No Tax Refund or Status After 21 days? Tips On Contacting the IRS For Processing Updates

As the IRS notes, for nine out of ten tax filers it takes a maximum of 21 days to receive a tax refund (when eligible) after their tax return has been accepted. But this is still just an estimate based on past IRS refund schedules and not a guarantee.

Further if it takes 21 days on average for 90% of tax filers, it also takes a lot longer than that for 10% or over 15 million tax filers to see their refund. And this assumes that the their tax return was filed correctly and does not require further manual verification.

But help is available and in more ways than you may realize, both with and without having to call the IRS. Keep reading for updates on processing delays and refund status tips in the sections and comments below.

Why is it taking so long to get my tax refund?

To understand why processing has been delayed you need to understand the refund process. It starts with the submission of your final tax return. After your tax return has been accepted by the IRS (return received) they will start processing it over several days until finalized and a tax refund, if eligible, is disbursed (refund approved).

A refund payment date will then be available on the IRS Where is my Refund (WMR site or IRS2Go app) once sent out (refund sent).

If there are issues with your refund you may see an extended delay in moving to the next WMR processing status and an applicable IRS message/code will be displayed once available.

The IRS and tax experts have said that there could be dozens of reasons when it comes to delays in processing tax returns that can then affect the timing of your refund. Some are in your control before you file your return, but others may be purely do IRS processing delays that you cannot do much about. This includes:

  • Your tax filing has errors or is incomplete, which means the IRS cannot validate or match your data to their records. Especially for key items like your or your spouse’s SSN, dependent data or missing fields needed to process your return (e.g income). This is why using best of breed tax filing software is highly recommended because it can flag many of these common filing errors before you submit your return.
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud. You will see a message if this is the reason and receive a letter in the mail to confirm identity and next steps. You need to ensure you follow instructions and provide required information to confirm your identity with the IRS.
  • Incorrect bank account information. Given most refunds are sent electronically it’s very important to double (or triple) check that your account number and bank routing number are accurate. You don’t want a delay trying to recover a refund because it went to the wrong bank account. This has impacted thousands of people and even delayed payment of stimulus checks which relied on your latest tax return payment details.
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or an Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This delays returns early in the tax season due to (PATH) legislation which requires additional verification for these credits and does not allow returns with these credits to be processed for three to four weeks into the tax season. Further you should also expect delays if your return includes adjustments for the the advance child tax credit payments.
  • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation which could cause delays for up to 14 weeks due to additional (manual) processing and verification by the IRS.
  • Needs further reviews in general by the IRS. Most tax processing systems have automated checks looking for common red flags and are then flagged for more further (manual) processing. The could add weeks to your tax return processing and subsequent delays to your refund payments.

The silver lining with delayed refunds is that the IRS will end up paying interest on your overdue refunds as long as filed by the tax season deadline.

Using electronic filing software like TurboTax to efile returns, you can eliminate a lot of the simple errors or incomplete information related issues that delay tax refund processing because tax software packages have automated checks before you submit the return to the IRS.

“We apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe”

This is the message many filers are seeing after submitting their tax return to the IRS. You can see more on this message in this video, but this is mainly due to IRS processing delays or an issue was found with your return that requires manual verification by their error handling department.

Tax Topic 152, which covers general IRS processing, is the default message shown to tax payers around their refund processing timeline and potential delays. No additional steps or actions are needed from the filer at this point.

Delayed Refund Processing

TC 152 could have several implications once the IRS finishes initial processing, but when you see this message it basically just means the tax return has been received and is being processed and the next status or actions has to be finalized.

The IRS is however setting expectations that your refund may be delayed (for a variety of reasons). The most common progression after this message (other than the refund being approved) is to see a refund offset (TC 203) or refund adjustment due to additional liability (TC 570) from reconciliation of filing information versus what the IRS has on record.

What To Do Next?

