Ohio (OH) Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) – End of Pandemic Unemployment Programs and 2022-2023 State UI Benefits

The unemployment systems and payments for Ohioans is under the purview of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) and is funded from the Ohio Unemployment Trust Fund. The money in the fund comes from unemployment taxes that local employers pay the state.

For the past couple of years regular state unemployment insurance payments (details below) had been supplemented by the now expired federally funded pandemic enhanced unemployment benefits programs that were approved across multiple COVID relief stimulus bills. You can see more on each of these programs in the sections below.

How Much Unemployment Can I Get Paid In Ohio?

With the expiry the pandemic unemployment programs, only traditional/regular state unemployment is now available for full or partial unemployment claims. The table below provides key details on the latest unemployment benefits and qualifying wage requirements in Ohio.

You will need to submit a claim or certify your application via the Ohio ODJFS to get your actual weekly benefit amount.

Note that to qualify for unemployment, your job loss will generally need to be involuntary. I.e. through no fault of your own or via directly quitting. Your job and wages must also have been paid by an employer or source that deducted unemployment insurance taxes (see your paycheck).

Further if you are being paid severance via a layoff or able to use sick leave or paid vacation, you cannot claim unemployment.

You will also need to certify at regular intervals (weekly in Ohio) and demonstrate ongoing work availability and search requirements to keep getting unemployment benefit payments.

Ohio Unemployment Benefits Summary (per ODJFS)

Why is my weekly benefit payment lower than the maximum amount?

Your actual weekly benefit amount (WBA) is the amount of money your state agency has determined you may receive for regular unemployment insurance after filing a claim. This can change weekly based on your certification or claim for benefits.

It is based on the amount that you were paid by all employers over the states pre-defined basic or alternate wage based period(s), which are generally based on the past 4 to 5 calendar quarters spanning 12 to 18 months. The higher your earnings, the higher your approved WBA will be, up to the maximum amount allowed in the state.

Certain states also provide additional unemployment benefits for qualified dependents you are primarily responsible for, which could impact your maximum weekly benefit amount. See above table for details.

Any part-time or temporary earnings from employment or other activities during eligible weeks you are claiming and certifying for benefits, will potentially reduce the amount of benefits you may get.

What if I worked or lived in another state?

If you worked or lived in another state during the base year, you should file your unemployment benefits claim in the state you worked in. Not where you reside at the time of claim.

Your claim will be paid and governed by laws of that state in which you applied for. You will need to report this on your state and federal income taxes per form 1099-G issued by the state’s UI agency.

End of Pandemic Unemployment Benefit programs & Retroactive Payments

The PEUC, PUA and MEUC programs expired on the week ending September 4, 2021. From September 5th, all federally funded enhanced unemployment benefits, including the previously (early) terminated $300 weekly payment have now ceased. Only traditional state unemployment benefits will be available, up to a maximum of 26 weeks.

Any active claims, with or without remaining balances, will expire after this date and any weeks after Sep 5th will NOT be paid. The only exception are retroactive benefit payments for validated claims after a successful determination or appeal in line with US DOL guidelines.

While there was a lot of discussion around extending pandemic unemployment benefits by states using already allocated stimulus funding, this was not done. The ODJFS instead is only supporting return to work programs.

The ODJFS continues to make retroactive back payments for Ohioans missing out on pandemic unemployment payments. This includes reaching out to over 3,000 claimants believed to have been victims of account takeovers.

For back payments after October 4th, claimants will need to call ODJFS customer assistance (PUA Call Center at 1-833-604-0774) to process claims and provide supporting evidence for their claim. To file an appeal against a rejected claim you will need to contact the Unemployment Insurance Redetermination line at 877-574-0015.

Claimants will also need to apply or reapply for UI benefits when they reach the end of their current benefit year (see your online payment history for this date). They must also have worked and earned enough qualified wages in the benefit year to qualify.

Applicants who received no wages from covered employment during the past five quarters will not be eligible for a new UI claim. Further they must be actively looking for work to keep getting benefits.

Ohio End Extra $300 Weekly Pandemic Unemployment Payment Early

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that ODJFS will stop paying out the $300 p/week federally funded unemployment benefit program by the week ending June 26, 2021. However unlike many other Republican led states ending these programs Ohio will retain the PUA and PEUC programs through to the current September 6th expiry.

The argument for ending the $300 extra weekly payment is that the extra unemployment programs do not incentivize workers to return to work, especially lower income workers who make less than $15 p/hour. Opponents (Democrats) argue that the reason people are not going back to work is due to fears around getting COVID, child care or schooling constraints. You can see more on which states are ending the extra weekly $300 FPUC here and a recent YouTube video I made on this topic.

After the June 26th cut-off date, or from the week beginning June 27th, 2021 the $300 extra weekly payment will cease for all active and new claimants. You can stay connected for updates via the options below.

Note that lawsuits have been filed in Ohio against Governor Mike DeWine to restore Ohio’s participation in the $300 G federal unemployment programs. The case follows temporary injunctions in other states who filed lawsuits.

2021 Biden ARPA Stimulus Bill Extensions

Under President Biden’s $1.9 trillion federal coronavirus relief package, known as the American Rescue Plan (ARPA), enhanced unemployment benefits have been extended until September 6th (week ending September 4th in Ohio). This includes further extensions to the PUA program, PEUC program, $300 weekly payment under the FPUC program and $100 Mixed Earners (MEUC) program. There were also provisions in the Biden Stimulus package for Unemployment tax breaks on the first $10,200 of benefits received in 2020.

