Retroactive Unemployment Benefits Back or Missing Payments for Expired $300 Weekly FPUC, PUA and PEUC Programs – Claim Weeks Covered

With the expiry of federal enhanced unemployment benefit programs like PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC and $100 MEUC after September 6th 2021 in all states, there have been a lot of questions around what happens with ongoing, new and past payments. You can see the following sections where I discuss these in more detail.

Ongoing and regular weekly payments ended after September 6th (week ending September 11th in most states). This means a cessation of federal pandemic unemployment benefits for 8 million+ jobless or under-employed claimants which that will result in them losing all current and future benefits under the PUA, PEUC or supplementary $300 FPUC programs.

Retroactive Unemployment Benefits

States like New Jersey and California, have already stated that validated retroactive claims after a successful determination or appeal for eligible weeks (when the programs were in effect before September 6th) would be paid out over the next several weeks. Note, per the sections below, that back payments are limited to the program extension coverage periods.

Eligible Claimants should continue to certify for benefits for weeks they are owed unemployment. Any weeks of unemployment that occurred before these programs expire can still be paid retroactively if a claimant is later determined to be eligible for those weeks of benefits. Check your state unemployment website for more details on certifying for retroactive back payments.

Handling of Retroactive Unemployment Benefits

Retroactive benefits (or back pay) is legally required to be made by state unemployment departments for all eligible weeks under the PUA and PEUC programs. Weeks where claimants got at least $1 of unemployment would also qualify them for the extra $300 FPUC program payment.

Biden ARPA Unemployment Benefit Extensions

Congressional leaders and the President have now passed another COVID relief stimulus package into law. The package includes funding for extending the $300 FPUC weekly boost, Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) programs to September 6th, 2021 or the earlier end date some states have chosen to end participation in these federally funded programs.

Eligible claimants who certify under existing programs like regular state UI, PUA, PEUC or EB for the applicable weeks will automatically get the extra $300 FPUC unemployment Claimants who had exhausted their PUA or PEUC benefits and needed to wait for their state unemployment departments to update UI programs will be retroactively caught up for back payments in subsequent weeks – however their may be some manual intervention required in certain cases as discussed below.

Will I get my retroactive or back payments if my states end benefits early?

With many states ending their participation in the federally funded unemployment programs several weeks earlier than the September 6th end date, a lot of claimants who have had delays or issues with their claims getting paid were naturally worried if they would get back payments. The answer is Yes. Because the funds are allocated at a federal level, the state unemployment agencies are obligated to pay any eligible new or existing claim payments prior to the end date of the state’s participation in the program.

States had to provide 30 days notice to the US DOL prior to ending the PUA, PEUC, $300 FPUC programs. This also requires them to ensure retroactive payments are made on claims prior to this notice period. After the state’s termination date no new or active claim payments will be made. Not surprisingly many states are still struggling with large backlogs and fraudulent claims, so it is expected it could take several weeks for some states to make back payments for eligible weeks.

How Far Back Can I Claim the Retroactive Unemployment Benefits?

As discussed in this article, the new $300 FPUC payment for 2021 will only be retroactive to the start date of the new program coverage period in the same manner as previous supplementary UI benefit programs. This means that back payments for the new $300 FPUC are not payable retroactively for any week prior to December 27th, 2020 (under CAA) or March 14th (under Biden ARP extension), even if you were getting PUA and PEUC for the last several months.

Will I get Back Payments Automatically Applied or Manual Claim/Actions Required?

Once states are able to update their IT systems to pay the extended PEUC and PUA benefits (see this video for a discussion of the PUA mess and PEUC rollout challenges) they are automatically adding the extra weeks to eligible claimant accounts. One the claimant claims or certifies for the relevant weeks they should get payment for current and past eligible weeks.

However due to the complexities, unique cases or system limitations some states area asking claimants to take manual actions to get back payments. For example in Pennsylvania (PA), claimants on PEUC are being requested to email the UC Help Desk for backdating retroactive weeks. Similarly in IDES in IL is asking claimants to call their call center representatives to discuss backdating their claims

So essentially if you cannot claim your past weeks online or you have received a current/recent week payment but no back payments for prior eligible weeks or any official notification of delays, then you will likely have to take a manual action via your state UI agency to get your payment.