If it has been over 21 days since your return was being accepted by the IRS (or 6 weeks if you filed a paper return) and the tax refund status has not changed or WMR has no updated message for delays, you can call the IRS and speak with an agent concerning your tax refund.

But to reiterate, don’t call before 21 days as the IRS will tell you to wait until the prescribed period. You can call the IRS on 1-800-829-1040 between 7 AM – 7 PM local time Monday-Friday.

speak to a real IRS Agent

Some people may also receive a formal IRS notice requesting specific information, which often contain a number to call that is different to the general one above. Firstly, don’t ignore these letters and ensure you use this one as chances of getting through to a live agent are higher.

Also calling early or late in the day and on Tuesdays or Thursdays seems to increase the odds of getting through to someone.

You should also check your IRS Master File cycle code to see if your return is being processed on a daily or weekly cycle. Based on the day your return information or refund status is updated, you may be able to get more up to date information.

Calling the IRS to Check on Your Refund – 4 Options to Try

Its not always easy to get through to a live agent at the IRS, but below are some options to try. Hopefully these help you get someone real to talk to about your refund. But just be warned you will need to try a few times, so have a drink or lots of patience handy!

Option 1 (seems to be working this year)

  1. Call IRS number 1-800-829-0582
  2. DO NOT selection Option #1 for English
  3. Wait until the automated voice finishes talking. Then enter extension 652
  4. You may have to wait a while due to high call volumes (and redial a few times), but you will get a live agent.

Option 2

  • Call the IRS on 1-800-829-1040
  • So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info) or Option 7 (economic impact payment/stimulus check).
  • Choose option 2 for “personal income tax” instead.
  • Then press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
  • Then press 3 “for all other questions.”
  • Then press 2 “for all other questions.”
  • When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
  • After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
  • Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
  • It should then transfer you to an agent. Retry if you get the high call volume message.

Option 3: Call the IRS Refund Hotline – 1-800-829-1954 – and follow the prompts.

Option 4: Another route to get more information on your refund is to contact the National Taxpayer Advocate Service (see more on the TAS here), an independent unit within the IRS to add tax payers. But they will be limited to help until the IRS actually starts processing your return and has loaded your tax filing information into their systems.

Please leave a comment, in addition to the many below, if you have found a different and effective way to speak to a real IRS Tax agent. You can see some more suggestions in this video on IRS numbers and tips to get a live agent.

ITA – Getting Help Without Calling the IRS

The IRS has realized that getting a live agent or a refund status update via WMR, IRS2Go or your transcript can be challenging for many tax payers.

As a result they have launched Interactive Tax Assistant (ITA) that is designed to provide answers to common taxpayer prompts/questions around filing a return, dependent eligibility, refund status and general tax law items.

IRS Tax Assistant

This tool uses AI and a database of questions from past years and for general questions is a good place to start if you are not getting help from the above options.

You are absolutely right! They have no problem taking the money but when we have questions (bc we were told there’s no delay) they act like it’s a big deal that a lot of us have been waiting and need it. It’s super duper frustrating! And now the stimulus is suppose to be coming how long is that going to take?!?!

  2. I just got off the phone with the IRS and was told there was a problem processing my return but the problem was on the IRS end. I don’t have a date when when my refund will be approved was told to just keep checking.

Following the instructions above on contacting the IRS works, you just have to keep trying.

    • I’m having the same problem. What # did you call and did you speak with a live person? It has been 30 days for me. I haven’t received a letter or anything. I helped my nephew with his taxes and we submitted the same day. He got all his money on 2/23 our filing date was 2/12. I am so confused and need my money. I was counting on it for bills.. Oh well maybe they will send me some info soon. Just wish I could speak with someone so they can inform me of what’s going with it.