ODJFS Latest News and Status on PUA, PEUC and $300 FPUC Payment Schedule/Issues

The Department of Labor (DOL) has issued formal guidelines for states to implement the latest extensions. The ODJFS has rolled-out all of the extensions under the ARP program and has begun issuing the supplemental weekly $300 payments to active claimants. Key updates include:

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)

The extended weeks under the PUA program have now been rolled out and individuals will be notified via email when the additional weeks have been added to their accounts. In order to ensure expanded eligibility, three classifications have been added for PUA claimants when applying (and eventually self-certifying) for benefits. Claimants must select one of the three reasons above when they apply for PUA benefits:

  • Those previously receiving traditional unemployment benefits who refuse to return to work or refuse an offer of work because the workplace is not in compliance with local, state, or national health and safety standards directly related to COVID-19.
  • Those who provide services to an educational institution or educational service agency and are fully or partially unemployed as a direct result of COVID-19.
  • Those who are laid off or had their work hours reduced as a direct result of COVID-19.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)

The extended weeks to week ending September 4th, 2021 have now been implemented and available to eligible claimants.

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)

FPUC provides an additional $300 weekly benefit and is now being provided (until week ending September 4th, 2021) to those receiving traditional unemployment benefits, PEUC, and PUA.

Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation

The Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) program provides a supplemental benefit of $100 per week and has been extended through to September 4th, 2021. Ohioans who are eligible for this benefit will receive payments retroactively. Only manual applications are available now for this program while programming is underway to automate this program extension. As of March 11, ODJFS had notified all potentially eligible individuals by their correspondence preference (mail or email) to submit applications by email.

Other Extensions implemented as part of ARPA bill

  • Extends full federal funding for Ohio’s SharedWork program.
  • Authorizes 75% credits to reimbursing employers for traditional unemployment benefit charges.
  • Authorizes full federal funding of the first week of traditional unemployment benefits, instead of 50%.
  • Extends the waiver of interest to states whose Unemployment Insurance Trust Funds require federal borrowing.

Despite the above, several claimants are still experiencing issues with getting paid as you can see in the comments forum below this article. The ODJFS is working through issues and I will post potential responses and updates as they are released so stay tuned via the options below.

2021 Unemployment Program Extensions Under COVID Relief Bill

The $900 billion COVID-19 relief package was passed into law on Dec. 27, 2020, which among several other pandemic relief measures extends and provides additional federal funding for enhanced unemployment benefits. This includes the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) and a reinstatement, but halving of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) Program which provides a $300 supplemental weekly unemployment payment.

These programs have been funded and extended for 11 weeks (on top of any state funded extensions), covering the weeks of December 26th, 2020 to March 14th, 2021. There is a four week phase out to April 10th, 2021 for PUA and PEUC claimant with remaining weeks after March 14th. To receive the weekly $300 FPUC benefits (maximum 11 weeks), you must be receiving at least $1 of regular UI, PEUC, EB, or PUA.

Ohio Unemployment – 2021 Extensions Payment Update on PUA, PEUC and $300 FPUC

[Updated February 11th]: The OJFS has provided new updates on the extended enhanced UI programs as follows. They are running later than originally planned for paying out the extended weeks of benefits to ALL Ohioans.

Those with active benefits under regular UI, EB, PUA (existing 39 weeks with balance remaining) or PEUC (with balance remaining) can continue to file and will are currently getting the extra $300 supplementary payment (effective from week ending January 2nd, 2021).

PUA 11-week Extension Update (Partially implemented): PUA claims can be filed for weeks prior to December 27. Additionally New PUA applications can now be submitted, and most eligible claimants can now access some of the additional 11 weeks. Those who exhausted their original 39 weeks do not need to file a new application or appeal prior determinations to be eligible for the additional 11 weeks of benefits. As additional weeks are programmed and made available to claim/certify, you will receive a notification from OJFS. Final programming for PUA and all 11-weeks is expected to be completed by 2/19/2021.

All PEUC programming is now complete. Eligible individuals will receive all benefits they are owed, retroactive to as early as December 27, 2020. Existing claimants should see the extended 11 weeks on their claim balances and can file claims for those weeks (if not already done) to receive payments. New claimants can also apply for up to 24 weeks of benefits, but must use them by April 10th, 2021.

$300 FPUC Implementation Update: ODJFS is issuing FPUC payments as of 01/16/201 for those with active PUA, PEUC and Regular UI claims and who can certify. Those who had exhausted benefits won’t receive the $300 until they can file claims following system updates described above. All claimants will eventually receive all benefits they are eligible for.

Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation : Once implemented, will provide an additional $100 a week, on top of the $300 FPUC benefit.

PUA and PEUC retroactive back payments: While the 11 weeks extra weeks will be automatically added for most claimants, in some cases you will need to take manual actions to request back pay. Particularly if prior to December 27th, 2020. In this case you need to email/contact OJFS to manually process and pay retroactive benefits.

PUA Documentation Requirements: Under the new CAA legislation that extended benefits new documentation requirements were introduced. As a result claimants should gather documentation to support their employment or self-employment for the tax year prior to when they filed their original claim for benefits. Individuals who filed their original PUA claim in 2020 should gather documentation to support employment in 2019. New PUA applications filed in 2021 should include supportive documentation of employment in 2020. Appropriate documents can include paycheck stubs and tax documents.

I will post additional details as they are released in coming days. So stay tuned for updates.