What about States Ending Pandemic Unemployment Benefits Early?

Several states have already announced they will be ending their participation in the federally funded unemployment programs early (see full list) in a bid to encourage jobless workers to return to the workforce.

In this situation retroactive payments for any eligible claims filed prior to the states pandemic program participation date will continue to be processed and paid. Retroactive benefit payments could occur several weeks after the end date for covered weeks as states update systems to account for the end of these programs and revert back to their traditional unemployment programs/systems.

[September 2020 – Expired Programs] While the $600 FPUC program has now ended (see update below), with no formal extension in place due to a Congressional stalemate, it was been replaced by the Lost Wages Assistance (LWA) unemployment benefits program. You can see this article for details on the now expired temporary LWA $300 weekly payment (some states are making a $400 payment) that President Trump approved in mid-August (using $44bn of FEMA funding) via executive order. Most states have made all payments under this program (full list here) including retroactive payments.

Based on reader comments its clear that some people are still getting or waiting for their $600 FPUC retroactive back payments. That is a different program to one paying the LWA benefits and back payments will continue to be made to eligible claimants. It has however expired for new or continuing claims as of August 1st, so if you lost your job after that time or were expecting the $600 then you would be out of luck. You need to leverage the LWA program and benefit for that.

So if you are still getting at least $100 of benefits under current and enhanced benefit programs (like PUA and PEUC) then you should continue to certify on weekly or bi-weekly basis to receive current and retroactive $300 weekly payments. Both the payments are being administered and paid by state unemployment agencies. So you would need to contact them if you are having issues with these payments. See below and comments section for helpful tips.

Update on $600 FPUC Retroactive Back Payments

All states and territories have now updated their unemployment systems to account for the extra $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payment to those eligible for regular unemployment insurance (UI). While the roll-out and payment of these benefits has been plagued by challenges with some states struggling a lot more than others, millions of Americans have now received their entire extra/stimulus unemployment benefits. As a reminder, the additional $600 weekly payment, including retroactive benefits should occur automatically (unless specified by state unemployment site) for anybody eligible for any amount of state unemployment benefits — even as little as $1. The payments, including retroactive or backdated payments for eligible weeks a claimant has certified, will continue through the end of year, even the program ended for new claimants at the end of July.

The good news is that even though payments have started later the planned, they will be retroactive to when states signed up to receive the federal boost for their unemployment programs. This is generally for the week ending 4/3 in most states. So if you were eligible to receive unemployment compensation from that week then you would be eligible to receive payments from that date. The table below shows when states started making the $600 FPUC payment and when the payments were retroactive to.

Unfortunately many readers have noted issues with these retroactive payments whereby they have not received them at all, even though they had gotten their first $600 payment per state schedules. So while many were expecting a large first payment worth thousands, they ended up getting just their base $600 payment. And when they contact their local state unemployment agencies they cannot get a clear answer and are told just to wait while they clear back logs of new claimants. See more reasons why your $600 payment stopped or was delayed.

Given the delays in getting paid your unemployment checks, many jobless workers may be worried that they could be missing out on payments for the extra weeks they were unemployed. The good is that individuals still waiting on a decision regarding their unemployment eligibility will receive all back weeks of FPUC due to them, even if that decision is made after the end of the current FPUC program in July. They may need to go back and certify for weeks they were eligible (which will vary by state), but they will eventually be made whole for unemployment payments they qualify for.

Backdated Payments with PUA claims

Several readers have asked if the $600 payment will be back dated for those who become eligible for state unemployment benefits under the PUA program. While this is subject to the different timelines of the PUA and FPUC programs, generally speaking if you qualified for the PUA program between early April and the end of July, you would be eligible for FPUC benefits per the dates shown below. This includes backdated payments for weeks you were eligible. In most states backdated PUA and FPUC payments will be paid in one lump-sum one to two weeks after you receive your first payment of eligible state UI benefits.

How to File for Unemployment Benefits Back Payments

Many of the recent comments in this article reflect the challenges with actually being able to claim unemployment back payments for eligible weeks. In particular getting through a live agent or getting a response from your local state agency has been a challenge – which has often meant stress and panic around the status of your unemployment check, and if you will even be getting paid one for current or past weeks.