    • This sounds like what is currently happening with unemployment. No calls taken. Hard to get through. When you do get through….you are given the same story.
I am in a similar situation as everyone. Filed early. Feb 16th. IRS received. Accepted 2/17. System show Direct Deposit approximate date March 9th, 2021. I have EIC, CTC, and the $10,200 tax exempt from unemployment that I opted in to pay federal and state tax. Lord knows if the student loans are passed too for a $10,000 to a $50,000 or ALL of it…Lordy I will be waiting even longer (lord willing). After the laws passed… I guess and believe good things and blessings will come to those whom is forced to wait so I know my taxes got selected for error processing (which they technically call it) because Now the workers/staff need to recalculate our taxes so our initial amount would be more instead of the filed given amount. Hmmmm….And because of THAT…. I am willing to suffer a couple more weeks and wait it out. The STRUGGLES is real but the BLESSINGS are even BETTER THAN THE STRUGGLES. Chhheeeehuuuuu

  3. I filed on 2/12 and accepted on 2/15 it is over 21 days so… I tried calling again today at 12:50 pm est but I did the 1 (800) 829-0582 (ext 652) number instead and said hold time was 2-4 minutes it was longer but i talked to a person in less than 15 minutes. I spoke with a Mr Ebnor that said my fed taxes were pulled from processing due to an error. When I asked him what error he said he did not know but it would be about 8 weeks and they will contact me if they need more info. I said “that’s odd seems like it has to do with the CTC( child tax credit)” His response how did you know! When i asked what he meant he brushed it off. I explained I have been seeing other ppl having the same issue and what the 1 common factor was ctc

  4. The prompt did not work for me. It leads me to the collection department. Any progression is better than none. However, it is relieving to know I am not alone. I have one dependent, qualifying for EITC credit and Child Tax credit. I “self-prepared” with TurboTax a week prior to IRS open date. The system continues to show ‘in progress’. All in all, thanks for the prompt-it definitely helps!

  5. I filed my taxes through H&R block on Feb 3rd and my return was excepted on Feb 10th and I am still waiting !! I havent heard anything at all the web site still says processing. My girlfriend and I both filed on the same day at the same time , I used H&R block and she used turbo tax , she recieved her refund within a couple of days and I am still waiting with no date in sight . I’ve tried calling and every single time I am directed to call at another time I can never get through . Im to the point of going to the irs main office in my area and protesting or something to try to get results

    • I filed with HR block to and I’m having the same problem. I will not file with them again. Mine was excepted on the 14 th and it still saying processing. And I he depends too but still it should not take this long.

  6. So like a ton of people on here I called the IRS. I was told a similar response of “your tax return could take up to 10 weeks from acceptance date which was the 12th. So I said so 7 more weeks maybe? He said yeah if you haven’t received by then call back

A week after I did mine I helped a friend do hers and she had all the child tax credits and earned income credits. She got hers March 3rd…

  7. I finally reached an agent after calling both numbers multiple times. The first agent transferred me to the Taxpayer Protection line, the agent there wasn’t sure why I was transferred. She told me our return was accepted on February 16. No other information was given, just wait. So frustrating!

  8. I had the exact same filing date and return accepted date. I just got off the phone with the IRS and was told that my return went through their error processing program and was a reaccepted on March 4th even though there was no errors on the return and that I now have to wait eight weeks from March 4th to receive my return. That is completely ridiculous to me that I would have to wait another 8 weeks when there was nothing wrong with my return to begin with. I don’t know if it’s because of the EIC or the child tax credit or using TurboTax or a combination of all three because it seems like those three details are happening to everybody here. I just know I am extremely pissed off

  9. I filed my taxes 2/18/21. Its been 20 days. It still has not even been accepted by the irs. Turbo tax says its been accepted ans sent to the irs. But for 20 days now its says its still being processed. We will give you a day. When will I get my date?

  10. It is concerning. We filed prior to them accepting the information. The website I used waited until they open and sent it. IRS accepted. 2 days ago went to the page with no date or bar saying it’s processing. I believe the 6th would have been 21 days, we’ve filed the same every year. It’s annoying. We are waiting on direct deposit also (since my SO is thinking that 10 week date others mentioned above is for paper checks).

