2020 IRS Tax Refund Processing Schedule and Direct Deposit Cycle Chart for 2019 Return Filings

Below is the latest table showing estimated tax season refund payment dates based on past refund cycles and IRS guidelines. It shows the date your refund will be processed and paid based on the week your return is accepted by the IRS. For refund dates specific to your tax filing go to the Where is my Refund (WMR) page or IRS2Go mobile application. Also note that for the upcoming tax season, existing IRS tables and rules are in place.

Note that Jan 27th is when the IRS E-file system will start processing electronic and paper tax returns. Even if you submitted before this date, don’t expect refund processing and payments to take place beforehand.

EITC and ACTC Related Tax Refund Delays (PATH) Update: As in previous tax seasons a number of tax payers will see refund processing delays. The IRS had already announced that it will have to hold/delay refund payments for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) due to additional anti-fraud safeguards/reviews under newly enacted laws (PATH Act). But the IRS is now processing refunds which were originally being held up due to PATH mandates. You should no longer be seeing the PATH message as a blocker to get your refund processed and paid. If held up for other reasons (see below) you will get the applicable message/follow-up action.

The federal IRS refund schedule table below is only for electronically filed returns (e-file) done thorough online tax software providers and assumes your tax return was in order. I.e accepted by the IRS via the WMR tool and status is equal to “Return Received”. Paper filed returns can take considerably longer and would add 1 to 2 weeks to the time frames below. Again, use the the tax refund chart below as a guideline and refer to the IRS WMR tool for specific timeframes related to your return.

Also note that it could take much longer to get your refund if the IRS deems your tax return submission needs further reviews or your identity needs to be verified. This would add two to nine weeks to the date range of your refund delivery date.

For those impacted by tax refund delays (and it will be a lot this year) make sure you also scroll through some of the ~8000 comments below this article from current and prior years for further ideas/support, including some useful tips and tricks to find out your refund status if you are not getting much insight from the IRS WMR tool. So hang in there if you are dealing with extended delays for getting for your federal tax refund. You are not alone.

For those experiencing ongoing issues or delays with their refunds check out this article on “Why is it taking so long to get my refund.” The IRS has said that  phone and walk-in representatives can research the status of your refund only if it’s been 21 days or more since you filed electronically, more than 6 weeks since you mailed your paper return or if the IRS tool Where’s My Refund? directs you to contact them. The WMR tool will also provide an actual refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. If your refund is taking much longer than the above schedule, and assuming your return was accepted by the IRS, please leave a comment below for the benefit of other readers. I can try digging into the reasons if a few people are seeing delays.

Help! My WMR status bar has disappeared – Does this mean by return is still being processed and/or will my refund be delayed?

As many folks have commented, the WMR tracker status bar may disappear or not be shown if your return falls under IRS review after it is received (Status Bar 1: Return Received) because additional information is needed for your return. This can happen even if you previously checked WMR and it showed the status as “Return Received.”  An explanation or instructions will be provided depending on the situation (eg PATH message or see Tax Topic 152 as discussed below)

But don’t panic when this happens. The IRS still has your return but things are essentially on hold until the IRS gets the additional information from you to continue processing your return . You will either get directions on WMR or IRS2Go or the IRS will contact you by mail. Follow the provided instructions and return any additional information ASAP to get your potential refund and reduce any further delays. Talk to your accountant, tax advocate or tax professional if you are not clear on what the IRS is asking for or you don’t get an update after 21 days.

WMR Path, Tax Topic 152 and 151 message

Two of the most common refund related messages showing up on the WMR tool after your tax return is submitted are the PATH message and to Refer to Tax Topic 152. The PATH message relates to the The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (PATH Act of 2015) and is to notify you that the IRS is required to hold refunds claiming the EITC/ACTC until Feb. 15 as described above due to further identity verification.

When you see the “Refer to Tax Topic 152” message it means your refund is being processed and the IRS is directing you its generic refund page for more information. There is not much you can do but wait to see if the IRS finds any issues or requires further verification of your identity or items in your tax return. See the various reader comments below on timing and their experience after getting this and other WMR messages.

A Tax Topic 151 message simply means that you’re getting a tax offset which may result in your refund being less than you expected. The reason for this is that the federal government has “offset” or deducted monies from your tax refund to cover debts you owe other federal agencies. You will get an official IRS letter/report explaining the actual offset and adjustments to your tax return, and details on how to appeal this action – but likely it will delay you getting your refund. While not great news, the silver lining here is that the IRS has processed your return and your adjusted refund (where applicable) should be on its way.

If I can order my IRS tax transcript does it mean I am getting my refund soon?

This question comes up a lot and I have seen a few comments on this suggesting that that if you can order your transcript then your refund is on the way. But this is not a factual statement. Yes there is a correlation because to get a transcript the IRS generally has to have processed your tax return (and refund where applicable). But the IRS is very clear that being able to request a transcript does not mean you will imminently be getting a refund and is among the common myths and misconceptions repeated in social media. The IRS’ official line is that checking the WMR tool is the best and official way to check your refund status.