While it varies by state, the following are the key ways to file and get your retroactive unemployment payments:

  • To claim past weeks or correct dates you will generally have to contact your state UI agency and get them to retroactively certify you for past week. Getting an agent is a challenge, so may agencies are offering secure message as a way to lodge your claim. New York is doing this extensively and people have reported this is more effective than trying to get through to someone.
  • States like Florida have actually setup dedicated phone lines and options (e.g choosing Option 5) to modify the date of unemployment claims or to certify for past weeks. In California, there is a dedicated site to certify for past weeks to confirm your eligibility (retroactive certification).
  • Some states like PA are trying to do more of this online through their unemployment portals/dashboards, and actually are recommending claimants experiencing any errors or issues email (rather than call) their state agency. But response times are still expected to be several days.

Your determination for benefits ad back payments (including under the PUA program) will generally be mailed to you or available on your state agencies online unemployment account or dashboard. This is probably the most up to date place and once approved payments will be made in one lump sum either via direct deposit or debit card

Is my State Processing Unemployment back payments?

The answer is yes. All state UI agencies and departments are processing claims and will backdate your claim to when you first became unemployed, as reported by you when you enter your last day of work. You will need to generally contact them to update your unemployment date if incorrect so that they can correctly pay retroactive benefits. However states like Florida, North Dakota, Arizona and Ohio are still well behind making these retroactive payments due to IT system issues around certifying eligibility for past weeks and taking initial claims for new worker groups (e.g freelancers) eligible for unemployment and the extra $600 under PUA provisions.

  1. Florida : My husband signed up and miraculously after diligently signing in and getting kicked off FINALLY made it to the finish line it only took a few days and it was processed and eligible that very week he received
Back Fl pay of 3 weeks , but only one 600.00 pmt (no retro and none as of this date) everything for the next 2 weeks after went as should until last week he received the 600.00 pmt no state pmt again this week.
On the site it says he can sign back in 05/28 to claim weeks every week there is usually weeks that can be claimed not last week now this message.
Going to wait till tomorrow and see what happens we are thankful that he had received the larger check , but still a little confused as to what is happening with the state

  2. I’ve only received one 600 payment and nothing else. Its been weeks I’m owed over 5000 in retro. I still receive 259 a week. Every time i get a hold of some one they cant help me or give me a direct answer. All the numbers I have been given all lead back to the same recording. Can anyone on here help me or has anyone been going through the same thing? I don’t know if I have to re apply or if having direct deposit helps i have a way2go card. Thanks, Human Being

    • Florida- I recieved 7 weeks of regular UI and one $600 hard check.
Florida has been terribly behind on FPUC, even though the fed has already allotted the funds to them. I heard they were sitting on it as it collected interest for several months.
There is no time table on retroactive pay at this time.

      • Hey Joe, I called Florida Unemployment and I was told that the Feds have not released the funds. Unemployment told me that they are releasing money as they get it from the Feds, no timetable as to when we will get money. I am owed 2 weeks so far.

      • Florida-I’m in a similar situation. I applied way back on 3/22. Nothing happened for weeks. I logged in and checked everyday. then I started to get the 600.00 payments. I got 3 of them and then they stopped. My account says active and eligible. When I check past weeks it says disqualified. I had to spend two days trying to get someone on the phone to figure out what was going on. Come to find out I was over paid years ago. 400.00. Their was a determination that said I had to repay the amount and that it would be taken form my benefits and that I should keep claiming weeks. I’ve done that but nothing has changed. The person I spoke to could only offer this as an answer to my question about what was going on, “hmm, that’s strange.” I was told to just keep waiting. It’s been nearly 3 months, I know the system is strained but this is ridicules.

I check on website they will process claim the date you lost job not the date you filed claim. I don’t know the answer? Thanks for any advise .

  3. Work in NJ, received weekly benefits with no problem. Was receiving the $600 PUA until two weeks ago. Haven’t received it since. It was hitting my bank on Monday morning. Can’t call anyone at NJ UE because the phones are either shut off or if it goes through, all lines are busy. Anyone know what’s going on?

  4. Anyone has been receiving their unemployment and $600 payment, then all of a sudden it stop?? When I log into my account it doesn’t say ineligible or anything. Not sure what happened.
The only thing I can think of that has changed is about a week and a half ago, my job had to lay me off. Before, it was temporary.