We haven’t called but we are still waiting.
We are 1099 and Child tax credit so idk if that makes a difference but other friends have received theirs that have kids.

  11. same here accepted on Feb 12th still processing i have 3 kids applied thru H&R they said i will receive by 1 st week of march guaranteed but today March 10 2021 nothing yet i am behind rent payment.

  12. I filed my taxes on 2/1/21, accepted on 2/13/21, got state on 2/27/21, and just have the message on WMR that says it is being processed and a date will be available soon. Last tax season, I filed early and still didn’t get our 2019 taxes back till Dec 2020. It’s frustrating as all get out because I was told it wouldn’t happen again. I feel like because I had to calm the second stimulus check is the hold-up. And I thought it wasn’t supported to be a problem. Our government clearly doesn’t care about us, even during a pandemic. Good luck, everyone.

      • Means it is probably in error. I called again and the woman I spoke with told me its been in error since the IRS received it and will take 8-10 weeks I will either receive a letter asking for more info or I will get my refund but the IRS has up until April 26th

Past 21 days too. I got thru 800-829-1040 but when the live person transferred me to the Dept it said high call volume try again later.

I have a fried who filed jointly with her husband and got theirs two weeks ago. Theirs was accepted on the same day as mine. Both of us chose direct deposit. It doesn’t make sense that mine isn’t done two weeks later.

  14. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for providing an effective and successful process to actually speak with someone regarding refund info at the IRS. I am officially at 22 days following IRS acceptance, and still waiting for my refund. My estimated call wait time, once I finally navigated through the menu to actually speak with someone, was 30-60 minutes. Ultimately I waited the full 60 minutes before being helped.

I spoke with an agent who checked into my refund for me, and why it is exceeding the 21 day mark. She stated that due to an IRS office closure, and delays associated with the Economic Relief payments, there are delays with everyone’s refunds. She stated that it could take up to 10 weeks to receive my refund. So now, there’s no issues, I just have to wait.

      • I did, and my issue with Turbo Tax is that I added one of my kids that I didn’t claim last year. The system added the rebate credit, and wouldn’t allow me the opportunity to remove it, and I was forced to file it knowing that this would or could create problems. Now, after multiple calls this week, I was told that there were no noted errors, but they had placed a hold on my taxes(Monday) 3/8/21. I called back and spoke with a seasoned representative, who sent a note to the individual over my taxes asking that she either release my taxes or send a notice about the issue with my taxes. 3/10/21. I called back today, and was told that the message was sent to the one processing or reviewing my request, but they noted it would take 30 days from the 10th to determine the issue. My questions for those who had issues with their taxes and did not see them last year until later that year; is this what they told you, and am I looking at possibly getting my return later this year or even next year for that matter?

        Reply
        • Yes but I had to get recovery rebate bc I had twin girls in 2020 and didn’t receive stimulus for them ever so. Nothing else was special about my situation it was accepted but lost ticker showing how far it was and it shows correct amount owed just says will update at a later time. Keep checking back refer to tax topic 152 information. And then I call and they aren’t answering the personal account specialist line to research my refund its been 32 days now

    • That seems so crazy to me, Brittany because I know several people that got their refund on the 5th. Its a little irritating when you file early and spend extra money to efile and it takes just as long as if you just mailed it in.

      Reply
    • Its been more then 21 days and still in the first stage was told it would take that long but it has and to call them you need a lot of time just wait to speak with agent they wouldn’t get calls if they update the system and put the right let us know what’s the status

  15. So i finally got through on the number and ext provided. I was told it was under review and it could take up to 10 weeks to find out anything. That is well past the deadline date. Additionally, she said hey just sit tight we are behind. I get it but some of us are trying to pay bills. I wonder if these are all the taxpayers who filed for the eic and child tax credit. This is absolutely crazy. Its just like we hurried and took your money but now oh were gonna rake our time. Then we ha e to wait for the next round of stimulus checks to be pushed out.

