The IRS has announced that it is now processing tax returns for all taxpayers, including those who filed a return including those who claimed the EITC/ACTC. Unlike prior years, processing seems to be much smoother this year.
The number of returns processed by the I.R.S. was down about 10 percent from a year earlier, according to statistics provided by the agency. The average refund amount is also likely to be much lower this year.
The agency has however stressed that taxpayers should not expect refunds to be available in bank accounts or on debit cards until late February for those with EITC/ACTC credits, due to PATH act limitations.

Those who had dates of 22nd, most got their refund deposited on Friday. I was one of them. Those on the 23rd are the ones that will get theirs on Tues/Wed. The banks have the funds already; they just aren’t releasing until starting midnight tonight up until Wed. Think about it, if it only takes let’s just say 24/48 hours for the banks to get the refunds from the treasury…then those that went out on the 15-16…reached the banks in time for Friday releases. Those on 17-18 will release on Tues./Wed. It is the bank that are holding those refunds until after the holiday…IRS warned the delay are with the BANKS, not the Treasury or them.
The IRS had this strategy planned long time ago when they started that PATH law…they knew how they was going to roll out the releases…Treasury Dept. has the capabilities to release without being Opened.
My mom/dad gets SS and their checks are released (5) days and their bank hold it in “pending” status until the date on the check…the same thing for Refunds…some banks don’t hold (depends) on your bank policy. My credit union don’t hold. Don’t be fooled…technology allows anything to process in real time…electronically means just that…real time….just like an email can come from me to you….within minutes.
Oh by the way everyone take a look at your WMR up until you actually get your refund. I have read where some have posted that Sat they had DDD, then Sunday it changed back to ..”we are processing your return…and this weekend that got a ltr 4883 (id verification) or 4464c, and letters asking to fax 1095 health form…varies issues…their DDD was pulled and placed back on hold….
So, don’t spend that money until you actually have it in your bank account/hands…IRS is pulling a lot of tricks this year…
I know everyone may have the same question, so instead of trying to reply to everyone individually, there is nothing you can do from now until Saturday but pray you are one of the lucky ones that will get an update and DDD or 846 on your transcript between now and the 18th.
I HIGHLY recommend you call all day today and speak to as many IRS rep you need to if you got questions or concerned there may be an issues, hold or review that may delay you further..
It only takes 10-15 minutes to get thru this line…(800) 829-0582 ext. 652. Just tell them you got a code on the WMR this morning saying you were instructed to call; but you don’t recall what the code was and you are not at a computer to log in…do I have a letter being mailed or do I need to verify my ID or something? This is a sure way to get them to call up your return to take a look…
If they say just the WMR by the 18th this is a “secret” code for – You will be seeing DDD on or before that day on the WMR…you can get them to but you have to be very persuasive and persistent which take a lot of work…lol. Heck I was worn out after that call…smh. But it was well worth the answer I got at the end. :-).
HINT: Make you your message on the WMR does not say “processing”…but instead “processed”…there is a huge difference…”processing” mean something is still going on and you are not fully done…the other YOU ARE.
The reason for the different wording is for those who did not get the PATH message in the first place; and who still have we are still processing your return and a date will be available….(This is how they can tell them apart).
[Update Feb 14th] The IRS has confirmed to several readers that seeing the “PATH” message in WMR is a good thing. It means the IRS has reviewed your return and is now holding on processing until Feb 15 as required by law. You should start seeing updates to your WMR status and a Direct Deposit Date (DDD) from Feb 15th or 16th (since WMR updates overnight).
Sharon I spoke with IRS on today, if you claim EIC they should start releasing payments on Wednesday Also IRS will be working Saturday & Monday. So hopefully we all should be relieved by the weekend. Special Thanks to Author Andy for this special page!!
Jazzy …You get a FULL PAGE PATH message, starting check back for a personal DDD date after the 15th. Everyone got the 152 path message where you click on the Code 152 to read. The other one…pops up after the bars disappears…. I think people are getting confused about the (2) path message, that’s all…IRS WEBSITE NEWS:
PATH Act Tax Related Provisions delaying EITC and ACTC
The Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act (the PATH Act), mandates that the IRS not issue a refund on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit until Feb. 15. The additional time helps the IRS stop fraudulent refunds from being issued to identity thieves and fraudulent claims with fabricated wages and withholdings.
Jennifer says in a comment on the IRS refund schedule, “My return was accepted on the 17th. I received an email early Tuesday morning and checked and it was. So I guess some were actually accepted before the 23rd. I do get eitc but not actc.” Gerri on the same article says, “My return was accepted. I find it odd that turbo tax is already giving me a date range. I thought the irs was delaying EIC returns. If that’s the case, how is it possible that Turbo tax has a date for me already. I am hoping that since I filed so so early this year, that maybe the irs is processing some returns to test the system out. Maybe some of us that claim the EIC will not get delayed. Hmmmm….wishful thinking I suppose!”