However I have read a number of comments here and on other tax sites saying that when the WMR site provides limited information on the refund, requesting a free IRS transcript seems to be another way of checking the status of the refund. Generally if you can request a transcript, it means the refund is on the way and the IRS has completed processing of your tax return. But this is all anecdotal evidence.

A note about IRS system issues and refund delays

It appears that the IRS is again having issues with processing returns in a timely manner and so a number of people are seeing delays in getting their refunds or updates in the status of their refund on the WMR tool/app. The IRS has said that all system issues have now been resolved but given the various legacy systems they have and volume of processing I would not be surprised to see system problems arise again this year, which mean delays in processing and paying refunds.

See here for average refund amounts in past tax seasons and refund processing times by state

Amended Tax Return Refund Schedule

While the IRS promises to have regular return refunds processed within 21 days for nine out of ten tax payers, it does take quite a bit longer to receive a refund if you amended your tax return. Generally you will have to wait 8 to 12 weeks more for the IRS to process amended returns since they prioritize regular returns. Also note that the standard”Where’s my refund” service from the IRS does not track amended tax return status’. You need to instead use the IRS tool, Where’s My Amended Return.” You can also access the tool via phone by calling 1-866-464-2050.  Only call the IRS to follow up on delayed amended return refunds after 12 weeks. The number to call is 1-800-829-1040.

I will continue to update this article and encourage you to check back regularly. If the information here was useful please consider sharing this page via Facebook, Twitter or your other social media channels.

I filed with Turbo Tax on 2/11/16. Taxes were said to be approved a few minutes later on the same day. I was stuck on one bar for what seemed like forever. I saw many people saying that once you can request your return transcript then your refund shouldn’t be far behind. I was finally able to request my transcript yesterday (2/26/16) & woke up today with two bars and a DDD of 3/2/16. Which is my 21st day. Just be patient guys! Hope this helped!

Filed on 2/1 verified ID on 2/18 called IRS on the 2/19 was told they dont need any further. Info it could take up to 6 weeks. Called back 2/21 told them to give me exact details of what they saw on the screen. ID verification passed, no errors, done processing refund was unpostable. I asked her what did that mean she said that an agent has to manually process my refund because the Master File (computer) would not process it because of the Identity crap. After that I told her to expedite my refund because I can’t wait for 6 weeks. She paused and said she couldn’t so I told her thanks and have a nice day! Today I woke up with my bars back saying approved and I will have my Mulah by 3/2

Hey guys! I just checked WMR and my bars came back saying my money will be sent on the 2nd and to call back if not in by the 7th. I verified my identity on the 19th of this month. One of the most stressful tax experiences ever!

when did you originally file your taxes?and how did you find out that you needed to verify your identity cuz I filed on February 11th and I’m almost at my 21 days but has not called the IRS since they say not to call before your 21 days are up and I have not been given any other instructions of anything to do nor have I received any letter saying I needed to verify any identity or anything to that matter. if you could please give me some input cuz I need some help here.

Started filing February 5th, and got rejected 3 times. Contacted someone on taxact and got everything figured out, and filed February 9th, accepted same day. I got a letter in the mail last week from the state needing to verify my identity, but still no status change on where’s my refund. Who do I call to find out where they are with my refund? As it’s only 3 days from being 21 days out..

My bars disappeared like 3 to 5 days after they popped up and I was only on received. And then they went away and haven’t come back. Wed is my 21st day… but I’m calling Monday and seeing whats going on. I got the final email from Turbo tax saying Congrats and thank u for filing with them and after the problems I had with them last year I wasn’t going to use them but I did…trying to save some money….but now I’m waiting forever on my taxes and I called Turbo tax and they said everything was correct and my taxes we’re accepted by the IRS but I still don’t have my money.

so you’re still saying on the Where’s My Refund website that it still says still processing and a refund date will be provided when available but when you called the automated line it gave you a direct deposit date? Cuz I filed on February 11th and still have the same message on the where’s my refund but I haven’t called the automated system to see if it says anything different. I figured it was all the same info. if you could reply to this and please let me know what steps you took to get this situated and if you had to verify your identity or not cuz I have not gotten a letter in the mail nor have I gotten any other instructions saying that I need to do anything other than wait but I’m not at my 21 days so even calling the IRS they’re just going to give me some stupid answer that won’t help at all but if I need to verify my identity I would like to know so I can do it sooner rather than later. did you have to verify your identity or anything or you just found out through the automated system that you have a direct deposit date?

I filed on 2/4 and today I was told by the IRS that I had to send in my 1095C form from my current employer. They said they sent a letter on 2/25/16 and to wait for the letter, get the info they are requiring, and fax it to the number that is on the letter. This is ridiculous. It would be different if I didnt have insurance via my employer. Why cant I show them all my check stubs that shows money being taken out of my check for my health insurance. Im confused as to why this is such a big deal. If you all can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated.