I (just like everyone else) needs to catch up on everything and this is just crazy! I can’t get through to the irs I have called all day over and over for the last three days and keep getting disconnected because of high call volumes they can’t “handle” my call at this time !!! I got my state back a whopping 20.00 yesterday (3-9) I just wish someone had some answers because the statement the irs keeps putting out is there are no delays, but clearly there are and people are being told there is as well!

An aide actually got back to me this morning (impressive!) and said with several tax advocates she’s spoken with this tax season, they all have told her IRS is way behind this season. She’s not authorized to start looking into missing individual claims until 90 days after filing. Hoping with my state refund and relief stimulus, i can float by until the fed refund shows up. Hope youbguys can too

    • Did you file s child tax credit or earned income tax credit? Im wondering if everyone who filed one of those credits taxes were flagged. I saw a message somewhere that said people who filed one of those credits would not get their taxes back until at least the first week of March. Now it seems like we all are getting pushback from the IRS but wonder what the commonality is? The only thing unclear is what was actually claimed on each individual tax. It seems a bit ironic that we all are having our taxes reviewed. They urged everyone to turn them in early only to get booby trapped and have to sit in limbo well past the filing deadline date before they can even tell us what is wrong.

      • I agree. I filed with EIC as well and was accepted on 2/12. Still no refund date or update. It only says they are still being processed. Wth?

        • Try calling them. I called today and sure enough they said it was under review and to not expect an answer for 10 weeks. She said if i dont get answer not to worry they are behind a few weeks and to just sit tight. I understand her standpoint but we are in the middle of a pandemic and most of us were planning to use the money to take care of necessities. It would be interesting to see if everyone who claimed eic or child tax credit is under review though?

        • You knowI filed EIC as did my daughter I turned mine in on February 14 and mine still says processing she turned hers in at the end of February and she’s already gotten her refund back and she also filed EIC I’m thinking all of us that filed right when it started are the ones that are held up

        • Mine say the same thing. My fed was accepted on 2/12 state accepted 2/13. I received my state, but still no federal. Only stating still processing it makes me feel like I did something wrong but I have not received any letters stating something is wrong ‍♀️

        • Mine says the samething got accepted 2/12 now its still being processed. I got my state refund 3/4

        • Mine still says the same thing and every time I call I can’t get ahold of anyone. I just don’t get it

        • Me too it’s super frustrating. I have to pay bills and take care of home like the rest of Americans.. This is so sad but thanks for sharing.

      • A friend of mine claimed the EITC credit and received her tax refund the last week of February and her accepted date was the 13th. While my accepted date was the 12th. And I’m still waiting. There seems to be no rhyme or reason.

      • I totally agree I literally just said the same thing. I filed 2/5 accepted 2/12 state accepted 2/19 and still nothing! I spoke to someone this morning only to find out it was FLAGGED for some sort of error an told I had to wait 10 weeks to see if the error could be resolved without needing my assistance. If after 10 weeks and still nothing to call back. It sounds very sketchy, I’ve NEVER had any problems on my return an I claim the EITC every year. I wonder how that would affect me receiving the 3rd stimulus check? Anyone have any ideas?

Mine was accepted Feb. 12th and it still says that it’s being “processed” with no expected date to be found. I did mine on Turbotax and they said I would recieve payment on March 7th, but that didnt happen.

  21. Same issue as everyone else. March 5th was 21 days.
I did all the steps above. I called at 7am on the dot, when they opened, and I was told due to high call volume my call couldn’t be taken, and to try back later.

Does ANYONE know why people are not getting their refunds?