January 25th update: The additional $300 in federal weekly unemployment benefits approved by Congress could be in the hands of Ohio workers by the third week in January. “We’re working as quickly as possible on that,” Kimberly Hall, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

DOL Guidelines on these programs and final eligibility (including additional document verification procedures to combat Fraud) continue to be implemented by ODJFS. This has historically been an inconsistent process and as a result I am predicting 2 to 5 weeks for these extensions and retroactive payments to be paid out.

UI claimants with existing or expired claim balances should be aware of the following:

  • PUA and PEUC, FPUC will be automatically added to the claimants’ benefits if they are eligible for the weeks outlined in the new legislation.
  • Claimants with weeks remaining in UI should continue to file weekly claims
  • Claimants who will have additional weeks in UI and PUA or PEUC due to state provisions (where applicable) should watch their state agency UI portal or website for updates that will allow additional weeks to be filed.
  • Claimants will be retroactively caught up on payments for all weeks they are eligible.
  • Claimants currently receiving benefits through the Extended Benefits program must finish all weeks of EB before receiving additional weeks of PEUC.

Over summer Ohio’s unemployment system was overloaded with 90,000 claims unprocessed leaving some people waiting over 8-weeks for their first check. In the months since, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) which is responsible for managing unemployment claims is working to catch up, hiring new staff. Now, based on the latest data, Ohio has successfully processed 95% of its claims, and averages a 21-day turn around. Claims taking longer are considered complex and ODJFS is still working to get those processed.

Note – For those still waiting for unemployment back payments In Ohio, all unemployment claims are retroactive from the date you became eligible, delays may happen but will not affect the total amount of your benefit, just the date you will receive your first payment(s).

If you are still having issues with your claim status Ohio has extended its call center hours, hold times have decreased, but are still long. The main call center number is 1-877-644-6562 (M-F 7am to 7pm; Sat: 9am to 5pm; Sun: 9am to 1pm)

Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) Program

The OHJFS has now paid out the $300 weekly payment under the LWA program, which provides supplemental payments to eligible unemployment benefits claimants who have been unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable or unavailable to work due to disruptions caused by COVID-19. OHJFS had processed the majority of LWA payments, including retroactive funds, to eligible claimants by the end of September (see latest LWA state tracker dates). Eligible claimants will have their LWA weekly benefit payment retroactive to the dates they are eligible, for a maximum of 6 weeks.

LWA payment schedule

The ODJFS recently published an updated schedule for the $300 payment which will be done in batches based on the type of unemployment people were getting.

Update for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Claimants:

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claimants began receiving retroactive LWA payments the week of September 14, 2020. For PUA claimants, LWA is being distributed in individual $300 payments (less taxes) over a period of six days through September 21, for all weeks they qualify, up to $1,800.

LWA was able to be provided to PUA claimants more quickly because PUA is administered by a newer cloud-based system, which is much less difficult to program than the legacy system used to deliver traditional unemployment benefits.

Update for Traditional UI, Trade, Shared Work Ohio and Extended-Benefit Claimants:

The system programming necessary to issue LWA payments to remaining claimants has now been completed. Claimants under these unemployment programs will need to verify that they are eligible for LWA. This group of claimants started receiving their payments from September 20th.

Eligible claimants will receive one retroactive LWA payment for all weeks that they qualify, up to $1,800. Note that if you chose for your taxes to be withheld from your weekly unemployment payments, taxes also will be withheld from your LWA payments.

The new Lost Wages program however does cut the federal benefit ($600 FPUC) in half for Ohioans since the state cannot afford to boost the benefit by the additional $100 state contribution requested by Trump.

CARES (COVID-19) Enhanced Benefits in Ohio

Under the CARES act, the following federally funded enhanced unemployment assistance was made available.

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA): expands eligibility for individuals who are typically ineligible for Unemployment benefits, for example, independent contractors, self-employed, and “gig” workers.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC): provides an additional 13 weeks of Unemployment benefits to all recipients. On July 6th, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, announced that an additional 20 weeks of benefits will be available to those individuals who have exhausted their regular unemployment and the 13 weeks of the PEUC

At this time, the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which provided individuals with an additional $600 per week, has ended (however is being reviewed for an extension to year end). However, if your claim eligibility dates between March 29th and July 25th you will receive this benefit.

In many states, the increase in COVID-19 related unemployment has triggered the Extended Benefits (EB) program providing an additional 20 weeks for those who have exhausted all other state and federal benefits. The activation of Extended Benefits (EB) is due to the high unemployment rates in Ohio. As of July 23rd, the ODJFS had received over 1.5 million claims

The unemployment rate, which topped out at 17.6% in April, went down to 13.9% in May and is predicted to drop to 10.9% in June.

Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payment benefit of an additional $600 per week expired on July 25, 2020. The FPUC benefit was applied to all unemployment programs. If you are claiming unemployment benefits for the last week (July 19 – 20, 2020), your next payment will be the final payment that will include the $600 FPUC.

We know that many Ohioans have come to rely on these payments during this difficult time. If action is taken on the federal level to either continue this program or institute a replacement, we will inform you and begin adjusting our systems to process any new payment requirements.

Filing a Claim and FAQs

Regular Unemployment Insurance (UI)

Individuals need to have worked 20 weeks and averaged $269 or more per week during that period. They must be unemployed through no fault of their own. Unemployment claims are retroactive from the date you became eligible, delays may happen but will not affect the total amount of your benefit you receive. You can apply here.