Christine – Mine was accepted by the IRS (not H&R Block which I used because my husband is Military) today on the 18th. We have always claimed EIC, so I am hoping ours doesn’t get held. Not because I have pressing issues or bills to be paid.Amanda – My return was accepted by the IRS. I too claim EIC. I spoke to a tax expert and was told they are not holding all EIC returns. So what is going on?
This is definitely creating some confusion for readers. But the answer is simple. The IRS was clear that processing would not start till Jan 23rd. But they will clearly accept earlier. Receiving/Accepting your return vs approving/processing your refund is two different things.
To see this more clearly look the official IRS Where’s My Refund tool process diagram which shows the following sequence of how they accept. process and pay out refunds. You can see that when a refund is received (or accepted) it means that it is in queue for processing. But it does not mean it is approved and/or a refund is ready to be paid.
The three status’ in the official IRS WMR tool are (1) Return Received (sometimes = return accepted), (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent. Sometimes if you are using popular online tax filing tools like TurboTax or H&R block, you may see them showing refund approved. but that is the status in their system or based on an IRS refund payment estimate they have derived from past years. You need to go to the official IRS WMR tool page to see the personalized IRS processing status and refund information/date.

Thank you after finding this page and following your suggestions I was able to see a code of 846 yesterday and woke up to a DDD of Feb 22 I just hope that it gets put in my bank today or tomorrow I called my bank and they said that they do not see any DD on my account

Just spoke with a nice gentleman at irs. I explained to him that i was told that the wmr website was not updating properly and i wanted to make sur everything was ok with my return and if possible could he tell me if i have a ddd. He told me about path and they are holding refunds later than usual because of it. He said there are no problems with my refund and he gave me my date of 2/23. Thank you Jesus!!!!

No, wait until in the morning and see if you get a DDD, if not, then I would worry and be on the phone with IRS. You filed on the 1-17th accepted by the 20th, then there is no reason you should not make the cut in the morning.
You may have a letter on its way if you do not get updated. Try to get your transcript online to see if you have codes, if you can’t do that….call them an they should tell you the status…

Justin, have you attempted to call? If not give them until in the morning, if nothing something is wrong. At least they are open Sat and Monday to demand answers. You can call the transcript number and ask the person to look up return and tell you if you have a DDD… 800-908-9946.

Hi Alexusb, you and I are in same situation. I believe if you got fees coming out from TurboTax like I do then it went to Santa Barbara tax product group first and then to you. Alexsub, google Have anyone with Turbo Tax prepaid got their deposit, you should get a lot of resources to click on, usually there is a forum for every IRS topic that fits your specific issue or concerns.
There are great resources to determine a trend in deposits being release.
It’s not turbo tax prepaid it’s a excella prepaid card from check cashing place :( I don’t know what to do
Alexsub, if that is a card that others may have used, try google the name of the card holder or type just in case someone have gotten some insight on deposits.
I don’t have a lot of knowledge of prepaid cards….never used them at all. But if you have a ddd for the 22nd, I would think the would have the refund and release your portion by tomorrow. for sure before the 22nd.
Did you try calling the treasury number – just to see if they will tell you it has been released yet? It may be a long shot but I would try before they closes at 5pm.
On a positive note, I am glad you got a DDD…just hate the slow processing part ugh :-(

If taxpayers receive an IRS Letter 4883C, it’s because the IRS stopped a questionable return. Before calling, taxpayers again must be prepared to validate their ID.
The IRS toll-free telephone lines will be available Saturday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time) and Monday, February 20, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (local time).

Code 846 on transcript with a 3-6-2017 date what is that
abeach, that is the CODE that release your refund and CLOSE YOUR TAX YEAR. The money has left the IRS and Treasury when that code appears on the transcript. It helps balance the books with the debits/credits…
YOU ARE DONE…your money is in transition to the bank…even tho treasury don’t have it now they sent it to the bank electronically submitted.
So it is up to your bank now…to post.