That does not sound right if you had not filed a 1095-A and 8962 form it would hold up your refund however it says right on the website that 1095-C -B. Are not required and will not create a issue . Either way do not panic , you will get the letter with instructions and numbers on it .FOLLOW EVERY INSTRUCTION TO A T. ! And you will get your refund within a week . I know HR BLOCK FUCKED UP MY SHIT AND WE HAD TO RECONCILE WITH 1095-A and 8962 …… WHATEVER YOU DO …DO NOT AMMEND YOUR TAXES DO NOT SEND FOR 1040X or you WILL BE WAITING 12 weeks min. Only send page 2 if the numbers change .

I see familiar stories related to mine but not quite like mine. Has anyone elses status read “mailed out”? I filed my taxes 1/24/16 efile through turbo tax as many of you. It was accepteded the following day and I also even had it mailed out on 2/12/16. From the internal revenue office and the town I live at should only be a three day mailing process. I have yet to receive my check in the mail. Everyone else filed after me and living in my area have received theirs. I called numerous of times and spoken to live reps so that they can just read exactly what the IRS tool shows me. I am beyond annoyed and stressed. They tell my I am unable to do anything until march 11th. Could there be something wrong? Did it get lost in the mail? Am I just too anticipated to receive it? When should I really be concerned?!? Help!

OK so update … If you call them tell them your worried about your identity rumors… They will tell you exact date they will release your return to who ever you filed through then they direct deposit. I was told March 2 to be released from them to turbo tax then up to turbo to release to me.. I filed 2/3 excepted 2/4 my 21 day was the 24 . So hope this eases people’s mind .. she said everything was correct the systems have been down a day and presidents day also. I will update March 2 for those who haven’t gotten a return and with out status bars like I was ..

I e-filed my tax return on February 7, it was rejected because I had one thing wrong which was the agi for the previous year and corrected it on February 8th and it was was also accepted on the same day, but may status still shows accepted and that it is being processed. I believe it should have changed status by now! There is nothing complicated on my refund and the refund amount is only $250 so why is it taking so long

    Just my 2 cents:
Being able to order your return transcript DOES NOT mean a damn thing. I was able to order mine on 2/12 and still no refund. That info is just a myth and not a fact. If anyone can post a link where it is set in stone I will gladly read it and take back my previous statement.

The refund amount might have something to do with it. My refund is a little less than 12k. The Irs rep told me I had a credit on my account(which is suppose to be a good thing) and everything was good on my return. She told me my refund was way above the average amount. lol

I efiled with a CPA on the 12th and here I am 2 weeks later with my thumb in my @ss still waiting on a direct deposit. I called the IRS and they are saying that if you aren’t at a minimum 3 weeks out from filing they will not look into it over the phone.

By now, you already know the number to call the IRS, if you don’t know, the 800 number is 800.829.1040

This is the trick to to get a speak to a live person at the IRS when you call the 800 number:

      1. call 800.829.1040

      2. when you hear the recording press select the option ‘information about personal taxes’

      3. after the machine send you to the next menu, just let the recording end, and then it will transfer you to a live person

*NOTE: if these steps do not work for you, continue to try Other Options below. One way or another, you will get a live agent.

I called and got a hold of a live rep this way just stay holding don’t get fooled into choosing any options after you choose the option on personal taxes you will wait around 10-15 minutes before a live person answers

What does that mean? A credit? They did elaborate on what that meant….like you got your refund or anything like that? What does it say if you go on WMR? Mine still says”processing and a refund date will be given when available”. Thats what a lot of people have on theirs…but I’m not quite at my 21 days yet but my bf filed with liberty tax and had his refund in 15 days…I used Turbo tax again and I had major problems last year so I’m hoping that I’m just having to wait a bit longer to get mine…since I filed on February 11…I need my money and was hopeful that things would be OK this year but not looking good so far.

If you file, and you owe back taxes, student loan or child support, there’s not a problem because the irs has no problem updating the wmr status saying your refund has been taken for the following….. But I see that so many are in this boat of waiting over a month and no info. These returns should be put first or atleast give some explanation. H&R who did my taxes on the 26th of January said to just wait it out because if you contact them they’re gonna tell you whatever. I’m just done this year with the way that this has been handled. I was told to continue to check the bars, that disappeared 2 weeks ago until they reappear and move to approved……

I filed using Turbo Tax Intuit on Feb. 1 and opted to have turbo tax withdraw the serving fee from my return. That same day I am alerted that state and federal taxes were accepted. On Feb. 22 I receive a 4883c from the IRS to verify my identity. I call the number, try to verify over the phone and I’m told I will have to go to a service center in person to verify. I am instructed to bring my 2014 and 2015 tax returns, 2 forms of ID, my SS card, and a billing statement.

My appt with the IRS is 2/24, the rep thinks my identity was compromised, bc he sees another routing number aside from mine on my return to a bank in Utah. He approves my return, but decides to issue me a check. Apparently I will/may see a return in 9 weeks.