    • Yes that has happened to me. I got my first UI check for two weeks but only one week of the $600.00 then I got another random deposit of $600.00 out of know where. I received my second two weeks of UI with no additional payments for the two weeks of $600.00 very frustrating. Can’t get any answers even when you do wait 1 hour on the phone just to hear they can’t give me any information other then they are working on it.

    • Hey, I don’t have much advice but I did apply on 3/29 in FL and ended up being approved on 5/10. I had money in my account on 5/12. It included backpay for the weeks that had passed since I applied. I assumed that I was going to get denied or never processed but it did eventually go through. Don’t give up hope.

  7. Forget the protesting opening up everything it’s time for a march on Washington so Trump can see people are not receiving the relief $$ that was approved AND offered to us gig workers. I almost think they’re attempting to get things opened up so fast so they can say the assistance program is suddenly void or the pot had run dry. Time to protest folks! People here in Ga are so frustrated they’re turning to our local news stations which oddly they call the DOL on the persons behalf and ACTUALLY GET THRU and get answers for the person. Amazing right? Do they have a number for the Labor Dept we don’t have? The media calls suddenly someone is available to answer questions. Nuts!!!

    • The main problem with UI across the country was their antiquated systems. States are literally on the fly revamping their systems as some of them caved from the unprecedented amount of claims filed. In NY the DOL added hundreds of workers to assist with the enormous amount of claims and there are Reps working from home that are now assisting the claims process. In early April it was a jumbled/hot mess but it is actually starting to function now the way it is supposed to. Hang in there and keep bugging your politicians to get off their butts via phone calls and email. Good Luck!

  8. The States must be pocketing this Federal $$! What is happening? Everyone has an entirely different story. I accidentally applied for regular UI too soon before they rolled out the PUA for gig workers. They said you have to be turned down for regular UI first. I was. Then I get a letter stating I’m eligible for 149.00 a week from 2/2 until 12/26/20???? Weird right? My friend, also a gig worker in the same state of Ga here got the same exact letter. We’ve both certified every week since we got that initial email stating to start doing so. Neither one of us working. Fast forward to today she has received nothing. Zilch. I received a DOUBLE payment on 5/6. It was 600 (twice) and 149 (twice) all in the same direct deposit. I was thrilled. I assumed it would be this way every two weeks since that was a double payment. Wouldn’t you? I’m still doing my weekly certifying also. Fast forward to today 5/22 nothing else. Not a dime. She still hasn’t received anything @ all. So here I am wondering did I suddenly get dropped completely? Is it coming eventually since they gave me those dates way back to 2/2 and they’re just running behind? Cannot absolutely cannot count on this. Nothing scarier than that. Nothing. Where is this $$ going???

    Reply
    • Your story sounds is a little similar. I received two payments of $600 and two payments of UI (beginning of May). Fast forward to last week, I only got $600. No UI. This week no $600 or UI. When I log into my account, there hasn’t been any changes or update or anything. I wasn’t dropped that I can see.

      • Hello, I’m in Fl. Maybe someone knows what is happening. I applied for my unemployment on Mar 26th. It shows as eligible redetermined and it shows as active. I received two $600 payments at the same time then one eachfor the next two weeks. Now nothing I haven’t received any UI . I finally last week was able to claim my first weeks. Now I’m not getting anything. Anyone know why this might have happened. Is there a place to see your FPUC payments sent to you? By claiming my weeks last week did that stop the FPUC payments? Do I need to reapply? I’m Confused! SO many questions and can’t get through to get any answers. Thanks for any advice!

        • Yes. I am in Florida as well and had received my state money then the $600 a few days later. It was deposited for 4 weeks every Tuesday. This week I haven’t received it. I have no idea why and I cannot get a hold of anyone to ask what happened.

        • I’m in Florida also and having the same issue. I was approved and receiving the $600 every Tuesday until this week. I thought it might be delayed due to the holiday but can’t get any answers.