Hey everyone who has not had a change in anything I just called advocate hotline and got the 23rd as my date they will tell you what part is being released and help you get anything that is not being released. I had to switch shifts with one of my other managers to go and handle this you can go to your local office and try to walk in but if they can’t help you they will give you a number to call and I promise you they will tell you what is going on thanks Jazzy I did listen just to let everyone know she knows what she is talking about.

So glad you were able to get results this morning. WTG. All it takes is a lot of effort to demand they let you know if something is holding up your refund. If anyone don’t see an update tomorrow. Then perhaps IRS is needing something and no letter went out.
Twan, they said they sent you a letter and you never received it, and the advocate didn’t see one in the system. See, you guys….it takes a lot of work to get to this real issue to get your refund release within 1-2 weeks after finally finding out if something is wrong…and you never knew it.

Yes it is. Keep checking your bank. It could be anyday. My wmr updated today to refund approved will be sent 22nd. But i got my money last night. Checking your bank is even more important than wmr now for those with dates. If i got my refund and my wmr says 22nd, then that can only mean they are releasing funds now. And its up to your bank. I suggest going into your bank online settings and choose notify me of deposits by text. Most banks have that. That way you know right away.

Congrats, same thing happen to me this morning no WMR update but a code 846 on transcript and a pending deposit. My federal credit union usually release around 11am.

I filed 2/1/17 and was accepted 2/1/2017. It went from the path message to we have received your return and is being processed. Hope to hear something different soon. This is frustrating.

Tonda, don’t get discourage; you will see movement in your bank or transcript. A lot of people are getting results when they call and talk to a REP….
At least tomorrow you will finally know what is going on…and they are open all day and Monday.

Don’t despair. My deposit showed up before my WMR updated. I got it yesterday and my WMR updated with 22nd DDD. If your sure there’s no problems, it is coming.

Update: I did NOT get any movement on the WMR, but I have a pending deposit in my bank account this morning. I checked my Transcript and I have the code 846 Refund Issued 3-6-17.
So, don’t wait on that WMR….check your bank or transcript.

It’s coming today or tomorrow. So, let’s keep thinking and praying for great news for you ok. Call this number and tell them to FAX your transcript because you need it for school…but you need a fax number handy. That way you can see if you have the 846 code. Also, you can ask the person who answer the phone to pull it up for you and tell you if the code is there. If they say “YES” GF, check you ball ALL DAY…it just may POP UP. 800-908-9946. They do faxes.
I’ve been following you guys and today I also got the still processing but on my transcript saw the 846 Refund Issued 3.6.17. But my credit union said they didn’t see anything pending deposit. So who knows.

Most credit union deposit all day; its possible you will see it in the morning. I think IRS scheduled for people to have it by the weekend to spend and boost the economy during this 3 day weekend. Just my theory. Hope it is a correct one.

Worse case, Tuesday…
So I called the number you had listed Jazzy and I got a nice rep. Told her I was checking on a past bill I paid, she looked and told me it was paid. And the good news was I had a DDD of 2.23.17. Hopefully it actually goes in sooner. My credit union did say anything pending for deposit would go in at anytime but they didnt see it and usually they can. Ill keep watching.

talked to a rep said that my refund would be dispersed on 2/23 does anyone know if that means it will be deposited then or if it means the irs will send it that day
If you have direct deposit then the 23rd if you getting a checked mailed about a week
Yesterday i read my refund was being processed, today the site acts like I put in wrong info and is asking me to put in date I filed. I don’t get it. Can someone help?

The system is probably uploading and pushing out updates until Sat. I wouldn’t worry try again in a few minutes it just may b a glitch, because so many people are checking their status..
for those who had path checked this am and it says approved and has a deposit date earlier that the 27 but not by much. So maybe somebody has got things rolling now

What is the best phone number to call to speak with someone at the IRS to get answers? I just spoke with a mean lady who said I owed nothing, but gave me a lot of attitude. Ughhhhhh. Mine is still being processed and I filed on 2/3, approved on the same day and I claimed EIC and child care tax credit. Please help if you have any answers. That’s what we are here for please

This number never failed me and I always got in this early within 10-15 minutes. (800) 829-0582 ext. 652. You have to keep calling until you get a sane REP…some can be RUDE and there is no need for that at all…don’t understand why, if they don’t like there job…LEAVE. Next time ask for a supervisor and report them…
Don’t get discourage ok, you will have your update by tomorrow the latest….heck you might see a pending deposit today…call the transcript line and ask them to pull it up for you and let you know if they see a code 846 or ask if they can fax it because you really need it…l 800-908-9946.