I call Turbo Tax when I get home to alert them not realizing until I talk to their consumer protection center, that account was their 3rd party bank that I had agreed to when I filed my taxes. No identity theft committed. I couldnt return to the IRS office, nor call the rep to see if we could reverse everything and go back to DD. Wish we had both read through my return thoroughly.

I am so tired of the BS with the IRS this tax season. They really put a lot of people in a huge financial bind this year. Families depend on that money for some financial relief for all the struggle throughout the year and then they FUCK us in the ass with no vaseline (just saying)………. I got married December 31, 2015 so I filed jointly with my husband. However, they audited him last year bc he’s not on my daughters birth certificate. We are married and that makes him Olivia’s step father right? They took his whole income tax last year which we were supposed to get close to 6 grand back and they only sent him 600.00 we used it and we owe them the 600.00… Does it sound like I’m being audited and if I do get audited, will we get the money they didn’t give us last year? Help!!!

Did you ask if you needed to verify your ID. Seems most who go through this have had to verify their Identity, and the IRS does not seem to mail out the notice to do this until after the 21 days have pasted, in my case they sent it a week after the 21 days (filed 25 January, still waiting)

I’ve been watching the thread here and my story isn’t much different. Filed & accepted 2/8, still at 1st bar and unable to order transcript for current year. Filed for 3 family members on 2/14 and all 3 received theirs over the past 2 days (23rd & 24th DD). Beyond frustrating!

Interestingly, I just read several articles regarding the IRS computer problems earlier this season and the IRS was hacked. Over 400,000 social security number attempts to get efile pins with 100,000 of them being successful. Of course, because of their lack of updated cyber security that allowed this to happen, that’s another 100,000 flagged for potential identity theft. Supposedly, if you are one of that 100,000 the IRS is sending a letter to notify you, but based on how many people on this thread that have found out by calling in after the 21 day mark about being flagged to verify their identity that have yet to ever receive their letter about it I guess they will arrive months from now, if ever.

This tax season is a hot mess and this is just another way things have obviously have gone wrong and slowed down the process.

When I got to the 10 Feb I called and they said that everything looked good but they were still running the security check, and if I did not get my refund within a week to contact them, I waited two I called them on the 22nd the call kept getting dropped. I finally got through on the 23rd and got someone who again told me that my claim looked good but to call back tomorrow. I called again this morning and I am now being told that a letter was MAILED OUT two weeks ago and that I had to March 7 to reply, and get this I might have to amend my return. For 35 days everyone there told me that everything was okay and now suddenly there is problem on the 36th day and a letter was mailed out two weeks ago. Which I still have not received. I am thinking of filing a congressional over this. I am now behind in my responsibility’s and obligations because of the IRS. I have to explain to the Finance department at the college I attend that I cannot turn in my FASA on time in two weeks because your tax claim determines how much you receive and what you qualify for Financial Aid in college. I e-filed and was accepted by the IRS on 01/29/16. WMR stopped showing the progress bar on/around Valentine’s Day. I called on 02/21, explaining it was after the 21 days and asking for a reason, and the woman I spoke to said it was under further review and that I would receive a letter explaining what/if any action items I need to take. The kicker: the letter is due to be mailed on 03/07. Meaning someone in the IRS knows right now if they need more information from me, but I have to wait two more weeks to find out what this is. I filed Married/Joint with EIC and documented a 401k hardship withdrawal, so I know it’s a little unique, but our return this year is less than what it’s been the last three or four years. It is beyond frustrating.

Our taxes were accepted 2/10 and hasn’t updated since . I started to panic that something went wrong because I filed the same way I do every year and usually it has been aproved already. I have checked around online and have seen posts saying if accepted between 7-14 than it could be 19-21 , also saw the 26th .
Obviously I’m still within the window of 21 days (11-March 2 was given ) but it’s just making me very unconfortable not knowing if there is a problem or if there is just. A normal lag with Irs .
    QUESTIONS :
If your taxes had a problem after being accepted , how we’re you notified an how long after acceptance was it ?
    — 2– I read that the irs only updates on certain days of the week. ( set days for acceptances /approvals /payments . Is this true ?

I have found out that the IRS updates once a day, but with the system crash that happened earlier this month, it has put a delay on most people who have filed in early Feb. I efiled with hrblock on Feb 11 and it was accepted the same day. Its still processing according to the wmr.

I filed using turbo tax feb 12th. Accepted later that evening. About a week ago my bars went missing saying “your refund is still being processed” I did however call today (on day 12) spoke with one of the representatives and she told me my return was pulled due to needing to have my identity verified. She gave me the number and just told me to call them. This is happening to majority of tax filers so I would just go ahead and call the IRS. The worst they Will say is call after 21 days, but I would simply agree and call right back. ☺️ It could be something simple and the verifying process is always and simple, it’s getting through to them that is difficult. Once you are verified they throw you right back into the processing stage and say it will take up to 9 weeks. Don’t be discouraged because most people waiting the 9 weeks gets approved with in a week to 2 weeks (which like you and I, we have to wait another week 1/2 to 2 weeks anyways) hope this helps.