        • I am in Florida and also logged on today and saw that I am “Eligible Redetermined”. I call this # 321-754-9289. When you call, you can press I think #1 and they will call you back. I got a call back within an hour. The lady I spoke with on the phone was super nice and told me she had received several calls regarding this new status of Eligible Redetermined just happened June 1st for alot of Floridians. She did tell me that it had to do with one of my previous employers sending or responding with my previous salary pay, but also told me that I was still active and nothing was put on hold as far as my state benefits. She also told me that there is no rhyme or reason as far as the $600 Federal payment being paid or not being paid the same time of the week. Some Floridians state they are now getting the Federal $600 bi weekly so it’s $1200 deposited with the state biweekly. She also told me unfortunately she is not able to tell me when I will get the $600 payment, but I will get paid even if they retro pay me for a few weeks. Florida is probably the worse state in the country as far as getting unemployment it sucks! Also, it says on the website that the Florida Gov has extended you do not have to put in your jobs you applied for until June 15th. DO NOT BELIEVE HIM!! Still put in the jobs you applied for when you claim your weeks to be 100% in compliance no matter what to make sure you get your unemployment payment. I hope this helps you a little bit, I just got the number today and again the lady on the phone was super nice.

  9. In Colorado. Applied April 20, lost job due to covid shut downs March 15 and stated so on application, application was approved , was sent payment twice since then but NO retroactive pua or reg unemployment, missing at least five weeks of pua and we are drowning. Secondly, WHO KNOWS A GOOD TELEPHONE NUMBER AND TIME THAT YOU CAN SPEAK WITH SOMEONE FROM NJDOL? Like…. the Governor, Mayor and all these paid elected officials need to stop pussyfooting with us and keep it real. You try to email and you get an automated email message. You try to call, its always busy and nobody can take a call. I even waited til 830am when they first opened and still got that same stupid ass message “due to extremely high call volume, we cannot take your call at this time”. I feel so sorry for the hundreds of thousands of people who are still waiting for an answer. Its a gotdamn nightmare just to get help! Why can’t the government do SOMETHING right? I pray everyone gets out and VOTES come November. Nothings going to change if we don’t do something!

    • This same thing happened to me, except on my day to claim the system wouldn’t allow me to claim. It kept saying unavailable. I also did not receive my $600 payment. If anyone actually gets theirs please let us know. My bills are due and as we all know you must live on a budget in NJ. I am hoping we get both payments this coming week but with the holiday coming up I think this will get messed up again.

I been filing for unemployment benefits in Alabama since the 03/23/20 and I was approved for PUA Benefits and received one payment for $600 week ending 4/4/20 and I haven’t received anymore since then and for some reason I had been denied for PUA Benefits and eligibility and needed to send out a appeal before the 19th of May and I did send out a appeal . And I just received a letter from PUA Benefits stating I been self certified and been approved for PUA Benefits and would receive all the backpay from week starting 4/4/20 to 07/25/20 for WBA of $114 and a extra $600 every week to and I’m at a stand still because of it and the Alabama Claims Tracker Portal hasn’t updated in over 3 weeks on my behalf and I would appreciate any help to finally get my claim going and updated for the PUA backpayments owed to me

Received one payment on 4/26/20 and a second on 5/6/20. I certify each week with the Department of Labor. Why aren’t payments being made weekly? Why are our public officials and media silent on this matter? Where’s the money?

They retroactively paid the two weeks of UI but not the two weeks of $600 payments I’m missing . Not sure if I need to contact someone about it or who I would even reach out to. I’m kinda hoping they will come on their own but knowing FL I’m sure I will have to work on it.

A “PUA Eligibility” issue has disqualified you indefinitely.
A determination letter was mailed to you on Friday May 01, 2020 explaining why you were denied.
ok so i just see the word disqualified but i also see.. at the bottom..
    What I have been paid:

    Benefit Week Ending 4/11/2020
    WBA $114.00
    Eligible $114.00
    Paid $714.00

then another section i was give FPUC 600 and the 114.00 i continued to file weekly and NOW it says 0.00 across the board. and says

  22. Hello,

I received a payment of $600 on Saturday and received my retro pay from unemployment after waiting 6 long weeks on Monday with one payment of $600. They owe me 4 weeks. Will I be receiving that money or they’re not retro paying us? I live in Florida and I know we are extremely backed up on processing all of the unemployment claims.

    • You said it – they are backed up on processing. It’s a mess, I agree. You’ll just to have till they clear their backlog

    • I’m in a similar situation. My husband applied for regular unemployment on March 15. He didn’t get approved for almost 30 days. The amount was a joke, $73 a week. We got 3 weeks of regular unemployment & one week of the $600. We haven’t gotten a single retroactive payment from the Federal PUA. It’s disgusting & what’s worse is the governor is going to be allowing the courts to start evicting people on June 4th!