    • Same, I filed in Jan, but because of the child credit and head of household, they held my return until 2/12/21. It’s been just under a week since the 21-day mark. I can’t get through to an agent. I called at 7:00 am and then again just after I was disconnected; I tried a different option as the last option thinking, maybe that could make a difference, but no. I didn’t get my second stimulus and filed for the credit, but it was never mailed or anything, so I know I am good there. (We moved, and I got early money last year on a prepaid debit card, so IRS didn’t have my bank info, well they had it for unemployment and previous years, but whatever.) Im a single mom, underemployed, I don’t receive child support; I need my tax money to survive. My anxiety is out of control; this isn’t healthy. Now I’m worried I won’t get the third stimulus, for whatever reason. Could something be really wrong, like identity theft or any number of other things I have no real clue about?

      • Just like everyone else, I’m in need of my tax return. I filed on 2/12 and was accepted 2/14. The status changed to processing about a week ago but it’s been past the 21 day mark and I’m started to wonder if something is wrong with my taxes. I filed through TurboTax because I heard that was the fastest way to get your tax return. I should of just gone to a tax person instead. I’ve been calling the IRS for the past 3 days and can’t get a hold of a real live person. So frustrating

  23. Same thing is happening to me, irs received my return 2/12, i was stuck on 1st orange bar for about 2 weeks, then it changed to the “still processing” message w/o the orange bar and been like that every since, my state refund kept saying they didn’t have a refund or it didn’t match their records or something for about 2 weeks then it finally say it’s being processed for over a week now. I know ppl that got their taxes a week after the 12th and also my niece filed after me, she has the eitc and she got a date a week ago for the 9th which is today. I tried calling the IRS today several times and the automated system said call back another time they can’t take my call right now. This is day 25 for me.

    • Has anyone’s tax refund status changed to “approved” or is it all stuck at “accepted.” I filed early, with EIC credit, claiming HOH with 3 dependents. Assuming my 3 dependents also had the Child income tax credit apply to my return. I was accepted 2/15, approved 3/5 and have not received a date for return. 21 business days is on Monday bc there was a holiday on Presidents Day, which does not count as a business day- so I’ve been told. We need the return to pay bills DESPERATELY! The EIC Is specifically for people who don’t make a lot of money and why is it that we are the ones who are getting severe delays with our refunds!? ITS CRAZY!

Has anyone’s returns been approved or are all of you still in limbo with just the “acceptance” status?

  24. I filed on 02/04/2021, return was accepted on 02/12, got my state return a couple of weeks later but the federal has shown processing for the last week and a half. Filed through turbo tax, no mistakes, no letters from the IRS. I had to call repeatedly to get through to the menu instead of being kicked off for high call volume but then followed the instructions. You do have to also press 4 and then you’ll be put on hold for an agent. On hold for 40 minutes then it transferred me back to the main menu due to “technical difficulties” clicked through something and spoke to someone who transferred me back to the department that handles return questions but I was disconnected due to high call volume. So 45 minutes and didn’t get anywhere.

Its very harf to get any form of contact to irs someone needs to update the public on whats going on its a big run around nothing they suggest works and they know it help please.

    • Tried calling again today at 2:30 but I did the 1 (800) 829-0582 (ext 652) number instead and talked to a person in less than 10 minutes. She said there’s nothing wrong with my return but that they’re just delayed and to keep an eye on where’s my refund because it should just be a few more days. Not much help but I guess it’s nice to know that there’s no issue with my return. It is frustrating that there’s a lot of people that filed later and have already received their refund. I don’t think I’ll file early next year if it’s going to turn out to be such a headache.

Have been trying to call everyday, been following the prompts and still nothing. Have not received any letters from IRS either. So I have no idea what is going on.

        • Stimulus payments, new legislation and pandemic constraints….a lot of factors causing these delays and the prior administration cut IRS funding by 30%. So a conflux of events that led to the ultra slow processing this year.

    • I’m in the same boat as you. Filed Jan 26th. Accepted feb 13th, and still don’t have anything. My status hasn’t moved in their website either… lots of people I work with already got their money back. Idk why I haven’t gotten mine. Weird. I can’t get through the line at all.