I lost the processing bars about a week ago and nothing has changed since. Was just told my return was stuck in processing and the system has to try and correct it’s self. If not to call back. I filed on 25th of January. I had only the first bar each time I checked on WMR. On the 11th of February I called and found the needed me to verify my identity. I did it online that night and the next day all bars disappeared, I only got the page saying your refund in still being processed and I will be given a refund date as soon as possible. I was told it could take up to nine weeks for my refund to be sent, no explanation as to why it takes so long. Today I called the tax advocate number, and they will help if it is a distressed or hardship situation. I am single father of two, everything is hardship. They looked at my file and have referred to an advocate helper, told me I should get a call on Friday for assistance but they might take up to six weeks before they can get my refund processed and sent. Nothing in my file and no holds or tax issues. I am now wondering if there are offices creating these issues to get more funding for the IRS next year. I have never had to wait as long as I already have and have no answers why I am still waiting.
BTW, I finally received the letter telling me I had to verify my ID yesterday, I am wondering if they wait the full 21 days before they even send the letter.

Most of this is automated and programmed to take place at certain intervals. The IRS number to call for ID verification is 800-829-1040. But be prepared for a long wait. The agency is chronically understaffed, and call volumes are extremely high this time of year.

Hello… This situation is becoming super frustrating. I filed online with HRBlock on 1/29. I received the typical emails saying that everything had been filed and accepted. I received my state check. My federal on the other hand, had an expected date of 2/19 from HRBlock. When i check the IRS website ‘Wheres my refund’ it simply states its still processing and an expected date will be posted when available. No error codes. So this morning i called them and got a live agent. All he could tell me was that there was issue on my return. I file the same thing each year, so I am boggled as to what it could be. He told me to wait an additional 2 weeks TO SEE if i received a letter from them in the mail. But as of today, said NOTHING had been sent out. So i may or may not receive a letter with further instruction? Oh. Okay. Cool. NOT. How is it these people take taxes from my check weekly, and would probably take my entire life had i owed them money, yet cant even provide me information as to WHAT IS WRONG, and how long i should be waiting. Im pissed. Im not sure what else I can do but wait at this point. I have to do a FASFA for school, and waiting on this refund to go through is really holding up everything. My anxiety is on 100. Anyone else get this same issue and response, with a positive outcome?! I need some good news.

I called today and got the same answer as Kristi E practically verbatim. Sad they can take our money regardless of our life situations but owe us no dependability, reliability, nor loyalty when it comes to getting us what we have rights to.

Kristi, I am in the exact same boat as you. I filed same date and still nothing. When I finally was able to speak to a human, she told me it is a “system issue” to give them another 2-3 weeks and if they needed anything they would contact me by mail. Then the rep said “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.” yea I said “Its a real big one.” Beyond stressed and irritated is an understatement. My problem is that I only file a basic 1040ez with no complications, I have never ever had an issue with the irs before, I just hope they get out money to us soon!

Just wanted to give an update:
So apparently in 2013 someone tried to file a return in my name for $1000 school credit. They know it wasn’t me, but that is what the hold up has been. They were waiting on the Social Security Admin to give them my W-2 after my job reported it to them. They have received it now, so the woman told me it shouldn’t be any later than March 7th. At least now I know what is going on, but confused as to why I don’t need to verify my identity. Ibam not going to argue about it BC I don’t want any additional time added on.

Hi Sam the best answer I can give everyone who has to verify id is when you call the IRS it is best you try to get atleast one of the questions ask wrong!!! Yes wrong! Then they will give you a number to call to go into a local IRS to do it in person and by doing that that will speed things up significantly. That’s what I did last week Wednesday and by the Friday everything went back to normal. I have a DD date of the 24th and I filed since 1/19. Good luck.

Yes I filed January 29 on 11th I had to send for a identity pin online and resend my taxes. I then called the IRS cause error code 9001 kept showing. They said I needed to go to office and verify in person. Once I did that last wed my refund has been excepted and approved and will be funded tomorrow good luck.

Got thru to verify ID line after calling all morning. I advised the agent that I already verified ID online about 10 days ago and then received a letter in mail to verify ID again. Attempted to do it online and wouldnt let me….told me to call. Agent told me DO NOT VERIFY MORE THAN ONCE as that can flag account and stop processing. She notated in my account that I already had a successful veification and allowed return to continure processing. She said it could take up to the 9 weeks but maybe sooner. I originally efiled and was accepted on 1/26. Just hoping I get a DDD soon. Good luck to everyone else.

Did she say what the procedure is after you verified? Is it automatically put back into the process or as I was told waiting for someone to manually go into your refund to make sure your verification answers were correct.

