16th “we have received your return and it is being processed.” The ultimate kicker is that this action required by the letter I’m receiving could extend my timeline out 30-45 days! Unbelievable.

Called the IRS two weeks ago and they told us they were sending out a letter Mar. 6th (today). We called again this morning and they said it wouldn’t get here until the 13th.

Because my husband just lost his job, we called the tax advocate service and were denied help because when we filed we had applied for a refund advance loan (which we were denied for). So, now we’re most likely going to be evicted or at least without utilities with the small children in the house. What can we do? Is there even anything we can do?

“still processing…will provide a refund date when available”–the IRS is “still processing” but I’m still bleeding money. In all honesty, I am down to $130 in the bank, $43 in my pocket, and a couple of decent personal belongings remaining to take to a pawn shop. My 13 year-old actually tried to lend me the $300 he has saved (he lives with his mother)–I almost cried (but I was also really proud of him). He actually is worth more than I am at the moment. It’s hard enough day in and day out to live this way, but right now it is compounded with a feeling that my government is failing me. I might be unemployed right now, but I earned that refund last year when I had a good job–that’s my money. If I had worked with the unbelievable (and inexcusable) inefficiency and insensitivity of the IRS, I would I have been fired before the end of my first day in my job. Worst part about that is, no one with any power/influence/compassion will care enough to hold this bloated government agency responsible. This might seem like a strong statement to some, but I feel that unquestionably our government has failed us. Of the people, by the people, and for the people–what a joke.

So this is the message I have on IRS2GO

There is a delay in processing your tax return.
If you have questions or need additional information, please have the following on hand when you call: A copy of this page. A copy of your tax return. The Social Security Number, Filing Status, and refund amount claimed on your return. Any notice that you have received concerning your refund.
Please mention reference number 1541 to the IRS Customer Service Representative
IRS Hours of Service: Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On WMR…there is a exclamation mark and the word ACTION.

    Any comments?

My taxes where excepted January 23 2017 and they have been saying processing every sense. I called the hot line on February 17th and a lady wouldn’t tell me anything. She asked me if I got a letter or a message. And I have not received any notification also she told me not to call back until 4 weeks later to the day I called . today is March 5 th and my return still says processing . When will I get a notice? Or will I even get my refund ?

I am still waiting for my refund or a notice on my refund . It has been 9 weeks now and heard nothing. I finally called a tax advocate to see if they could help and I no is they held mine to verify my income . That should tell the IRS I am in need of my money to live on . In stead they hold it and don’t tell me nothing so it will even take that many more weeks to get it . This system need to get fixed because it’s not working for the poor people like me .

A friend of mine did this for her Louisiana state return:

“They are holding to draw as much interest as they can before they have to release it. I’d be calling them every morning, find one person by name, and ask them everyday where your money is. I did that in Louisiana once, her name was Alice, lol that I remember that!! Anyway got my check five days later. I called her every morning for a week and on Friday I said I’ll talk to you Monday!! She no, you don’t have to!! “

I still haven’t heard or received anything yet. I filed on 1/20 got accepted on 1/23. Called the tax advocate they transfer me to the IRS. I asked what the hold up was after still seeing they had received my return and still being processed. They told me that if I haven’t heard anything by 3/17 to call back. They also told me that I was not expected to get any letters, but they are taking a lot longer than they should with processing.

I got a Tax 151 your appeal rights and before I filed my taxes I had an offset of 300 dollars to Department of workforce Development. After I filed my taxes I payed it off. Now when I call offset line I have no debt owed. Are they still taking my money even though I paid it and will my bar come back?