  26. Like everyone else I have not received my federal return either. My taxes were there waiting on Feb 12. They were approved shortly after. I filed using TurboTax and I have received my state return but not my federal. When I check “where’s my refund” it just says it is still processing it doesn’t even show the little orange bar anymore it’s just a basic message. I just wish I knew if this was because of the IRS or if I messed up somewhere.

  27. I filed my tax return on 02/02 through turbo tax. It was accepted 02/12. And since said processing. Then I saw the alert that said the website and app aren’t updating correctly but your refund could have already been sent. The 21 day mark was last friday the 5th. When I called I got to a second set of options when it hung up on me, and when I called back it said call volume was too high. Now here on Monday I called and was going through the options and same thing it hung up on me, and whenever I call back im not receiving any info it just says its too busy. I have not received a letter stating I did anything wrong. Nothing. I know I do have the EITC credit on there. But still it shouldn’t still be delayed when my neighbor filed like i did and it was accepted 02/13. She received her refund the last week of february! So how can I get in touch with IRS.

    • Same thing here. Our refund is held up and we are only getting a small amount for the extra child tax credit and no EIC. My daughter got a ton of EIC and extra child tax credit and has already gotten her full return direct deposited. WTF is happening here. This makes no sense. I have called and called and get hung up on every freaking time. I tried to call my local office and they are not providing any live telephone help at this time or taking any walk in appointments so that is no help. What the hell is happening and how can you get a live person to talk to. I am now at 30 days of waiting on my return for direct deposit….

  28. hi my husband is having the same issue , but i thought we didn’t have to add health insurance forms unless you go through a marketplace right? which we dont either. We have not been able to get through to the IRS yet but wondering if that is his issue too because nothing on the return would be incorrect but he is at 24 days today with no refund and did an efile as well with direct deposit.

  29. I’m past 21 days and still processing, the IRS agent said all she saw was that it was something to do with health insurance that it’s still processing. We don’t have anything to file insurance wise (marketplace or anything). Any thoughts or answers on this? Similar things that have happened to anyone else at all maybe?

  30. I filed my taxes on 2/2. My federal was accepted on 2/12 and my state was accepted on 2/15. I received my state refund, but not my federal. I have been constantly tracking the status of my refund. It always is saying “still processing”, which is frustrating because I don’t know why I’d receive my state and not my federal. I did however receive a letter from the IRS. 2 weeks ago regarding that I claimed my stimulus check, when I shouldn’t have. That was my bad and I should’ve been paying more attention. But the letter didn’t state any other issues. It’s been over 21 days and still no refund. As many of you. I’ve tried contacting the IRS regarding this issue, and I either get to speak to a robot or get disconnected. Maybe there’s just a delay? But I filed through TurboTax and had direct deposit set up. All of my information is correct. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    • I filed January 20th and they had sent my 2nd
stimulus to my old bank account so it bounced back to the irs. I called before filing and they said I had to claim it on my taxes so I did. On Feb 10th I ended up getting my 2nd stimulus through the mail. Still have not received my tax refund and am unable to get through to the irs. My taxes were accepted Feb 10th still nothing. I’m assuming the delay is due to the second stimulus that they told me to file .

  35. Following the edited directions above, I called at 3 PM on 8/19 and was on hold for approximately 35 minutes before an IRS agent came on the line. The agent indicated the refunds are delayed at least 3 weeks beyond the initial 21 day waiting period due to COVID-19. Thanks for the instructions and good luck to everyone!

The only addition I have to this is after final press 2 it prompted me to continue to push another prompt which I did not and then I waited approx 40 min and spoke to someone. Unfortunately it did not solve my problem at this time and I have to call back in 4 weeks but now I can speak to someone!!

  39. There is absolutely no live agents to speak to in weeks, per the automated system. It is urgent that I speak to, or get in contact with someone. I have not received my income tax check, that they said was mailed on March 13th. I need this problem solved asap.