Here are the things you will need:

  • A valid email address and telephone number, your SSA, DOB, and Driver’s License or State ID number, and your 2019 tax return, if filed.
  • Dates for employment for 2019 -2020, name, address and telephone number of employer(s)
  • Dependent information – spouse or children including their SSA and DOB
  • The reason you became unemployed – remember this has to meet the guideline described above.
  • Routing and Account number of your bank for direct deposit

Regular UI lasts up to 26 weeks.

Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation

If your unemployment ends, the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) can extend your UI payments for another 13 weeks. This program is limited, running from April to December 2020. It is available only if you have come to the end of your regular unemployment claim or if you have an expired claim and are still out of work – this program will provide an extension. If your unemployment claim is current, you do not need to apply. If your claim has lapsed, you may be able to file.

If your PEUC ended, the Federal-State Extended Benefits (EB) program kicks in to assist you with up to 20 more weeks of benefits. There is no need to apply if your unemployment claim is current.

If you are not eligible for regular unemployment and are out of work due to COVID-19, you should be eligible for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program.

PUA assists unemployed individuals who are not eligible for regular UI benefits. Their unemployment status must be a direct result of COVID-19. PUA benefits are retroactive, even if you became unemployed as far back as February 2, 2020. Processing is behind; however you will receive the full amount of your benefit.

Examples include:

  • This program assists self-employed individuals, independent contractors, freelance and gig workers, and others who can no longer work, through no fault of their own, due to COVID-19.
  • The individual or a member of their household has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or they are responsible for the care of a family member diagnosed with COVID-19, or they are in quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19
  • The individual has become the primary breadwinner due to the death from COVID-19 or is the primary caregiver for a child who is unable to attend school.
  • The individual cannot get to work because of quarantine, laid off, quit a job, or had a business close due to COVID.

Unlike Ohio’s traditional unemployment program, there is no minimum work requirement for PUA.

You can apply for PUA here: pua.unemployment.ohio.gov

Here are the things you will need:

  • A valid email address and telephone number, your SSA, DOB, and Driver’s License or State ID number, and your 2019 tax return, if filed.
  • Dates for employment for 2019 -2020, name, address and telephone number of employer(s)
  • Dependent information – spouse or children including their SSA and DOB
  • The reason you became unemployed – remember this has to meet the guideline described above.
  • Routing and Account number of your bank for direct deposit

Ohio PUA FAQs:

Do I need to apply for traditional unemployment, get denied, and then apply for PUA?

No – if you meet the eligibility requirements for PUA, you can apply.

If your regular unemployment is under appeal and you meet the PUA requirements, you may apply.

Only if you have a suspension, disqualification, or are serving out penalty weeks for tradition unemployment must you wait for that process to conclude before applying for PUA.

How much money will I receive through the PUA program?

To calculate your weekly benefits, please check Ohio’s Worker’s Guide to Unemployment Insurance. Benefits are retroactive to your date of eligibility as long as that is on or after February 2nd, 2020.

  2. Question? I am receiving PEUC and approved for the new bill which covers me until Sep. 4th BUT my unemployment year end date is May 20th. What happens when I reach my year end date on May 20th? …….Do I file a new claim? ……. Does PEUC continue regardless of the year end date? Thanks in advance.

    • no need to reapply, but do take a look at your correspondence because they’re asking you to upload last years taxes and proof of unemployment, once you do that they’ll reevaluate your claim and you can start claiming weeks again

    • Yep, it is CRAZY!! I have been waiting a YEAR for my back payment, A YEAR! I can never speak to anybody because it is apparently in the adjunct stage, again for a year! Apparently, reaching the adjunct stage in Ohio is like talking to the Queen of England. The funny thing is, literally, nobody can tell how long it will be, how to reach them, if even possible, and now they opened it up again, so imagine ALL the new claims! I feel like the old ones are all going to be falling through the cracks, and NOBODY knows what we should do, but keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Goodness, if I had a dollar for everytime I checked on my back pay, lol, I wouldn’t even need the back pay!!

      • I’m really really sorry, that is terrible. Can I suggest starting a new claim though?? Like I’m dead serious, open another claim. It won’t impact your other one but at least you’ll be able to start collecting the extra 300. At least try, I hope that you do.

      Good luck!

  9. When I exhausted my PEUC benefits in mid December, I received an email from the state telling me that I may qualify for Extended Benefits(EB). I filed a claim for EB and it was accepted. I received 2 payments and after Jan 4 my payments stopped. Yesterday I received an email telling me that I may be eligible for a PEUC extension through March 21(same as my current EB benefits). I went to the website and it told me I was already enrolled. I keep hoping that everything is OKAY but haven’t received any payments and I’m concerned that I’ve somehow put myself in the wrong UI program. Or there is something I need to do in order to clarify my claim with the state. Do you understand what’s going on? I sure don’t.

    • Max this is normal: you filed real late in the game when payments were already set to stop. You should be fine as soon as they have the program up and running. But to be sure, please call and ask for processing. Sometimes it’s as easy as a button push because your claims can stall.