Just a update. I filed like most on January 19th of course got approved and all the good stuff. And then i did not receive my refund so after the 21 days i called the IRS and the lady asked me if i had received a letter to verify and i told her no, she she gave me the number to call. I called and answered the questions and my bars and everything disappeared a it just said processing and watch for a return date. So I waited exactly one week and called the IRS again to make sure i had done everything correctly with the verification and she said everything was good and i was back in processing and to give it 2-5 weeks but it might possibly be sooner. That was last Thursday the 18th. I looked at wmr on Sunday morn and it finally had the bars back and showed that i will receive my return on Feb 24th and if not by Feb 29th to call my bank. I still though have heard nothing from my Kansas State refund status and it has not updated since Jan 21st, so i called that and they referred me to another number and i was made to leave a message so no clue what’s up with that.

I’ve called the IRS 12 times since 7am this morning. Each time I go through the motions of whatever menu crap will get me through to a live person. Process normally takes 12 minutes, and then get to a hold menu. A few minutes later an automated person says call volumes are too high, try again tomorrow. I have waited 22 days for my refund with no updates. I called an got someone on Friday, and the woman told me she could do nothing for me because I didn’t wait 21 days How come when they owe me a substantial amount of money, I am at their whim, but when I owe them money they expect me to get my crap together right away and get them payment pronto?! I am so frustrated with this situation. I am a full time student and I depend on this money to get through this final semester, and continue to make my bills. I can not understand how you can provide a service, and then take away my right to wait 4 hours on hold if I so choose. For all I know 20 people holding could hang up in an hours time, and I would get in line to actually get service for my call!

Sarah I am in the same boat. I filed mine on 20 Jan 2016 and they accepted it at 9:58 AM that day. Mine is still processing and they told me two weeks ago that it would only be another week. When I told them that I need to file my FASA by the middle of March for Grad School I got the impression that they did not care. The sad part is that it is our money not theirs. The job that we do reports that as our income. Not theirs. We look bad because we now cant meet our responsibilities and obligation because of them. If we owed the money they would be banging down our doors. Threatening us, but they owe us our own money that we earned and we have to wait. What’s wrong with this picture?

Filed on 2/10. WMR states a 152 and 9001 code. Called IRS. Was told to call for verification process. Called today 2/22 and verified identity. I know im still within my 21 day limit. Was told 6-9 weeks for refund. Is it really gonna take that long even after the 21 days ? How long after verification was refund deposited ?

Thanks for the responses. I finally got through the phones lines and verified my identity and they said to check WMR in 3 days for updates. Like I said, I’m not hurting for the money, just kind of curious about the wait. I know when I filed in the previous years, it was never like this. It came in within like 2 weeks or so…. I filed 1/27/16 for a check and it’s taking over the 21 days and now longer bc I had to “verify that I’m me” lol smh the IRS seems to be slacking this year…

Still no change in status, with the exception that TurboTax got rid of the percentage of people that got their refund who filed same day as me… I guess they didn’t want me to see 99% of people already got money

You get your check every pay period , they take your taxes . NO QUESTION ,NO PROBLEM ! They (THEE IRS ) are taking their time buying their time for some reason . Telling us absolutely nothing in the mean time ! Absolute bullshit . If we as AMERICAN citizens did that to them they would A) take your car house. And everything of value or B) take us straight to prison . So why is there no consiquenses for all of this bullshit . I mean I am beside myself right now . For what its worth, you may have to wait up to an additional 6 weeks for you refund after you verify your ID. I just got off the phone with the IRS a few minutes ago. I was informed that I had to verify my ID and that is what they told me.

Hi!! I been following everyone’s comments for about a month now, I’m happy for the ones that received their refund, unfortunately im in the same boat with the ones that haven’t received theirs yet, if anyone can shed me a little light on this situation an what to do I will gladley appreciate it, this has been so frustrating, my story goes like this I filed on the 21of Jan OK on the 23 on wmr it was in processing status, on Feb 6 wmr gave me a date to be DD on the 10 of Feb so on Feb 10 I didn’t receive my refunds I called to the IRS an they were saying that they didn’t see a problem if it wasn’t deposited in my bank by the 16 of Feb to call back, OK I did they looked up my information an come to find out the IRS got me under review me not knowing what was going so I called my tax preparer an she states to me everything was right on my papers, I work out of town so I had to leave my w2 with her an go back to work, so I told her to email or text me a copy of my return she had done, an she did…..come to find out the reason I was being reviewed was because she had sent a school credit form an I never was in school when I found the mistake she had done I told her an she says to me that form was for another one of her clients an that she had been up late doing taxes an didn’t realize she sent my information on the school form to the IRS, so I don’t know if I should do my taxes over or wait until I get my letter in the mail before I act on this situation or do I need yo call a tax advocate to get this mess she got me in cleared up….please anyone shed me some info on this…thanks

I filed a 1089 t with turbotax on Febuary 6 and it was excepted the same day. It is now Sunday, Febuary 21 and the WMR tool says it’s still processing. This is really irratating because I don’t know what’s going on. I should’ve received it by now if I’m getting it direct deposited. Turbotax said that I should be getting it between febuary 7th and febuary 27, but I still think I should’ve received it by now.