So I got my transcript from the IRS and it states this. Let me know if this means something…. 20170605 Date 02-27-2017
Brown eye, 20170605 cycle codes = Year (2017); Week (6) Feb 5th thru 11th (when you filed/accepted). Day (05) = The day of week up were updated a Thursday (Feb 9th). This makes you weekly filer. You were updated on Friday the 10th can should have been able to access your transcript at that point. Saturday morning the 11th. You would have gotten updated with a DDD for Feb 15th.
Weekly get up dated on the WMR on Saturdays for DDD on Wednesday of the upcoming week. Since the PATH screwed us all up’ the cycle dates were ALL OFF. This is what should have happened in normal processing…
You should no doubt get a DDD in the morning MASSIVE UPDATE for Feb 22nd. Check our bank until it closed. If nothing you most likely we get your refund that Tuesday/Wed the latest.
Are the codes on your transcript 150, 806 (withholding if applicable) 766, 768? The very last code on your transcript to close out the 2017 TAX YEAR will be that 846 Refund Issued: Which mean you refund has been released from the treasury and is on its way to your bank…for processing.
I think you will be a happy camber in the morning with millions of other taxpayers.

Lucy, try ordering your transcript on line…look for the code. If it is there, you should see your money in the bank by this weekend or call them.
Just one more day you guys….and ALL of us will finally have our refunds.

Woohoo!!! Just checked WMR…got a DDD for 2/22/17, thank you Lord! I hope everyone receives their DDD within the next 24 hours as well! Good luck and hopefully the IRS won’t have to follow the PATH Act next year!

Wow awesome, hey check your mail tomorrow. IRS like to have the mailman hold until Saturday’s deliveries to avoid fraudster waiting on your checks to steal. They do this for safety because they feel the taxpayer will be home all day to time and watch for the mail.
For real…when we use to do paper returns. For years, mines always came on a Saturday and the mailman is the who would told me that theory and it made a lot of sense to me…

Ok so as of 3:55 am est the WMR updated me from processed to your refund will be sent to your bank by feburary 22 so keep trying I hope wwe all get ours sooner then that but if anyone has gottenthe same message and gets there refund sooner please let me know

Yes ma’am I have both credits eic and actc. My mom filed her taxes on 2/5 eic no child and hers haven’t even moved yet it still on first stage as received since then. My only setback was my state where I had to verify identity. I pray you get your ddd today.

I figured my federal would have been my hold up since it got pulled for path. Which I didn’t know about cause I haven’t been able to keep up with the info. Was counting on my state so I can pay for my medical appointment and my prescriptions. So when ms sent me letter I rescheduled my appointment for next month so it will fall at least then I would have my federal…. anyways… pretty brown eyes, we all should be getting our dates hopefully by no later than Saturday I hope and pray.
Oh my! That’s what me and my daughter was talking about on hers. She just had my second granddaughter and hers is still saying same message as before because of new life changes IRS is holding or asking for additional information but not catching those that’s stealing identities. A friend of mine still haven’t gotten her last years cause the IRS is saying in their system she is deceased when she has been receiving Ssi. She is still trying to get her refund from her identity being stolen

I chanced upon this site when I was Googling things about this whole EITC thing, which I was affected by too. Thank goodness for y’all not being stingy with info, I was starting to get panicky. I filed on 1/27, accepted 1/28, and I still have the “We have received your tax return and it is being processed.” message that it changed to after the PATH message was out of date. I haven’t gotten any other messages or requests for information or anything like that. That’s… a good sign, right?
I’ve not called the IRS because I have horrible phone anxiety – like, seriously trembling, trying not to cry phone anxiety – but y’all have given me some hope that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Bless y’all, and I’ll keep all my fingers and toes crossed for you all that you get your refunds soon!
Annie, please call them actually that would be great if you did cry and let them know how stressful and how much axniety they are causing you worrying…if they have any empathy they would try their best to understand the position this wait put a lot of us in…and will do everything to help you and provide you the status and the date of your DDD.
If the first rep don’t care, never give up try try again…you will hit the jackpot. I truly feel you will see movement and it will be here by tomorrow.