  10. I lost my job back in may and initially filed for regular UI June 5th. I waited until August 28th only to be denied because my employer said I left without just cause. I filed my appeal because that was not how it happened. Since filing, my local school district closed leaving my daughters home to do remote learning and me unable to work. I called every week to check oo un my appeal and to see about being able to apply for the PUA program because I kept being told that I had finds available with UI I needed to claim. The funds they were referring to were from a 2013 claim. So for 10 more week I waited, until I FINALLY got someone on the phone who made it so I could access the PUA system. I filed that application on November 15 and again I am still pending. I am 4 months behind on rent, and 4 eviction notices. I was denied rental assistance on Dec 29 from my local Community Action Partnership and have exhausted the other non profit funding in my area. Now my stimulus payment is lost God knows where because when I use the ‘Get my Payment Tool’ i get locked out everytime. No one can help me with that information request either. I have no idea where to turn to get some answers Everyone I talk to gives me differing and clashing information. The last 6 months have been a nightmare, I have worked since I was 14 so this not working or having an income is way new to me and I am just lost. My girls need all new clothes and shoes, school and not to mention Santa didnt make a visit this year either. I am at the end of my rope and I feel like I keep getting forgotten about. I was always told that If i worked hard to provide for myself and my girls that if I were to ever need help then I wouldn’t have a problem finding it, because that is what these programs are for. To help hard working Americans but I feel like I am running around in circles and I am tired.

    • Lacy please refile for Ohio PUA as soon as your able. You’re going to have to look up articles or search for my post to read because I’ve already answered one persons question and they won’t let me repeat it again for whatever reason. But you will be able to get it, just look for my post.

      • You keep telling people to file a new claim and forget all the money they were screwed out of how does that make sense giving up months and months of back pay for 11 weeks of bullshit pay

        • I’m not saying to forget, and I’m only telling people with specific issues. Continue to work on your claim that’s been set aside by processing but in the meantime get the money you can get NOW.

  11. I filed in November, I honestly am used to my luck not working out so that’s why I didn’t file earlier. I am a low income family live in government housing have 6 year old in school that is doing hybrid learning when school resumes bc of this pandemic, and I have a 3 months old baby girl as well. I’ve been calling and waiting and waiting like everyone else I was told for the longes time I did everything they asked for and now just to wait, but spoke to someone different and they informed me it was an issue with my identity, so I got that fixed and they approved it. So I began waiting again she made it sound like it wouldn’t take long but she said they’re also not allowed to give a time frame either whatever whatever… I’ve been reading so many different things online, not knowing what to believe I’m doubtful I’ll even get it I shouldn’t have waited so long… and here I thought I’d have it before Christmas, now they’re telling me it may be getting held up because I put that I quit my job as a direct result of COVID …. that’s one of the qualifying factors …. I don’t understand .. the lady lady I spoke to told me if the program didn’t get extended then it ends on the 26th I said what about my case and people that have been waiting even longer than I have, will we ever get an answer or we just won’t get it? And she said we still have people waiting from back in June, and I even asked somebody higher up than me and that’s what they said that they won’t be reviewing any more cases after the 26th … and I said well damn I thought it was kinda like a deadline thing like you guys had to get all those people who filed before December 6th an answer before or by the 26th and she said she thought the same thing but that’s not what’s going to happen.

But when I first filed a couple weeks after I had called in a spoke to a girl and I specifically asked her the same thing if the program ends on the 26th will I still be able to get my benefits as long as I qualify and everything that is and she told me yes!! This is what I HATE about call centers bc you speak to so many different people some don’t do they’re jobs right and it causes you trouble, some do and are awesome! Then you got the ones that don’t know their info or what they’re talking about, and the ones that do. But idk who or what to believe I’ve just started getting myself in the mindset I won’t get it …. I’ve been told so many things if they owe you money they HAVE to pay you, I’ve also been thinking they just have to tell us that maybe so the calls will hopefully stop coming in as frequent and they can do what they need to do to get the rest of the people through the system … then I thought maybe they’re just giving certain claimants issues out of nowhere and saying they’re ineligible for whatever reason they can find just so they can deny people and get through the list of overflowing applications … Idk what to do, I have to stay at home for my sons school on the days he has to attend online he’s only 6, not only that my daughter is only 3 months old and I can’t seem to find a daycare that has a spot and will accept any kids right now …. I just want to know what’s going to happen should I give up hope? I need the money just as much as anyone else does, I have a family to take care of too … and it sounds like they’re in no hurry to get the people stimulus checks either…