I posted on this thread a few times before, but I wanted to reshare my ridiculous IRS journey. I filed January 7th knowing that it wouldn’t get started processing until the 19th. It was “accepted” on Jan 24, and my WMR information disappeared the next day. After numerous calls to the IRS I was told that my return had been sent to the Errors Department due to a glitch on Turbo Tax’s end. My return was corrected and sent back into processing. On February 1st my account was credited $59.00 by accident by someone in the errors department, and I was told I would have to wait 6-8 weeks to get more info. I called the Tax Advocate hotline and they were able to remove that credit error and get my return processed. February 18th the tax advocate called to inform me that she had reviewed (and corrected) my return and that my return amount had almost doubled! February 20th I looked on my WMR and I had a DDD of February 24th! Thank Goodness for the tax advocates! I would suggest anyone going through bs from the IRS to contact them!

The guy’s exact words were “the reason you’ve been getting the run around is because we’re told to never tell you if the IRS messed up. So if you can’t get your questions answers- that’s why.” It was their fault on the being in errors department and the false credit being on my account but Turbo Tax messed up a lot of people’s returns! He told me that their software was putting the numbers on the wrong lines on the IRS forms. That mistake sent a lot of returns into review and it made a big difference (good and bad) on the returns. I think he mentioned my error was my earned income credit numbers being on the wrong line

I filed with Turbo Tax on the 11th; returns accepted within hours of filing. The bar says that my return is being processed, still stuck on the first bar. Last year my returns were received within a week. My state tax returns were deposited 9 days after filing. I check everyday to see if there is a DDD–nope. Nothin’. Turbo Tax says my deposit “should” be made from 2/12-3/2. We shall see, that’s another week to wait. Like everyone else in this thread–my family REALLLLLY needs the money. According to every chart I’ve found online with guesstimates my deposit should have been made already. Nope.

Should be there if was processing normally. But as you can see this year the IRS is taking a bit longer than expected for refund payments due to ID checks, Obamacare and systems issues. After 21 days call the IRS to see what is going on and you should be able to get more insight into next steps.

I’ve been coming here for a while and I never posted but I want to give others an idea of what I’ve been through. I e-filed on 1/21 and was accepted the same day. I lost all of my bars on 2/6. From 2/6-2/19 I had no tax topic and WMR said “your return is being processed a DD date will be provided when available.” I called the IRS 4 times and each time I was told something different. The first time I called I was told that it would be 9 additional weeks from 2/4 because of identity theft issues I’ve had in the past (2012 someone stole my identity and tried to file taxes). It was a weird conversation though because she wouldn’t let me ID verify & I couldn’t ID verify online. She just said wait 9 weeks. I called back a week later and was told that nothing was wrong with my return it was simply still processing. I waited and waited. All the while I was still attempting to ID verify online and over the phone with no success. I called again a couple days ago and was told that I didn’t have ID theft issues and was told that I was under review and that it would take 9 additional weeks. This was on Monday.

I woke up today with a DD for 2/24. Point is, IRS doesn’t know shit. They tell you whatever they want. And at this point I don’t know and will never know what was truly wrong and why it took this long. But my bars have returned and I have my DD date almost one full month after I was accepted.

I am in the exact same situation as you. I had identity theft in 2014 and been through all the same issues I filed 1-29 and bars went missing few days after and I called twice and was told the first time I didn’t need to verify my ID and 2nd time I called I was told to wait for letter and to call back in 7 days if I didn’t get it but today I woke up with a DD of 2-24 and i was finally able to order my return transcript yesterday and all my bars are back and it was approved. Thanking God I didn’t have to wait 5 to 6 months like the last 2 years.

    Hello all,

I been reading all your comments for a week now. I filed 01/28 but the IRS received it on 02/12 not sure if it was on my accauntants end or theirs. I decided to check WMR just now, thinking it wasn’t going to be updated but it finally said approved with DD date of February 24th. Hope everyone gets it then too ! Good luck and let’s hope next year is better

Hi everyone well this whole ordeal has been tough but I finally got a DD date of 24/2/16 after waiting for over a month. Filed 1/19/16 bares went missing about two weeks after then about 3 weeks after that I decided to call IRS they told me I had to come into their office to verify id, I did it on the 17/2/16 and ordered my transcripts 18/2/16 and I just woke up to my wmr with refund approved and funds should be expected next week. Thank you God! Good luck everyone.

And FYI I filed on the 21st and was accepted the 22nd and it’s been on processing ever since without any bars showing. I highly suggest to call the 800-829-0582 ext:652 if you are at your 21 days. Just sucks you have to wait 21 days.