Well, I didn’t call – the talking-on-the-phone struggle is REAL – but I woke up this morning to that second bar lit up and a date of the 23rd for being sent to my bank! I was hoping I’d get the deposit today on my paycard, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. S’alright, though! Just knowing it’s actually going to be here soon is good enough for me.

If you had the PATH message before he finally got the heck out of our way…you would have gotten the msg “processed”, now it could be saying “processing” because it is updating for tomorrow huge system update. I wouldn’t worry especially if you filed before Feb 5th and did not get a letter or anything…but to be sure I would call, trust me they actually can see your DDD in the system…and it most likely will be in your bank by 3pm or tomorrow before you even see that WMR bar move…99% chance of that..lol.
Here the number (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 try my WMR instructed me to call, don’t recall the code. Tell them hey, I got a hardship please tell me something so I can make arrangements…gf you have to be soooooooooo persuasive and persistent…keep calling until you get one of the Rep to NOT follow protocols…lol.

Per IRS yes a majority will see DDD today and tomorrow. If you haven’t gotten a letter by now, you should be good to go. If you want to ease your mind, please call them NOW and see if you can get a nice rep to actually give you your DDD for tomorrow. Trust me, they have that info today…(800) 829-0582 ext. 652. Just tell them WMR instructed you to call, you can’t remember what it said or the code…

Monee, it most likely mean they are updating and pushing out DDD’s. Check throughout the day, that is a good sign. There is a lot of traffic both on the WMR and Transcript, they have a deadline of tomorrow to release these funds…
At least if nothing happens; you will be able to get them on the phone tomorrow and Monday….but I am going to send some positive vibes your way…that you will have great news by the end of day/morning.

Mine had no bars and said return received and processing. I called them and they lady told me a lot of people won’t know till tommorw cuz that’s when the major update is. But she told me my refund will be sent to my account on feb 23.
I get a error message when trying to look at my downloaded transcript. Say file empty.

Hey so I have been reading these comments for 2 days now I haven’t replied or anything but I have to say thank you jazzy so much you all are very helpfull and my return says its received and is processed and I have to tell you it is so aggrivating just release our money already if anyonehas received it can you please update us it is so tough because I have a 1 month old and it was my wife and my anniversery on the 14th and we would like out money lol but I used liberty tax service and they print the checks in the office on the 14th my state came in and I called them to ask if they knew anything at 6pm and she said I have to look it up I then forgot to ask her about my exact amout so I can us WMR site so I called her up and she said oh your state came in what aggrivates me cuz whywouldnt you call me after you take $390 from me I filed on the 24th and before I start callingthem 2-3 times a day I was trying to see if anyone has gotten there refunds back yet please help but most importent thank you all so much

Don’t worry ok, please if you are able to look at your transcript or call them to ask if they can fax it or tell you the status of your pending refund. If that don’t work, then call them over and over again today until someone gives you the answer you deserve that long awaited DDD. 800-908-9946. (transcript number) IRS (800) 829-0582 ext. 652 try my little (trick) to get a rep to pull it up….WMR instucted you to call, but you don’t recall the code it gave you…

I filed both state and federal and did on feb 7 and both accepted same day. On wmr it had path message and code 152 now it has on feb 16 saying being processing and has my ss filing status and refund amount on left side when should I get my federal I got my state on feb 13

If I filed CTC and path and eitc and actc when should I get my refund it just said processing this morning Feb 16 and I got accepted January 26 but the IRS tax lady said some changes may be made Saturday Feb 18 meaning people who filed those credits should get there’s back sooner then Feb 27 should be feb 22 or 24 or sooner you never know

Wow, you were in the first week, so you should been in the first batches, but it appears they are pushing them out in no systematic order…in the morning if not by end of day hopefully you will see an update on the WMR or DDD.
You can always call to ease your mind and see if you can get a nice rep to tell you the date.

Talked to IRS he looked at my stuff and said basically because so many on path that basically on hold and said keep checking back and it will update grrrrr so little info….. I filed and was accepted on 1/23 and had path act…. Now wmr says they have received it and is being processed!?! Is this good news???

Megz, that is good news and yes it will be updating throughout the day until tomorrow. Transcript updates 24/7 Real Time….so keep check the bank and for that code…
If you really is concerned call IRS back and tell them you got a code instructing you to call…but you don’t recall what the code was because you are not at a computer…
That will force them to look into your return and be able to let you know if there is any pending issues. If not, then you should get a DDD today or tomorrow morning…good luck. ok.