  24. Hi everyone!
I have the same issue as many of you. I got unemployment payments twice in a row (state + FPUC). I certified on Fridays usually but then NJ Labor updated their schedule and last time I certified on Sunday. So I got Unemployment payment on Monday (5/11) with FPUC as usual and next day I expected to get payment with FPUC for the previous week but I got just state benefit.
Shortly, I got $600 just twice. I am little confused about that. I live and work in NJ.
Could anyone please explain me what I am supposed to to in order to get it and how i should proceed next and following Sundays?

    • Sounds like Nj is having system issues as hearing that the intermittent payment issue is happening in several states. Just wait to see If this gets fixed or try and get a hold of someone at the agency.

  25. Georgia- I filed Unemployment end of March, received my eligibility letter Beginning of April. I never received funds. I’ve appealed it because I didn’t see my other job on there. So I assume with my appeal that could have made the process longer?! But even if so, I was approved for a lower amount and still never got it. My question now is, now that I think I won the appeal. Once payments start will they pay me the extra $600 in retro payments as of my eligible date back in March? And in one lump sum? Or what to aspect? Is there anything else I should do?

    Reply
    • Yes. You should get it in one lump sump based on what other comments are saying. But it does vary state to state as they may backdate your pay by weeks they review your eligibility. But nothing more for you to do other wait and monitor progress

    • Marley- The answer time your first question about when you expect your $600 FPUC Payment is that you should receive it no later then next Monday since you claimed your weekly NJ unemployment benefits on a Saturday. The answer to your second question to your brothers problem I really have no idea. I have posted on here numerous times about my experiences with NJ unemployment and after starting to receive PUA benefits on May 4th the only problems I had were having to wait until the following Monday to receive my retroactive FPUC payments when there were supposed to be paid out a week earlier. That being said I would advise your brother to continue to claim his benefits each week and (unfortunately) be patient on receiving his benefit payments as the NJ DOL website and press articles seem to be inaccurate and inconsistent with actual real life occurrences. Hope this helps!

I read on the NJWorkers faq page that the,

“Pandemic Unemployment Compensation: provides an additional $600 per week, on top of regular benefits, to all recipients of Unemployment Insurance; retroactive to the week ending April 4, 2020.”

Also that, “The additional $600/week compensation will be issued beginning April 14, for the week of March 30.”

So my question is, Am I owed (missing) a week of PUC? or am I on track? TIA

    • Photog- According yo what your saying.. i.e. that you received your first UI benefits on April 1st and then your first $600 FPUC payment on the 13th of April it does seem like you are owed an additional week of FPUC benefits. Although it depends on the original date you filed your claim. As the FPUC payments are retroactive to the week of March 29th. Hope this helps!

      • Thanks Tyler N, I filed my first claim on March 23rd, my first Unemployment insurance benefit payment was processed on March 28th and deposited April 1st two days later. So, Im not sure if I am owed an extra week or not since it was so close?

        • Photog- No problem glad to help..since it doesn’t seem like NJ DOL is doing much in helping us at all lol. Anyway since you filed your original claim on March 23rd and already received that weeks $600 FPUC payment unfortunately I don’t think you will get an additional retroactive Weekly payment. Since the retroactive payments were issued back to the week ending March 29th and that seems to be the week for which you already received that $600 payment. Mind you I’m not an employee of the State of NJ just going off of my experiences, the experiences of others, and what’s been posted on the website. So my word is not the end all be all but in my opinion I don’t think you will be getting paid an additional week.

  34. I am so glad I found this! I’m from Indiana.. So on Thursday May 7th at 930am I decided to check the website to see what was going on. It finally said I was being paid for 2 claims. Only $75 from my claim ending in March and $675 from my claim ending 4/5 I believe. So I decided to turn on my bank notifications and sure enough it deposited into my account at 12pm that day. SUCH A BLESSING! I only had 3 dollars to my name.. I’m a single father of my 8 month old girl and honestly didn’t know what to do. Now I’m sitting here wondering if I’m going to get anything else because I’m still 5 weeks behind at this point. I was expecting more than that but I’m really praying right now and hopes this situation gets figured out. If anything changes I will keep you guys posted! Best of wishes to everyone! We are all in this together.