        This is my original post

I was finally able to talk to a real person. The number 800-829-0582 ext:652 does work. Takes about 10 minutes to get someone. Looks like I had to verify my identity for no real reason. I was transferd to number 800-830-5084 and was put on hold for 30 minutes. All they did was ask questions from my credit report and 2014/2015 taxes. I was cleared but they said it would take up a “max” of 9 weeks to see my return. I asked how I could check my statues and was told to check wmrf but to give it a few days. Has anyone on here already recieved a refund after having to verify? I’m not in a rush for my money but it sure would be nice.

hi I had the same problem I filed January 19th was accepted jan. 21st checked where’s my refund after two weeks the bars disappeared and all it said was it was processing and a date would be available after waiting 21 days I decided to call the IRS I was told that had to be verified I called the number they answered right away and it was quick and fast .I was told that I would have to wait 9 weeks to receive my refund basically it was starting all over like if i just filed so I waited a couple days checked online and still had the same message finally 8 days later Feb 18 it said my refund was approved I woke up this morning feb 19 and finally had a date for February 24th to be deposited in my account So basically after 21 days you have to wait an additional 14 days to receive your refund this is how it works Unless you spoke to an IRS agent that did something wrong and didn’t process it right away after you I did verified .thank God I’m done with this nightmare and I wish luck to everyone else but please call after 21 days only if you haven’t received your refund and if your bars are gone .people that have the bars and are approved shouldn’t worry about anything only people that don’t trust me I never had this problem ever good luck to everyone when u least expect it you’ll get it.

I been on this forum a couple of weeks ago….now that the refund is almost spent up, I wanted to give you guys that is still waiting some hope from my experience.

When I filed on January 21st, I did not receive my money until February 10th. Three days after it was deposited, my transcripts came in the mail as well and the 846 code had a date of 2/28/2016.

So, I received the refund 18 days sooner because I called the ext. 652 number and the representative I am assuming placed mine in the “next batch to receive a deposit”. Maybe because I brought attention to my tax record, for instance.

For those of you still waiting….I would recommend calling the number with the ext. 652. I believe the author Andy has the number to call posted.

Good luck everyone and talk to you next tax season :-)

You probably need to call and speak to someone. I filed on 25th of January with Tax
Act, accepted same day and had no progress. Called last week and found had to verify my identity. No letter or notification. Now sitting at no bars and have called but no information yet.

Every time I called I get automated, the irs Is purposely made that so they don’t have to talk to us.

If you are able to order your transcripts over the phone does that mean you are one step closer?? All it says on WMR is we have received your return and it is being processed. I filed 2/8 and have had one bar with TT 152 and this message since then! I was able to order my transcripts over the phone but not online due to having an apartment address! anyone please help!

I had e-filed 01/27 and it was accepted on 01/29. I checked, “WMR” page on 2/3 it was still in accepted status. On 2/8 I checked, “WMR” again and this time it said, the information I enter is incorrect. I had re-enter my ss, refund $$ and file date then it said, We cannot provide any information about your refund. I tried calling the IRS multiple of times but I can not get through to a live representative. I research online and found out the IRS had a system failure around President Day. I filed everything correctly, my tax has never been this late and it’s frustrated. Does anyone have any accurate updates on what’s going on?

I efiled on 1/12, but I know they didn’t start accepting refunds until 1/19, I used turbotax as well. It was accepted on 1/13, but is still saying it’s being processed. I called the IRS and they told me to “hang in there” I don’t understand because all of my friends and coworkers have already gotten their taxes back, and filed after me. Could there be a problem? Also, I claim my 17 year old son, but his father pays for his health insurance, could this be an issue? the best way to reach the irs is:
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM – 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: “Refund”, or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for “personal income tax” instead.
Then press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
Then press 4 “for all other questions.”
Then press 2 “for all other questions.” It should then transfer you to an agent.

I filed 1/27 accepted the same day been pass my 21 days called the irs and was told that my return was kicked out on 2/4 and the problem was fixed and they don’t need no more information from me and they closed it on 2/17 and that my refund is back in the process of being return to me but it will take 9 wks and they dont see any later being mailed out to me which I need to know if anybody else had or having this same problem and does this mean my refund is on it’s way also is it going to actually take the whole 9wks before I get my money they also said there’s no need for me to get a tax advocate and if I don’t receive my refund or a letter in the mail to call back on 4/20

I am so confused at this point that it doesn\’t even make sense to me. I filed 1/27 , accepted 1/28 and verified my identity 2/9 and my bars all disappeared on 2/12 and states that it\’s still processing. Called Tax advocate 2/18 and was advised that they see an code that states my refund is about to be approved with a DD date and if I don\’t see any change by the 29th to call back. Call IRS again this morning and they tell me that I need to verify my identity and I told them that none of them have no idea what they are doing. I told them it\’s amazing that when I called to speak to the IRS last week that it showed I verified my identity now today you\’re telling me I need to….WTF???? I AM SO CONFUSED…………I just want my money and I want someone to be honest about it. Can someone on here let me know if they have experienced the same BS…..this shit is ridiculous.