    • MY SITUATION WAS NOT AS BAD AS YOURS BUT I GOT LAID OFF IN MID MARCH. I ALWAYS FIGURED UNEMPLOYMENT WERE FOR THOSE THAT REALLY NEED IT AND SINCE I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFOR FINDING A JOB I WAITED AND LIVED OFF OF MY SAVINGS. MY SAVINGS RAN OUT MID AUGUST AND STILL NO JOB SO FINALLY I FILED FOR UNEMPLOYMENT IN MID AUGUST GOT APPROVED AND STARTED GETTING PAID MID SEPTEBER. BUT EVERYONE WAS AT THAT TIME JUST FINISHED GETTING AN EXTRA 600 A WEEK ON THEIR CHECKS. I WAS TOLD I WASNT ELIGIBLE FOR THAT CAUSE I DIDNT FILE UNTIL AFTER THAT BENEFIT WAS OVER ALTHOUGH I WAS UNEMPLOYED. THEN EVERYONE WAS GETTING THE EXTRA 300 A WEEK BUT I NEVER DID.I CALLED AND CALLED LOOKING FOR ANSWERS AS TO WHY NOT AND FINALLY A WOMAN TOLD ME THAT IT LOOKED LIKE I WASNT ELIGIBLE FOR THE EXTRA 300 A WEEK BECAUSE I HAD TO SERVE 3 PENALTY WEEKS FROM 17 YEARS AGO IN 2003 THAT I DONT EVEN REMEBER. THE LADY TOLD ME AFTER I SERVED THOSE 3 WEEKS THAT BENEFIT WOULD BE OVER WHICH WAS WHY SHE SAID I WOULDNT GET IT. NONE OF THIS WAT SETTING RIGHT TO ME SO I CALLED A FEW MORE TIMES TALKED TO DIFFERENT PEOPLEAND ALL HAD DIFFERENT ANSWERS. I TOLD EACH ONE I FELT THESE BENEFITS WERE BEING KEPT FROM ME AND FINALLY A LADY ASKED ME IF I WOULD LIKE TO FILE FOR BACKPAY. I WAS LIKE HUH? SHE SAID IF I FELT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT SHE COULD PUT MY NAME DOWN TO HAVE MY CASE REALLY LOOKED OUT FOR ERRORS AND POSSIBLE BACKPAY. OK SIGN ME UP PLEASE. SHE WARNED ME THAT BACKPAY WAS REALLY BACKED UP BUT SOMEONE FROM THAT DEPARTMENT WOULD CALL ME IN ABOUT A MONTH. OK I CAN DEAL WITH THAT THANK YOU. THAT WAS LATE SEPTEMBER.END OF THE YEAR KEPT GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER AND SHIT THEY ARE JUST STALLING TILL ENED OF THE YEAR AND POOF BENEFITS WOULD BE GONE. SO WHAT I ENDED UP DOING WASLAST WEEK I WAS ALL OVER LEGAL AID SENDING EMAILS AS FAR AS WHAT CAN I DO.. A DAY AFTER I SENT THE EMAILS A LAWYER EMAILED AND CALLED ME WANTED TO KNOW SPECIFICS AND AFTER I TOLD HIM HE WAS INSISTENT THAT I ALLOW HIM TO LOOK INTO THIS ON A CONTIGENCY BASIS AND SENDS ME A CONTRACT TO SIGN. THAT WAS THIS PAST MONDAY.WELL WE EMAILED BACK AND FORTH TUESDAY ABOUT THIS CONTRACT HE HAD TO HAVE BEFORE HE COULD DO ANYTHING. BUT I USED TUESDAY TO WEIGH MY OPTIONS. WEDNESDAY COMES AROUND AND I WILL BE DAMNED GOT A PHONE CALL FROM UNEMPLOYMENT THEY JUST GOT TO MY CASE WAS I STILL WANTING TO SEE ABOUT BACKPAT. I SAID YES SO WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY WHICH WAS YESTERDAY UNEMPLOYMENT CALLS ME MY ENTIRE FILE THERE WAS F.U.B.A.R SO THE JUST REDONE THE ENTIRE UNEMPLOYMENT CASE FROM THE BEGINNING EXCEPT INSTEAD OF STARTING IT IN SEPTEMBER WHEN I FILED THEY WENT ALL THE WAY BACK TO MID MARCH WHEN I GOT LAYED OFF. THE LADY TOLD ME YESTERDAY THAT SHE JUST HAS A COUPLE MORE THINGS TO RESOLVE BUT I SHOULD EXPECT A LUMP SUM ON MY CARD NO LATER THAN JAN 21ST. SHE IS CALLING ME BACK TODAY LET ME KNOW WHATEVER IT WAS SHE NEEDED TO FIND OUT. BUT SHE WASNT ALLOWED TO TELL ME WHAT IND OF PAYMENT I WOULD BE GETTING BUT I FIGURED SINCE I GAVEUP ON THIS MONTHS AGO AND AND ME GETTING AHOLD OF A UNEMPLOYMENT LAWYER WAS JUST A LAST DITCH EFFORT ON MY PART. SO FIGURED MONTHS AGO I GOT SCREWED AND NOW SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT A LUMP PAYMENT IN 3 WEEKS OR LESS: OK YEA WHATEVERI WILL HOLD MY BREATH. BUT I GUESS I AM GETTING SOMETHING BACK LIKE 21 WEEKS. ADN BELIEVE IT OR NOT MY LAWYER HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THEY DIDNT KNOW ABOUT HIM AND I NEVER SIGNED THE CONTRACT SO HE NEVER STARTED, BUT YES 2 DAYS AFTER TALKING TO HIM WAS WHEN I GOT THE CALL FROM THEM. I THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS PRANK CALLIN ME. GUESS I JUST LUCKED OUT

        • You keep telling people to file a new claim and forget all the money they were screwed out of how does that make sense giving up months and months of back pay for 11 weeks of bullshit pay

I have had to turn in my car, I am behind in all of my bills and I have 3 children and it’s Christmas time. They seem to not care at all and keep saying all they can do is send in another request. I’ve sent in close to 6.

    • I believe that it was in this vlog that they said to send in an email to the [email protected], but only to send one email because each email you send after your first one just puts you back at the end of the line and they start all over with your request. That was my understanding of what I read so I wouldn’t recommend sending any more emails. Maybe I misinterpreted it but that is what I remember reading.

SO I WENT AND SENT A FEW EMAILS TO DIFFERENT LEGAL AIDS AND THE DAY AFTER I SENT THE EMAILS A LAWYER CALLED ME AND ILL BE DAMN THE NEXT 2 DAYS UNEMPLOYMENT CALLED ME WORKING ON MY BACKPAY. AND TODAY SHOULD BE THE LAST CALL TO FINALISE. I DIDNT EVEN NEED THE THE LAWYER AND THEY DIDNT EVEN KNOW I WAS GETTING ONE. THAT PART JUST WORKED OUT. BUT I WAS TOLD YESTERDAY THAT SOMETIME IN THE NEXT 21 DAYS TO SEE ABOUT 21 WEEKS ON MY CARD DEPOSITED. SO THEY ARE TRYING BUT MAYBE A UNEMPLOYMENT LAWYER COULD GET THINGS ROLLING BETTER FOR YOU? ITS ON A CONTIGENCY BASIS SO WHY NOT?