I filed 5/10 as my second week and received my pay again the next day 5/11 around noon. I was wondering if we needed to do anything extra to receive the back pay? For Indiana, the backpay states back to 3/29 so I should see 5 missed payments. Lord knows I need it.

The $600 retroactive and weekly payments for claimants on PUA Benefits in the State of NJ come to you a week after you get your regular weekly benefit payment. As of this morning (exactly one week after I got my retroactive unemployment) I got a deposit for $3,000 which is all my retroactive FPUC money along with last weeks $600 FPUC payment. If anyone else in NJ has any questions or comments let me know and I will try and help. I’m just hoping they keep coming as this whole process has been nothing short of a nightmare. And I will be wishing the best for everyone else on here as well.

If that’s the case if you didn’t certify your weekly benefits until Saturday then yes that is most likely why you didn’t receive your $600 FPUC payment yet. I would wait until Monday May 18 to check for the $600 payment..that should be when you will receive it if it’s consistent with my payment.

This week received just my 600. My wife though was getting her reg ui and the pua benefit until this week she didn’t get her pua. Idk if NJ systems are backed up or what.

    • Hi Tyler that’s kind of refreshing to hear because I haven’t heard of anyone getting their retroactive unemployment benefits and their retro pandemic benefits help. I initially unemployed March 18th and my first payment was received on MAY 13th in the amount of my regular unemployment benefits 5 days later I got the extra 600 and then again on May 20th I got my regular unemployment benefits and I expect to get the next 600 on May 25th my question is when can I expect my back payments for both regular unemployment benefits and the extra $600 because I had spoke to an agent in the beginning of May and she had told me the next two weeks I would have everything up-to-date but obviously that hasn’t happened and I have since received two regular UC payments and two unemployment payments but nothing retroactive. For example, a person who applied on 3/15 would only get 10 weeks of FPUC but a person who applied on 4/6 would get 12 weeks of FPUC. Unemployment in Florida is falling apart and those who filed early have been out of work the longest. That extra $1200 is essential to climbing out of the deep hole of debt many of us Floridians have accrued because we’ve waited for 7 to 8 weeks to get any payments at all. Are they punishing early filers by taking away two weeks’ worth of eligibility?

      • Literally same situation. Filed UC March 29 have now received 2 unemployment deposits and zero additional 600 they would now owe me 5 weeks. We need to call Murphy’s office and find out what he plans on doing Bc he just extended another 30 days so he can get the federal money to “help the people” yet it feels like he’s just putting it in his pocket.

Another person commented yesterday that the $600 are made a week after you get your regular unemployment benefits (even though the NJ DOL website states differently) but she seems to be correct. Not sure if you got yours this morning or not.

  46. So let me get this straight. For those who are eligible for Unemployment Benefits ALSO receive the $600 weekly payment. But those who are ineligible do not receive the $600. How is that fair? I work 15 hours a week Part Time in a restaurant. Am I being excluded because I work Part Time? I was denied UI because not one of my quarters could meet the minimum requirement of UI which is $2500 in New York State. I did file a form for PUA. I have not heard if I qualify for the PUA but I did receive a $600 direct deposit on 4/24 and the UI site says I have a valid claim. Now I’m not getting that $600. The President signed a law that provides additional Unemployment Insurance assistance to workers impacted by COVID-19 which provides PUA, PUC and PEUC.

    • IDK about NY but normally UI is for F/T employment. Because of Pandemic ,that is waived. Normally waiting week is not included but that also is waived. I too work P/T of 15 hrs per week in retail , along with my SSDI and I receive UI and PUA ($600 weekly ). Normally you must do a job search ,with so many searches per week…that is waived. My paperwork says no searches required but that may change down the road as things open more with cases going down. I had never applied for UI and it’s certainly a learning experience and a waiting game because of the massive amounts of applicants. Good Luck ! Texan

      • You are saying PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) when you should be saying FPUC (Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation). The FPUC is a temporary emergency increase of $600 per week in unemployment benefits. The PUA is a new temporary federal program that provides up to 39 weeks of unemployment benefits to individuals who are not eligible for regular Unemployment Insurance.