    • I have the same problem, I filed for the PUA on 09/12/2020 and it would only let me back date it till 08/30/2020 when I really became unemployed on 05/27/2020. I’ve called in many times and was told each time that I had to email the PUA technical department and was given the email, I emailed them with the info they told me to put in it and have yet to hear anything back from them or have it changed. I sent that email a little over two months ago, so I emailed our state senator of my district and they emailed me back saying that they were really busy but that they sent an email to then explaining the situation and that it needed to be fixed and still have not heard anything at all. I emailed the senator about a month ns half ago. I got a email last night stating that the PUA would end on 12/12/2020 and that kinda made me worry a little because lately when I call in and explain everything to them they keep telling me since it has been that long since I emailed that that I should be getting it fixed around mid December, but all I can think of that is going to happen when that date comes is PUA will end and I’ll never hear anything again about changing the effective date and getting the back pay I’m owed. So once again I sent another email to the technical department and I messaged two of ohio’s state senator’s in hope that something will happen before 12/12 but I doubt anything will change giving that it’s already 12/05. I’ve read so many post from different people on reddit saying that they are all having the same problem and no one is fixing anything for them and that they are all just being told to email the tech department, people have been making post about this kind of situation for months now. I’m happy to see in not the only one and it gives me a little hope that emailing the technical department might be the right way to get it fixed and that they might just be that backed up, at least I like to think that right now.

Now we’re 3 weeks away from Christmas and also there ending these benefits on the 26 th unless the government does another bill which is looking like it’s not going to happen and like you I feel like I’m getting the run around and probably be screwed over out of the money I and so many others like me are entitled to receiving it’s very stressful that I am getting the run around from these people and everyone I talk to is just passing me off to the next person and none of them are giving me any help at all it’s not right and it needs to be fixed !

  21. Been thinking long and hard about this pua! I have been patient I’ve been very understanding I’ve been sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting!
I started this process on 4-19-20, I didn’t get in the PUA system until July 13 2020. Now after fighting the fraud, I got a deposit 8-5-2020, and was told this could have been a error or a mistake! So many people got there money but was still having a pending issue. Now I’m so scared to touch the money because people are getting hit with this letter of paying it back!
I also was told i never should of got my back pay if my PUA wasn’t approved yet!
Now i sitting on this money don’t know what to do because adjudication people will not look into pua!

I’ve been telling them, how long do I have to wait. I started this in April and it’s October! I’m still pending!
About to give up and just use that money they gave me in August! When your trying to do the right thing and still can’t get nothing, no help but the moment i use it thats when there coming at with that letter!!!
Maybe it’s time to walk away from PUA. This has been the worst blunder in American history!‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

WELL THESE LAST 2 DAYS OVER THE PHONE THEY STARTED MY CLAIM AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING BECAUSE THEY SAID MY FILE WAS A MESS. BUT INSTEAD OF SEPTEMBER WHEN I FILED THEY WENT ALL THE WAY BACK TO MID MARCH SO WAS TOLD YESTERDAY TO BE LOOKING ON MY CARD FOR AROUND 21 EXTRA WEEKS WITHEN THE NEXT 21 DAYS. SO PATIENCE PEOPLE THEY ARE TRYING. AND LAST THOUGHT TO CONSIDER. TALKING TO LEGAL AID IS FREE AND STAYS FREE UNLESS THEY WIN.

  30. So according to the Ohio department of job and family service.. Update for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Claimants:
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claimants began receiving retroactive LWA payments the week of September 16, 2020. For PUA claimants, LWA is being distributed in individual $300 payments (less taxes) over a period of six days through September 21, for all weeks they qualify, up to $1,800.
Update for Traditional Unemployment, Trade, SharedWorkOhio and Extended-Benefit Claimants:
We are diligently working to implement the system programming necessary to issue LWA payments. We expect this work to be complete in mid- to late September. When it is complete, we will post instructions here stating the steps you must take to certify that you are eligible for LWA benefits.
LWA was able to be provided to PUA claimants more quickly because PUA is administered by a newer cloud-based system, which is much less difficult to program than the legacy system used to deliver traditional unemployment benefits.
Eligible claimants will receive one retroactive LWA payment for all weeks that they qualify, up to $1,800. Note that if you chose for your taxes to be withheld from your weekly unemployment payments, taxes also will be withheld from your LWA payments.
Please continue to check this web page for updates.

  32. I am on pua and have not seen any emails or payment history updates for weeks files aug 1 through sept 5 for 300 lwa so i am confused as to why i have no notice or payment updates for it and i been on pua since then

  33. Im in ohio on pua. In the payments tab on the PUA website I have new payments on 9/15, 9/16, 9/17 each for 300$.

The first $300 or 270$ after taxes was deposited and cleared in my bank account today 9/17. As it usually takes 2 days from the paid status in the website to actually clear my bank account I’m assuming that tomorrow and the day after i will see the next payments. Will update as it occurs.
Still nothing about my back pay or reply to my emails. I did have a missed call this morning from a 812 area code no voicemail so maybe?

  34. Has anyone actually recieved their back pay after emailing [email protected] yet? When you call they tell you to email but it seems no one is getting responses and I’ve seen nothing stating it actually happens?

(I was unemployed march 15 but didn’t start receiving pua until beginning of July. )

      • When I finally got through to talk to someone on the phone at the PUA call service center they gave me the email address [email protected] and said to email them with an explanation of the claim, claim id, social security and name. I’m guessing because on the website account my claim start date needs to be changed.

    • I received my back pay in two days after emailing this email address right here I use seven different emails to contact them and this is the one that answered back within 2 days and updated my status the very same night when they updated the system and I was able to file all my back weeks [email protected]

Hi James, I’m happy to hear you recieved your backpayments. Were you filling with regular UI or PUA? Could I ask what other email address you sent your messages to and did you include any other pertinent information in your email? I’ve tried calling and emailing but nothing so far and it’s been months. Thanks in advance!

  39. If you are on pua, check on payment history it has a new entry . mine is showing that the payment for the 300 is on the 16th. really its 270 if you have it setup to take taxes out already

    • Mine too, but twice ivr called about my original bsckpay, which ivr not even received recognition to my email, but i inquired about the $300, just today, and was told that ohio has not been approved from the federal level yet, and funds have not been released, and i asked bout the extra entry, and she denied it altogether, even told her i screenshotted it. She refused to acknowledge it being there. I WAS LOOKING AT THE PAGE WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH HER, look again, mine shows a 2nd entry today, both say they have been paid, but ive not received anything more than my regular payment

  40. I really want to know just where are any of you getting your information on these dates 9/21/20 and of course it’s all retroactive from 8/1/20 so that’s 4wks for august and the first two weeks in September that’s where the $1800 comes in too play.

        • I called odjfs said if your on unemployment or the extended unemployment.you DO NOT have to certify..and as long as you were on unemployment in aug.you will get your LWA. Hope this helps

        • Yes thank you. I just dont understand why only pua people are the only ones receiving info and not anybody on reg ui. Since i know your in ohio and getting regular ui can i ask if you had to refile for the extra weeks when your ui ran out or did they automatically enroll you? If not did they at least email you? I only have 1 week left of reg ui benefits.

        • Yes, I had to file for the EUC..when my balance went to zero.its on the to of the main webpage ..think it says information about federal FEDERAL extended benefits. And about the LWA.the rep.at odjfs said the they are releasing it WED. THURS. & FRI(hints the “batch” payment..the rest will be posted th 21st.

    • If you’re getting reg. UI….the state will notify you via their website so you can certify that you’re unemployed partially due to C19 and then you should get one big check…..this will be sometime the end of September, hopefully.

        • Is there a certification form we have to fill out to get the 300? Did you get any answers regarding this?

        • I just talked to someone on unemployment. She said they started processing on Monday and for whatever reason it takes 3 daysfor the process. She said people will start receiving money tomorrow depending on your bank. And there is no certification needed as long as you recieved unemployment between Aug 1st and September 5the you will get it.

    • I just now did it was one question… Are you unemployed or partially because of Covid 19? I clicked yes then submit…it was under the pymt portal where it says claim details there’s the three parts now, view claim, View overpymt & to (self certify in red). It’s on ohio’s reg ui then u log in…idk how long it will take to get it but will let u know

        • No i mean now it says fac next to the weeks i already been paid and only added to the 6 weeks owed for the 300. The fac stopped being on there when the 600 stopped back at the end of july. It didnt say fac for 8/1/20 or the other 5 weeks past it until after i self certified last night. Now it does so idk just have to wait until monday when banks are open to see.

    • Yes! I’m in Columbus Ohio I’m on regular unemployment and I just filed my claim yesterday login on the unemployment website as if you would when you file your weekly claim or bi-weekly claim whichever you are there will be a red message at the top that tells you what to do and you will go down to your claim history and there should be a new tab there that’s where you answer the question that asks if you are unemployed or partially unemployed before or on August 1st or something like that but yep I filed mine yesterday morning no pending payment or anything yet though I always file on Sunday and get it Monday for some reason it’s been like that for months now but if I hear anything I’ll let you guys know. But yes the claim is available now for lwa payment for regular unemployment.!!!!!!

I am a self employed worker, and i have been receiving the pua, but my unemployment date is February 15, but pua is dated May 10, may 14 is my file date, and after all this time, i was able to reach pua by phone, now 3 weeks later, i have emailed, and staff have emailed about my original back date for payment, and from what i was told the emails remain unopened. Im going to soon be living in my car, and nobody is willing to tell me anything further.

      • I’m in Ohio, my daughter gets PUA she receives hers every Tuesday Morning. It updates between 8-10 Sunday night. As of 10:23pm the $300 is not showing, so it may be another week for her if it only pays out 1 time a week. Just and update.

        • Thanks CH. Pushed Ohio out a week to Sep 21st (week of) in LWA state tracker as no recent updates on payment date and likely now to happen towards the end of the month. Hopefully its done as one retroactive payment.

        • They said Sept 21st 2020 is the release date for ohio eligible claimants altho they say alot due to situations i been monitoring release date as of now sept 21st

        • On PUA, and received first $300 payment today. In my payment history there is another $300 payment dated for today which I should receive tomorrow. The $300 payments I’ve seen so far are showing under August 1st, and August 8th. Hopefully this helps, I have no idea if they intend on paying daily until caught up or not.
